Burns/Morales PBP/Discussion

You inspired me to do a check on my end...
Up 7.4u myself for this card.
My only loss was the Moises fight, and that was partly because I didn't get home in time to watch it haha.
I've had some great luck on the Hockey front as well. I'm sure my luck is gonna run up soon, but until it does WHEEEEE!!! haha
yeah i never really got to deep into taping Gordon, i thought it was a decision type fight, when i saw someone repost the Paddy fight, it showed how crip Gordon's hooks are, he gave Paddy a good fight on the feet. I had him in my list of tape worthy fighters but flipped when everyone else hammered his line. oh well another day another dime.

down the line. he's likely ranked 8th. there is no one else really i see who's going to derail him. He probably fights Belal next.

And down the line? You think jdm has a chance of holding the belt for that long he probably only fights 1 more time this yr against Islam then if he wins probably Garry or rahkminov so he will have to if defended at least 3 times until he gets a shot and if Buckley beats Usman he's probably also ahead of him in line so earliest I can see him getting a shot is early to mid 2027 and also how every champ wants to move up in weight now for double champ status if JDM has defended it 3 times he would probably be calling for a shot at the 85 title

Ian is likely to fight down the rankings again or across. The only open fight for him is Belal or Leon.

The ufc loves finishers, that's why JDM and Khamzat get rocketed to the top rankings.

UFC like Garry and Morales they will not match them up together

Pretty logical next fight for Morales is winner of Buckley/Usman. The timing will work out okay. Belal is a possibility but he's got some facial fractures that are gonna take awhile to heal.

Not sure if they'd do Garry/Brady as a #1 contender fight?

Doesn't seem ideal to me. If Buckley gets wins over a former champion in Usman in a main event after he just beat former interim champion Covington he shouldn't have to take a step back & fight Morales.

Perhaps for Usman it makes sense though. Although with a win I imagine UFC may stick him in a title fight to cash out what's left of his name value.

Edwards vs Morales makes sense imo. Give Edwards a break from guys trying to grapple him but still a very tough opponent. Welterweight is too backed up at the top with everything that's going on, I think Morales should get 2 more wins to truly prove himself ready for a title shot.

Ehh I don't rate Buckley's win over Colby as worth much, Colby was already washed.

Admittedly though as a bettor I probably don't take rankings into account as much. Like...Leon looked like dogshit two fights in a row. Not saying he's as washed as Burns but Morales would be a big favorite again and probably starch Leon at this point. Maybe it's not fair to dismiss guys coming off a couple losses but imo when you have a division like WW with so many damn legit guys, you don't waste time with someone like Morales vs guys that don't vault him forward. Sometimes you gotta have top contenders just fight each other and knock each other off to see who's really up next.

All these guys in actual momentum toward title shots:
Islam (next obviously)
Shavkat
Brady
Garry
Buckley
Morales

You can't just have these guys not fight each other and knock off guys like Leon or Wonderboy or whoever. It'll take years for them all to get their shot. Again, I admit maybe it's too dismissive of the "old guard" of Belal, Leon, etc. Just too many exciting matchups with the new blood.

Hi guys. Very little betting for me this week.

wins:
Parlay: gomes X Santos X morales X Belato (canceled)
Park ML
Morales R1 KO
Parlay: Morales KO X Belato KO (Canceled)

Losses:
Suddiq ML
Morales sub

I had said on the event thread that Gordon at +210 was a good deal but didn't bet on it. WRONG

Overall a very good night.

Morales is Huuuuge. He has the Jon Jones physique: skinny legs, wide shoulders, long arms... I see him only losing to super High level grapplers, all others lose to him.
I really want to see him face Makachev so that for once Islam will be the smaller guy.

Cashed out on Suddiq at the beginning of R2 and got about 20%. I didn't like the signs of fatigue.
He was probably bulking up for lightweight and being a short notice fight his cardio wasn't there, on the other hand, Santos looked a bit chubbier than usual so he had had an easy weight-cut.

I think I'd do Islam next, with Shavkat Vs Brady for the next number 1 contender fight on the same card. Perhaps Garry Vs Morales, with the winner of that fighting Buckley (if he beats Usman) for the next number 1 contender fight after the winner of Shavkat/Brady.

Belal will be out for a while healing up that lip and there's no other contenders really close after that. Maybe Leon Vs Neal, then you match up the losers from the fights in my previous paragraph to give them chance to rebuild their way to a title shot.

It gives you 3 title shots and clear pathways for the top 6/7, will take about 2 years to do so gives contenders who lose time to bounce back/fill in as late notice backups and chance for people like Leal, Bryan Battle, Rinat, Bonfim, Malott, Chidi and Pirates to try and put together a run that gets them to the point that one or two of them are in contention for a title shot once the current batch of contenders are resolved.

Yes. Exactly this, or at least something similar. Of course you're gonna have Shavkat undefeated possibly claiming "now I gotta win ANOTHER fight"...but it is what it is. You got injured. The division is stacked. If you can't beat Brady, why do you think you deserve the title shot?

But you're clearly of the same mindset as me. The more stacked the top of a division is, the more you have to stop protecting highly ranked newcomers vs the "old guard" and have them fight each other.
