Media Brunson wonders about NBA players' pay.

He can't be serious??

A single NBA team for example, the New York Knicks....who suck, are worth $4.6 Billion just by themselves. The UFC total isn't even worth that much....well maybe they are worth more than that b/c of the ESPN deal, but not much.

The NBA makes over $2.5Billion on their TV deal ALONE with ESPN, TNT, etc. per year! That's just the TV deal. What is the UFC's total revenue for a year....maybe $1Billion from all it's revenue streams including the hot dog brander sales?

Its not all that difficult to understand.
  • 82 games a season.
  • Local, national, international tv, and radio revenue.
  • Huge merchandising.
  • NBA players are guaranteed half of the total revenue.
  • UFC fighters might get 20 percent of all revenue.

The most an MMA fighter fights is probably 5 times a year, and that is rare at the UFC level.

The most famous mma fighters fight about 3 times per 2 years.

NBA players have 82 games a year.

It's not all that difficult to understand.
20% of UFC revenue and 40-50% of NBA revenue might be the same % of profits..

20% of UFC revenue and 40-50% of NBA revenue might be the same % of profits..

Not a goddamn chance.

You can't compare revenue and profits. The NBA players and owners split revenues, not profits.

The UFC owners are keeping a far higher percentage of revenues than the NBA owners are.

Anyone on an NBA team isn't expendable. They're there because they were the best in high school, then the best in college, the best in the semi-pros, and the team needs them to win. If they lose that player, they lose a valuable asset. Basketball playing ability is a valuable asset that even the worst players on the team bring to the table. So, they get paid accordingly.

Most guys in the UFC are completely expendable. They're just there to fill up TV time and could be swapped with a random guy from any regional circuit in the world and no one would know the difference. Anyone outside the top 5 or so brings nothing to the table. They're lucky they get paid what they do. Fighting ability simply isn't a valuable skillset to bring to the table except at the elite levels.

In 2019 Khabib was the only fighter who made more from a single fight than the lowest paid regular NBA player

2019/20’s minimum wages for Regular NBA players depending on years in the league:
0 years: $898,000
1 year: $1.44 million
6 years: $2 million
10+ years: $2.56 million

But it's only natural. UFC makes like 3% of what the NBA makes?

Non American here but I don't get basketball. People say it's full of "a level athletes" and maybe it is but to me they seem wasted playing a non-contact human form of pinball.

Human pinball? You are exactly describing futbol (soccer)

If the NBA has a 10% profit margin and the UFC has a 5% profit margin, then the NBA can afford to pay twice the revenue % that the UFC can. The NBA can afford to pay 40-50% of revenue if they have a higher profit margin. If the UFC did the same, there might not be a UFC anymore.

The UFC is a smaller organization than the NBA. So, fixed costs alone, that are the same for the NBA or the UFC no matter the size of the company, make a higher % of the UFC's revenue and lower their profit margin relative to the NBA. The UFC is famously indebted. I would not be surprised at all if paying 40-50% of revenue against their debt load would sink the company and destroy the sport.

Because a clown isn't running the NBA.

Lol yeah Adam silver seems really normal

Yeah that's why smart business men are willing to pay a Billion dollars to get their mitts on a team.

UFC fighters are definitely underpaid but an NBA team brings in tremendous revenues and only has 12 players on each team to dispense the big money to.
A lot of them in smaller markets do lose money. Revenue share keeps them profitable.

DC made $5 million to fight Derrick Lewis..

No doubt. People are talking about guys like Wilt Chamberlain. GSP had a 45" vertical jump, and he had the most explosive double leg in MMA history. Wilt Chamberlain was 7' 280 lbs, and had a 48" vertical, and a 92" reach, with cardio to go 2.5 hours. You got a guy with height of Struve, 8" of reach on Jon Jones, the athleticism of GSP, and the cardio of Nick Diaz.. The NBA soaks those guys up, and MMA gets left with the tall guys like Struve that are so unathletic they look funny walking and move like they're underwater. Imagine being locked up with a beast like Chamberlain or Shaq in the cage.

UFC is on the same pay scale as the D League lmaooooooo

Only wilt would have claimed wilt had a 48 inch vertical.

Imagine their commissioner came out and straight up trashed players in the open lol there's levels to running a pro sport.

Bald Goof trying to destroy his own fighters is just another example of his idiocy. UFC fighters deserve far better than what they're getting from the greedy jackass.

The beard must live rent free in your head. Lol

That’s a really dumb thing to say.

My post was geared towards why NBA players make more than UFC fighters. My last sentence was a “whoa” type sentence in that Harden turned down a huge extension from the Rockets because he wants to play with the Nets now...meaning he’s being a Diva...

I like watching Harden play. He is a great scorer and over the past few years developed more of a rounded game with an emphasis on scoring.

lol at non-contact, I guess you haven't watched nba before 2010

it's not comparable, ufc pays the fighter
owners of the clubs pay the basketball players
these owners are billionaires

I'll never forget when JDS ktfo Cain and Dana white decided he was going to spend the post fight presser trashing JDS and Cains gameplan

Funny how ufc salaries are comparable to wnba salaries even though the wnba doesn't make shit and is completely irrelevant

It probably has to do with the total number of games being in the hundreds therefore, leaving way more time for advertisers to foot the bill.

There are YouTube stars that eat hot sauce as their skill and earn more than some UFC fighters due to the eyes and advertising theory.
