News Burns is going after 20-12 marijuana guy hard

Only when the UFC feels like paying him, which is why he barely fights.

Nate can only afford to take these long hiatuses because he agreed to fight Conor on short notice and was able to make a shitload of money off of the subsequent fights and endorsements outside of the cage.

Guys like Burns have never had paydays like that.

It's hypocritical as fuck for him to sit here taking shots at guys who've never made any real money for taking what opportunities are offered to them on short notice, which is exactly how Nate became a star.
Nate put in the work for years to put himself in a position to be a star. There's a reason Conor chose to fight him. And here's the thing. In between the first and second Conor fight, Nate fired his management team and thats why he sat out for three years. They sued him. So while that case was making its way through the courts. any money Nate would have made from fighting would be subject to the courts decision. It was actually a smart business move on Nate's part.

And the reason he fired his management company in-between his Conor fights is because they settled on a much lower price for the rematch than what he knew he could get. And he was right. Conor got pulled from UFC 200 for not doing media, which meant the rematch contract was now null and void. Nate renegotiated and got his asking price. He knew the UFC had to make that rematch to get Conor back on track, and he cashed in on it.

Nate was just telling Burns not to fall into the same trap he did. Kind of weird you see that as taking shots.

They're both right
I'm not sure either is right. It's possible that they being used as pawns and don't realize they are on the same side.

That said, I like trash talk, so Burns gets points. lol

At the end of the day all i care about as a fan is to see fights, what fighters make has no bearing on me.
These are grown ass men and women signing these contracts and getting their brains smashed in, they know what they are getting.

I'm not sure he's even that. He would have to be willing to fight the up and comers to hold that position. But he's been successful. He's put in the work to build a fan base among those who actually spend money to watch fights and as a result has done very well for himself despite his record or stauts.

I know there’s no such thing as luck and he was the right guy at the right place but if a certain chain of events hadn’t played out which were totally unrelated to him he could of likely had a career dwindle into nothing

your giving him way too much credit on his planning and placement

had rda not gotten injured and nobody else being ready and available to take the conor fight - where would his career be ?

The fight prior he took a 29-28 decision from Michael johnson would handled him in the first round and then went full Michael Johnson giving away the fight in the last 2

he made 20k for that fight - the extremely unlikely mcgregor fill in and performance was basically the arch Of his career

Tbf I don't think it's toxic to say Nate was simply in the right place at the right time and most if not all of his subsequent monetary success stems from him accepting a late notice fight. Good on him for making the most of his opportunities but I don't think Nate would have ever been even half the draw he became had he not fought Conor. In that sense it's a bit harsh for him to be potshotting people given it was luck more than anything that he got the Conor fight. If RDA hadn't got injured, and if either of Aldo or Edgar who were both offered the fight before Diaz accepted, it's not a giant leap of faith to claim Nate wouldn't be where he is.
I can see that side of it, no question.

But he's been entertaining me for over a decade, he's won my lifelong admiration tree times over.
Criticism is A ok in my book, but there's a lot of
"he's a dumb pothead that talks funny and lost fights LOL fuck him"
also
And I can't relate to that sentiment is all

If rda didn’t break his foot or if any of the bunch of contenders were ready and willing to step in Nates career would likely be nothing

he did very well for himself but let’s not make it out like this was some master career plan he planned out and executed

respect needs to be given Nick has done a lot for this sport

Burns is screaming out of his Volkswagen bug

Nate still makes more than Burns and Burns is fighting for an actual title. Thats all Nate was trying to point out. For a marijuana guy, he seems to have a better understanding than most when it comes to the fight game.

But its good to see Burns bring up the RDA fight purse. Nate played by the UFC rules and went on TUF and won his season. He then fought his way through the division, picking up many bonuses for FOTN along the way. When he earned his title shot, he asked to renegotiate his contract and the UFC said no. And thats how he ended up getting such a low payday for that RDA fight.

