BREXIT Discussion, v4.0: The Back-Pedaling

It was a poll basicaly it has no legal enforcement

Semantics. The referendum was set up by the British Prime Minister who agreed to abide by the decision of the British people. As did every other politician, on both sides of the argument. That's why both sides campaigned so hard.

To simply move the goalposts at this stage and refuse to abide by the result sets a very dangerous precedent.

Young people angry that the walking dead have fucked them over?

Young people fucked themselves over by not going to vote. They need to take a good hard look in the mirror, instead blaming everyone else for their "problems".

The margin of victory is irrelevant. You don't get Mulligans in a parliamentary democracy. Any more than you get to demand a replay of the Super Bowl because your team only lost by four points.

As the classic political quotation goes, "The people have spoken - the BASTARDS!" Remain and our politicians have to lie back and enjoy it. There really is other option if they want to continue to live in a democracy.
With democracy its not as black and white though... even if u squeak a win u cant just ignore the other side( im sure obama for example would like to at times) esp if they are almost as numerous as you and for the politicans (who bear in mind until another election ALSO have a democratic mandate) wont want their name associated with a clusterfuck.

Those walking dead have been paying taxes and contributing to society longer than the kiddies have been alive. They have a right to vote, and they exercised that right to save those naive kids from getting hustled by other waking dead.

If the youth wanted Brexit to fail so badly, more than 36% of them should have shown up to vote.

I agree 100% that voter turnout among the young was a shambles ,but protesting a narrow win is a part of the democratic process too maybe next time theyl be as orgainised to vote as to wave placards

I'm sorry, but it really is that simple. The precedent has been established for generations. When Thatcher was at the height of her power, Scotland voted overwhelmingly for the Labour party, but had to accept being controlled by a Tory government voted in by the South of England. Churchill said that democracy is the worst method of running a country...until one compares it to all the other ways that have been tried.

There are a great many democratic decisions in UK politics that I do not agree with. But I have to accept them, because that is the price of living in a democratic society.

If you disagree with Brexite you can protest. You can lobby your MP to make sure he fights for the best deal the UK can get when it leaves. What you absolutely cannot do is expect the democratic will of the people to be overturned just because you don't agree with it.

You know what the alternative is to the democratic process? Civil war. One politician has already been murdered by a mentally ill man obsessed with Right Wing politics and the EU referendum. If the UK government tells millions of people who voted for Brexit that their opinions and votes are worthless, a lot more politicians will meet the same fate.

They exercised their right to fuck them over based in a shitstorm of lies that every leave leader is now publicly backing off

Well maybe next time then.....if the leave campaign is so solid itl hold up over time...a few harsh winters say

Cool guys just exchange numbers, decide whol be the 'top' and get it over

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'll have to tell you the same thing I told Jennifer Lawrence; I'm very flattered, but I only like you as a friend;)

That's the worry. These people have also dispensed with the PC vaneer they once had and now make no attempt to hide their contempt and hatred for democracy, the poor and ordinary people in general. They are basically fascists.

This was the last time someone did something similar in London

Oh millennials and "lefties", what company you keep.

The worst kind of Fascist; they don't even have good fashion sense.;)

Joking aside, if the government decides to treat the democratic process with utter contempt, they risk unleashing political violence on a scale the UK has never seen before. Jo Cox will not be the last politician to be murdered. I don't want that, but I can see it coming.

Where's a safe space when you need one.

There's an old joke about the Met Police's infamous Special Patrol Group, which was so violent it was disbanded after complaints of police brutality. Especially during the Miner's Strike.

"After the Miner's Strike was finished, the SPG wanted to push on to Moscow!":)
