BREXIT Discussion, v4.0: The Back-Pedaling

UK government refuses to guarantee that EU citizens can remain in the country.

The government has refused to guarantee that foreign European Union nationals already in the UK will be allowed to remain once Britain leaves the EU, a decision condemned by Labour as causing “chaos” to huge numbers of families.

(...)

The junior Home Office minister James Brokenshire said the government could only reassure EU nationals they could remain in Britain for now, and that their status in coming years was a matter for a new prime minister.

(...)

Andy Burnham, the shadow home secretary, was more outspoken still, saying the non-British EU nationals in the country, who had arrived in the expectation they could stay permanently, were having the “rug pulled from under them”.

“The 3 million or so EU nationals living here are the fathers and mothers, aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandads of millions of British children,” Burnham said. “Any uncertainty hanging over their right to be here is tantamount to undermining family life in our country.”

The government, in refusing to act, was “creating the conditions for the unwelcoming climate to continue and the rises in xenophobic and racist abuse we have seen rising in recent days”, Burnham added.

Ealier, the Conservative leadership contender Andrea Leadsom said the future of EU nationals living in the UK should be guaranteed and they should not be used as “bargaining chips”.

And I could say the exact same about you. This is all just speculation at this point.

One thing I'm damn sure off is that Brexit will not directly effect me. I don't work in Europe. The company I work for is based in the UK. And if I had enough money to travel for a holiday, I'd go to America.

That holiday to the states just got alot more expensive lol

[QUOTE="KnightTemplar, post: 118411031, member: couldn't afford it before Brexit. So again, nothing's changed:)[/QUOTE]

Cheap aer lingus flights, grab them quick, only available for the next two years.

Well the EU his their stipulations and so does the UK. Perhaps this can give the UK some sort of leverage at the bargaining table.

No doubt.

On the other hand: Pissing off e.g. the Polish government seems unwise. All 27 member states will have to agree.

Forgive my laziness, but without going through this thread or the previous versions, has anybody on the brexit side of SD put forward a well reasoned and balanced argument for leaving?

When that dude called you a peasant, he was clearly right on many levels.

And I'll cry myself to sleep tonight thinking about that. Just like all the losers who voted for Remain.;)

So Nigel and Boris led the campaign to leave the EU but now that the UK voted to leave they are abandoning their leadership positions?

Lets not pretend either one is fit to lead the nego between Uk Eu.

Aren't we supposed to be experiencing World War 3 by now?

Freedom self governance self determination and democratic right to vote are not something modern western europe values.

Not that I've seen, no.

It usually involves some rambling about sovereignty without the faintest idea on how being an EU member, with veto rights and outside of the Schengen zone, impeached on that.

It seems the white collar workers are beginning to pack their bags:

The british parliament is going to have to respond to this very elegantly, if they want to secure a healthy future economy. Which they should be able to, with all that newly acquired sweet sweet sovereignty.

Aren't we supposed to be experiencing World War 3 by now?

Says who?
You're about to witness the U.K take some significant short-term economic damage, and depending on the response, long term damage as well.
Though you are quite possibly witnessing, what could be the beginning of the end for the U.K i.e. Scotland and Northern Ireland bails.

I expected something a bit more in depth than that. A coherent argument maybe?

To anyone from the UK supporting brexit;

If the the result had been to remain, how would your lives have changed/what would you have done differently than before the referendum?

I hope you've found a bed for the night.

I'm flattered, of course, but I'm afraid I'll have to tell you the same thing I told Jennifer Lawrence: I only like you as a friend:)
