Weirdest thing about Jiri is that the samurai thing is pretty new

His Wikipedia says he got into fighting via football hooliganism and then from seeing Dekkers highlights and that Never Back Down movie. So seems like he's less of a GSP karate type and more like a cradle MMA guy

Cool that he's now gone down the martial arts route but I do wonder when/why that change occurred

People such as Jiri are intriguing in a way. If he didn't have mma he'd definitely be on a plantation in a cult waiting to be visited by aliens or some Shit. I'm sure Fabia licks his lips when he sees Jiri.

i like Jiri, but id rather see him transform to a more defensively sound fighter, if being a slightly more aggressive wrestler boxer and losing his quirkyness is the way to go, than so be it. much better than seeing him go down the route of tony, bj, or God forbid, Diego Sanchez..

why? are you thinking that he can use some tactics that Jones uses? it's hard for me to see him turning into an outside fighter the way Jones likes to strike. i do think he'd learn some good setups for his spinning elbow though.

Why would he need Dagestan? He was knocked out, not taken down and GnPed or subbed....

Jiri will not improve anymore, his wreckless style is what brought him so far, any attempt to make him more orthodox will lead to him being boring and still getting knocked out.

He should push with his wild and wreckless style until he can go and im sure it will work fine as long as he isnt fighting Poatan.

i mean, it's not that unfortunate. both of those guys went on insane winning streaks and became UFC champions and reached the pinnacle of the sport (well, Interim-pinnacle for Tony lmao).

and this guy hit the nail on the head. NOT pushing his wild and reckless style is what caused him to get KO'd in the 2nd fight vs Poatan. he had more success in the 1st fight simply because he DID push his wild style, sure he got caught but he was winning and doing way better than in the 2nd fight where he tried to kickbox Pereira.
