Media Brunson wonders about NBA players' pay.

Because he doesn't understand supply and demand or how a free market works

Sherdog doesn't understand it either, they're still studying marginal tax brackets

yup

ppl don’t realize that 1% of the 1% of all high school players make it to the nba.

On the other hand a lot of ufc fighters are semi pros

Yes he is

Resorting to a terrible comparison of the Bald Goof to one of the actual players in the NBA. Tremendous work.

That type of salary is for a select few, although it appears some teams are willing to spend that to take a chance on a 3-4 year player that is showing potential.

People forget how many people watch NBA vs. UFC. People also may not be aware that the NBA has a CBA, which isn't a bush league, but a collective bargaining agreement regarding revenues made by the league.

UFC is "Prize Fighting" shall we say. The best get paid, and it will most likely pail in comparison to some of the guys in the NBA over their careers.

FFS, James Harden turned down a 2 year, $103 million dollar extension so he can try and go play on the Nets...crazy. Diva's...gonna Diva.

Lol why compare yourself to NBA players. Should be obvious why they make more.

There's Tennis/Golf players (both sports of which contract employed and higher talent pool) that have college national titles and are ranked top 300 in the world and still can't do there sport for a living.

People overglorify these MMA fighters, it's a d-level sport and reality is there's more talented athletes out there making the same pay or less in other sports

He didn't turn down anything meaningful, he turned down the money from the Rockets. If he's traded there he's going to get the same extension money from the Nets

It has nothing to do with who's running the organization. The NBA players' salaries are the way they are because of the NBA Player's Association (Union). Same with the NFL, NHL, MLB, etc.

Also, Dana doesn't run the UFC. He's just the figure head, I'm starting to realize. The owners and major investors run the organization.

Salaries and unions have nothing to do with the Goof eh?

Just when you think you've heard everything.

I'm inclined to agree. Derek even assumes "everyone" in the NBA is getting it, which isn't really accurate. 150 million/5 years contracts (like the one for D'Aaron Fox) are normally for All - Star tier players.
On average, NBA salaries far dwarf MMA fighters', though.

boxing is the only other sport people should be comparing the pay to...they are the closest sports...other team sports are vastly different...those guys can play multiple times per week, or in football, once per week...while a fighter might fight 3x per year.

Love MMA but NBA has SO many more fans and thus their players will make more money..... not saying fighters get their fair share but even if they did NBA starters would make more then UFC champs

The answer is boards don’t hit back! To be honest you have to be primitive to fight for a living and it’s not worth it if your life is cut in half

The min for a vet is like 2.3 mill a year. They all make more than mma fighters unless you're a Conor type.

UFC generates a similar level of revenue to the Brazilian soccer league, not sure how the pay stacks up to that but it's probably a lot less.

EDIT - Just checked and the average salary there is $915,000 a year.

Also ppl forget ufc is pretty much mma.

There’s other organizations, but ppl watch ufc brand.

You could say the same for nba/nfl, but ppl watch those leagues cause they like the sport and are fans of teams/players.

If tomorrow there’s a new football league and teams like cowboys and Steelers join that league, many nfl fans will watch that league.

same with basketball. If tomorrow lakers or even lebron by himself join a new league, fans will watch that league.

In mma if you’re not in ufc, your value diminishes

can’t compare it to global sport like soccer.

In soccer each team has its own budget (the league is not signing players) and services of players are sought out by teams within the league or teams from other leagues.

The demand is high for soccer players. On the other hand the demand for mma fighters... not so much

Yeah, I agree with that there aren't other teams trying to sign the same players.

If Bellator was on Fox and running 45 shows a year with big PPV's and genuinely competing for ratings, pay would certainly go up.