Dana constantly bashed Nate in the media claiming he wasn't a draw while simultaneously making him headline Fight nights on Fox. Nate always did great numbers.

Dana is such a vindictive bitch that at one point, he pulled Diaz from the rankings altogether after a win and 6 months inactivity.

Nate is trying to warn guys like Burns to stand up for themselves and know their worth because Dana White doesn't give a fuck about you. He cares about his shareholders. And thats it.

Does Diaz think he's some huge star/draw? Diaz made 250k against Pettis. I'm sure Burns will make that much against Usman.

Who?

Nate's a draw. No matter how people like to dig up his losses. Sad. As long as there's fighters who fight for peanuts, Dana's unfair system will continue to work. #justbleed I guess...

Burns came out of nowhere and has a title shot after some solid performances. I got no problem with a guy rolling the dice on himself with an opportunity he probably never dreamed would happen. If he wins this next one, which he might not, he puts himself in great position to cash in. Maybe even with a loss he gets taken care of better on the back end.

Yeah imagine every guy asking to renogiate as soon as they reach No1 contender/champion status. Fucking pay me more now. But sadly it wont happen, they screw over thier own kind.

"the extremely unlikely mcgregor fill in and performance..." lol.

Nate set that up with his win over Johnson who, I agree with you, would have won if he didn't lose. Nate made the call out and answered the call when it came in. On 11 days notice. And was the first fighter in the UFC to beat Conor. Who would have won if he didn't lose.

But talk about a certain chain of events...

Burns was the UFC's third choice to fight Usman for the WW title. If Masvidal or Edwards would have taken it, he'd still be in line.

Oh, and Burns biggest win is Woodley, who he only fought because Edwards was stuck in England, and Colby turned it down.

I rooting for him. He's on a great run right now and to get an upset win would be crazy.

Nate would be falling into those same traps right now if it weren't for Conor, regardless of how much he deserved that fight or not. I agree with Nate's general message that fighters need to know their worth, but there's tons of guys who deserve a Conor McGregor payday and couldn't get it. I'm not discrediting the work Nate put in, but ultimately he got lucky that Conor picked him. If Conor didn't pick him, them he'd be on the same situation as everyone else.

Burns vs Diaz would legit be a great matchup, I can see it now Burns gets the title Nate blags a title shot against him just from trash talking and wins the belt for a Welterweight trilogy fight against Conor coming back from retirement ... shiiiit. WAR NATE!

Nate was in the right place at the right time when the UFC was desperate for an opponent. End of story.

Yeah, the guy put in a lot of work training and fighting for his entire adult life, but his rise to prominence was by pure happenstance.

Nate was just telling Burns not to fall into the same trap he did. Kind of weird you see that as taking shots.

What's weird?

He explicitly said that this "wasn't a real title fight" and insinuated that Burns is a scab looking for crumbs.

Yeah, Burns was the back up because the UFC wasn't willing to pay Masivdal his asking price, but Burns' last two wins are better than Masvidal's best wins in the division. Dude is a legit contender.

There's no way in hell that Burns can even attempt to leverage the UFC for more money in this position because he's not well known outside of the hardcore fanbase and the BJJ community. His best bet is to win the title or, at the very least, give Usman a really tough fight and look good in the process.

Diaz's "advice" is horseshit. He's just insulting the dude for taking the most logical step in his position.

If we're chalking it up to luck, Burns got the shot due to the luck of the draw. He was the third choice. I don't blame him for taking the fight and I would love to see him win. But ultimately he got lucky to be fighting during a pandemic. Hopefully Burns can cash in on this fight win or lose.

And of course there are tons of guys who want or even deserve a Conor payday, but Nate put in the work to stand out among them all so that when the time came he could cash in.

If I remember right when Nate headlined a Fox card it got the worst ratings of all time up until then.

That's where the infamous "he's not a needle mover" comment came from.
