Nate put in the work for years to put himself in a position to be a star. There's a reason Conor chose to fight him. And here's the thing. In between the first and second Conor fight, Nate fired his management team and thats why he sat out for three years. They sued him. So while that case was making its way through the courts. any money Nate would have made from fighting would be subject to the courts decision. It was actually a smart business move on Nate's part.Only when the UFC feels like paying him, which is why he barely fights.
Nate can only afford to take these long hiatuses because he agreed to fight Conor on short notice and was able to make a shitload of money off of the subsequent fights and endorsements outside of the cage.
Guys like Burns have never had paydays like that.
It's hypocritical as fuck for him to sit here taking shots at guys who've never made any real money for taking what opportunities are offered to them on short notice, which is exactly how Nate became a star.
And the reason he fired his management company in-between his Conor fights is because they settled on a much lower price for the rematch than what he knew he could get. And he was right. Conor got pulled from UFC 200 for not doing media, which meant the rematch contract was now null and void. Nate renegotiated and got his asking price. He knew the UFC had to make that rematch to get Conor back on track, and he cashed in on it.
Nate was just telling Burns not to fall into the same trap he did. Kind of weird you see that as taking shots.
