Is it illegal to accept that information? What would any sane politician do? What would any moral politician do?

You guys see Trump and Russia in the same sentence and throw fits every single time.

They would contact the FBI or other Law Enforcement.

Is meeting with a foreigner to discuss possible info that would help a political campaign worse than the Clinton foundation taking all that money while Hillary was in office? I mean, Hillary wasn't in any office when whoever this was offered some dirt on her, right? So i mean, you can only collect this kind of dirt from.... People within the country? Or, you are not supposed to listen to anybody who says they have information on the person you are trying to beat?

And Vice President Pence, in a statement by press secretary Marc Lotter that tried to put some distance between him and the furor

Boy, I had to read this twice. Furor. Get your shit together Mak.

Beyond mines in Kazakhstan that are among the most lucrative in the world, the sale gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States. Since uranium is considered a strategic asset, with implications for national security, the deal had to be approved by a committee composed of representatives from a number of United States government agencies. Among the agencies that eventually signed off was the State Department, then headed by Mr. Clinton’s wife,Hillary Rodham Clinton.

And shortly after the Russians announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in Uranium One, Mr. Clinton received $500,000 for a Moscow speech from a Russian investment bank with links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.

Remember when the Gore campaign got sent an oppo research dossier on Bush and immediately turned it over to the FBI? America's pride and dignity remembers.

To report somebody giving you info on your opponent?

I guess I need to read the emails. If they said they were going to do something illegal to get the info, then I guess any sane politician would contact law enforcement. Is that the case?

I kind of think the first page in this thread is funny, btw.

The collusion that was found that tainted the American election was between corporate owned media and the DNC. Do you understand that?

Let's say it was American classified information (which the email seems to say it was actually Russian classified information) that 100% proved that Hillary was involved in everything the pizza-gate conspiracy claimed was true.

Russians approach you and say "we have information on Hillary and pizza-gate, 100% verified". You would then ask yourself, why is this information classified? Isn't this a Watergate level cover up? Let's see if this is true and then release it to the public.

At least, that's what I hope any sane person would do. Leaking information that someone who could have been president did a crime is perfectly fine. Otherwise, everybody today would love Nixon!

So he should reject information that could potentially incriminate someone running for president? Isn't that obstruction of justice on some level?

No, he makes a call to the FBI and tells them about the email. Hg excess part of the campaign as was approached by what he thought was the Russian government.

Do we really want foreign governments actively trying to influence our elections? Should we allow them to donate money? Form Superpacs?

An interesting part of this story is that republican dirty politics researcher Peter Smith according to the Wall Street Journal two months after this meeting discovered the hacked e-mails but wasn't 100% confident of their veracity.

I'm not sure if he discovered this whilst being outside the loop closest to Trump who had already seen the e-mails or if the Trump administration defered this part of the campaign to Mike Flynn after an unsuccessful meeting.

Either way it adds weight to the idea that the Russians hacked Hillary's e-mails.

Very hard to tell exactly what happened from the outside.

The main questions are why are so many from the Trump administration lying about meetings with Russians, why was Comey fired and why is Trump so ridiculously soft of Putin.

Personally I think there is enough evidence of collusion coupled with the obstruction of justice for the outrageous firing of Comey to impeach an increasingly politically isolated Trump who can't offer a prayer of following through on his campaign boasts.

lol at america having dignity.

Yes, and you will be surprised at the audacity.

Is that not a dignified and patriotic act, especially during an election (feel free to insert an example from your political party of choice if Gore doesn't do it for you)? If you didn't notice, it stands in one hell of a contrast.

So you can't meet with people in other government's when running for president of the US?

What the fuck are you saying?

Yes, it is actually specifically very illegal for private citizens to deal with foreign governments that have ongoing disputes with foreign powers, like sanctions.

The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that details the fine and/or imprisonment of unauthorized citizens who negotiate with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. It was intended to prevent the undermining of the government's position. The Act was passed following George Logan's unauthorized negotiations with France in 1798, and was signed into law by President John Adams on January 30, 1799. The Act was last amended in 1994, and violation of the Logan Act is a felony.

It's a felony.

So you can't meet with people in other government's when running for president of the US?

What the fuck are you saying?

You can't ask for or receive assistance. It is bright letter law that nothing of value can be received.

So if hypothetically, you see Hillary Clinton murder someone on a video that Russians give you that is considered 'classified information' (and again, the email suggests that the classified information isn't even from America, but rather from Russia), you would simply go to the FBI with the tape?

I think most sane people would send the tape to every journalist they could.
