If we're chalking it up to luck, Burns got the shot due to the luck of the draw. He was the third choice. I don't blame him for taking the fight and I would love to see him win. But ultimately he got lucky to be fighting during a pandemic. Hopefully Burns can cash in on this fight win or lose.

And of course there are tons of guys who want or even deserve a Conor payday, but Nate put in the work to stand out among them all so that when the time came he could cash in.

Yes, both nate and Burns got lucky and both are doing their best to take advantage of that. The difference is that Nate was far, far, far ,far, far, far more lucky despite having less impressive wins. There's not a conor mcgregor around out there to bless every deserving fighter with a huge pay check. If there was, then tony, Edgar, Gaethje, and usman all would have got lucky too, considering they put themselves in the positions for that conor fight, too.

Burns got paid a paltry 84k/show base to headline an ESPN card against the immediate former world champion. The media rights deal with ESPN alone is estimated at 350mm-500mm a year, and the UFC absolutely needed to run this card to meet those obligations.

He was only guaranteed his contractual 84k purse to headline a card on ESPN!

Nate all but surely respects Burns and his fellow fighters, he is warning everybody to stop bowing down and getting paid cents on the dollar to make guys worth hundreds of millions of dollars each get richer off your brain damage.

Nate still makes more than Burns and Burns is fighting for an actual title. Thats all Nate was trying to point out. For a marijuana guy, he seems to have a better understanding than most when it comes to the fight game.

But its good to see Burns bring up the RDA fight purse. Nate played by the UFC rules and went on TUF and won his season. He then fought his way through the division, picking up many bonuses for FOTN along the way. When he earned his title shot, he asked to renegotiate his contract and the UFC said no. And thats how he ended up getting such a low payday for that RDA fight.

Dana constantly bashed Nate in the media claiming he wasn't a draw while simultaneously making him headline Fight nights on Fox. Nate always did great numbers.

Dana is such a vindictive bitch that at one point, he pulled Diaz from the rankings altogether after a win and 6 months inactivity.

Nate is trying to warn guys like Burns to stand up for themselves and know their worth because Dana White doesn't give a fuck about you. He cares about his shareholders. And thats it.

Nate's making a point about getting paid their worth, to not accept anything. It has nothing to do with his activity or record, he's talking value.

But Burns is making the right call here. If he'd refuse the title fight Leon or Mas would get it instead. Maybe both. This would lead to Burns fighting another contender (or two) for the same pay he gets now or would be getting for the title shot. He's banking on beating Usman to be the best and to renegotiate his contract, as champs do. Then he'd get paid more anyways.
