He’s still mid, he’s just fighting and struggling against washed up 40 year old dudes to get a little momentum.
I’m telling you this as a dude who told everyone Buckley was a lock for this fight.
This is what happens anytime he fights someone with actual reflexes:
This isn't Colby from 5 years ago who gave prime Usman a good fight, though. His pace has slowed down a lot.He looked better than any fighter has looked against Covington.
He had some discipline and his punches were straighter… His jabs and straights looked great to me.
He could sneak into a title shot if Shavkat is out for an extended period of time. That was his 6th straight win at welterweight and 5 of those are stoppages.
He casually beat the absolute shit out of Colby who will now finally fall down the rankings. Buckley is obviously a top 5 fighter right now.
His build reminds me of Hector Lombard, who also fought at WW and MW. Both are fire plugs--very muscular and hard-hitting, but guys like that usually have limited cardio. I'll be curious to see how Buckley does in the championship rounds. He's never gone over 3 rounds.Crazy thing is he's like 5'2, idk how he fought at 185.
He's good, but beating them 2 at this point of there careers still leaves big questions to be answered. The UFC is doing a good job of keeping the top prospects away from each other in the WW division and having them feed off aging vets.He knocked out an elite striker in wonderboy - although he did lose the first 2 rounds
And now stuffed majority of takedowns from a decent wrestler
I’d say he’s good
Hes earned a top 5 fight - not a title shot
Can't like posts atm but Lombard was exactly who I was thinking of during this fight. I'm grateful for Buckley to get rid of Colby and hope he continues to improve because WW needs it badly but I hesitate to trust him until some significant question marks about his cardio are answered. His defense in the stand-up needs tightening up also because someone with actual striking (i.e. not Colby) might put him out with a counter. Overall, good but not great performance by a fighter who is clearly on the rise but might hit his ceiling soonBuckley looked good against a clearly past-prime Colby. Buckley has never gone more than 3 rounds, though. And he has that heavily-muscled physique like Hector Lombard, who didn't have great cardio after a couple of rounds. I'll be curious how he does if he has to go to the championship rounds against someone like Belal, Shavkat, Garry or Edwards. Especially if he gets held down or against the cage for long periods.
Buckley said he wanted the fight to go into the 4th or 5th to see how he felt in those rounds. I actually believe this in a way.Honestly that is the most annoying thing about this fight to me... Buckley was so comfortable just molly whopping Colby he decided to wrestle with him, to the point of going for mount 'for fun' and then diving back in and going for a hilarious triangle.
If he just lumped him up a few more times instead of dicking around on the ground, he would have either secured the KO or gotten the doctor stoppage without the wasted time.
Well, if they are not retired...who should they fight?Good fighter yes, but clearly overhyped by the UFC making a name for himself by beating old and past prime fighters.
Belal would be going on 37 if they fought in the spring. He's gonna fall off sooner than later.Nah. If he's getting held down for stretches by this version of Colby, Belal would honestly dominate him on the ground. Belal is like a version of Colby who has actual physicality and forward pressure.

I'm ok with the fights all I'm saying he's being overhyped on purpose by the UFC. The commentators was all over Buckley's nuts the entire fight it was pathetic.Well, if they are not retired...who should they fight?
