News Brandon Royval pulls out of the Kape fight due to injury

Over royval who whooped his ass? How could it be justified?

Can be justified fairly easily.

1) Moreno is a two time champion and his route back to the title will always be shorter than Royval's.
2) Moreno is the face of a big market for the UFC.
3) Moreno's last loss to Pantoja was a close split decision and the fight of the night for UFC 290.

It'd be awful business to make that fight.

Well if it happens it happens, I would rather they avoid making it too but yeah the UFC probably won't make Moreno win 3-4 fights for another title shot, 2 will probably be enough.
I think it'd be MUCH more likely they give the fight to figgy off a loss than do that

No way lol, Figgy is old and past his best, the UFC has no incentive to push him to the front of the line. KKF is likely getting the next flyweight title shot & he's on a win streak of 1. I'd rather see KKF get the shot than old Figgy who has nothing left for flyweight at his age. The weight cut was killing him by the time he fought Moreno the fourth time.

herp derp he's a former 2 time champion herp derp already has a win over moreno AND pantoja should be just as easy as pushing moreno

Super unfortunate but Royval is a dawg so I don't doubt that this is a serious injury worthy of a pullout. He's the guy who shut down the Tatsuro Taira title run hype train

At least flyweight is in a better position now, looking down that Top 15, anybody really would make for a fun scrap with Kape and hell at least we'll get a new title contender out of it.

Kape/Taira would be my personal pick. But a Kape/Asakura trilogy would be good fun.

Maybe even give Charles Johnson the step up?

At worst, put Kape in against Moreno and make Erceg/Johnson, it makes more sense than Johnson yet again fighting another unranked guy, and tbh even saying at worst, these are two very fun scraps.

Figgy is 37 years old. He doesn't have much of a future at flyweight.
Pantoja will be 35 when he defends the title next. both fighters are old, either one can retire at any time

I dont think the future of flyweight is the concern. They just need to make a fight for pantoja that is interesting and isn't a rematch of someone he's already beaten. even if Figgy were to retire after the fight I still think the UFC would consider making that fight. Pantoja will NEVER be a drawing popular champion so it doesn't matter if you have him lose to figgy.

Figgy has already expressed interest in doing this. I would not be surprised if his Flyweight return is being worked on.

Last time Kape faced Pantoja he coasted to a loss, so I'd rather Kai get the shot since he'll at least go for it until the fight ends.

True, but it was also his first UFC fight and Pantoja was a veteran already. Not that Kape was green or anything either.
