Bouncers acting like hard-asses

I've noticed a few seemingly douchebag bouncers, but only had one bad personal encounter.

I was in the upstairs of some shitty Irish pub in Vancouver for my wife's friend's birthday. I had to go downstairs to use the washroom and some 5'7" stocky Indian bouncer blocked my path when I tried to get back up. This is right after I watched a group of girls go up in front of me.

After trying to explain my situation, he said it was "too full" and to just wait. He goes on to let two more groups of girls up. I tell him it's bullshit and I was going to leave, so he moves aside and says "come up bro". I was like fuck it, went to walk by the guy and he throws a hammer fist from his hip in to my chest and calls me a "fucking douchebag" in the whiniest girl voice. I said "touch me again and see what happens" and kept it moving, which was a complete bluff on my part.

I was a foot taller than the guy but there was no way I'd risk getting in a fight, getting arrested, and losing my job that solely provides for my family. I probably made his life when I did nothing, but I'm also sure someone else has punched him in the face by now.

Seen a bouncer drop an unconcious guy (from drinking too much, politely by himself) on the sidwalk on his face, intentionally, it popped his nose like a grape. What a fucking asshole.

Went to a bar/club in the middle of the afternoon to buy tickets to a show they were having later, nobody was there except myself and this guy (and apprently someone else in the back who had the tickets) I ask where to get the tickets he just sneered at me, laughed it off and turned his back to me.

If I still went out to public drinking places I'd probably end up killing a bouncer one of these days. Fuck em.

I'm the most non threatening person on Earth, but I still get a bad vibe from bouncers.

Only good experience I've had with a bouncer was surprisingly at a strip club. He was sitting at a table next to mine and cracking jokes the whole time. He was like a big kid.

I've seen both sides. Have friends who bounce and worked in bars and clubs for years so I was cool with them. On the other hand as a patron I've seen these guys be real assholes. Harassing women punking out dudes with their girls having poor fuckers waiting out in the cold all night just to be dicks. The worst I saw a couple get beat bloody by 4 men and they just watched laughing leaving the crowd to intervene. I don't go out much these days but when I do I'm packing. I don't play that shit and have no probs popping out some knees.

Is it in a bouncer's job description to act like they are bad ass mofos? Are their intimidation skills tested before they get the job?

I understand that when drunk partiers get out of line they have to put their foot down, but to act like that ALL the time is just ridiculous.

You gotta cultivate doormen, and it takes patience. Always treat them with respect, and offer them a drink every so often. 99 times out of 100 they will be ****s at first and then after a while they are cool.

Heres the thing, when the doormen are cool with you, you can jump the queue, get people thrown out and always get a degree of protection and a favourable bias in the venue. Doormen are inclined to be pricks if they think A) they can get away with it, or B) they are dealing with someone a little bit tasty, but they can probably get away wit it. Ive seen doormen slapped by drug dealers in the street, outside their club and do nothing. They are just hired muscle on a door and they dont want to get shot. Very few doormen are deep like that in a street way, thats why they are doormen. On the other hand, you need to ask yourself who owns the venue and if they are the kind of people who call the police, or just call someone else.

If youre just out to have a good time, then none of this really applies.

Always treat doormen with respect, and if you have to front them, because they cross the line with you, then make it clear "look, if you dont want me here, then just say." This diffuses the situation without you having to walk up on dickhead with a brick in your hand. Its never worth tagging uniforms like that, and if you really have an issue with the prick then do it out of hours and no need to explain why he got smashed up.

Thats it really.

Never argue with them if youve been asked to leave or refused entry, unless you have serious juice in the place, or with the owners or another doorman. Even then, just go to the other person and not them. If you do know people and know you can get them over ruled, then try not to make it all about you going over their head, dont bother making it about "do you know who i am" to a doorman. If you gotta wait for another doorman to come out of something, then just take a distance and say its cool and take a walk back outside their area. If you do go over their head, then expect them to say something to you. Just be polite and make it clear its cool, and you realise they were only doing their job.

Always say cheers mate/ have a good night when you leave the venue etc etc. Its basic fuckin stuff really.

Every club you go into is someones house, and there is zero reason to beef with anyone, least of all doormen. Even in a fight situation, hands up and walk out.

Source : Lived in pubs and clubs.

I also got a friend who went to jail for beating a doorman senseless and leaving him with a part of his body missing. The doorman was in the wrong, but he still got some bird for that shit. They aint invicible, they are just walking stab targets who think they are. But its almost never worth going to jail to prove that point.

Two other things, there are different kinds of doormen. Some like to stamp peoples cards, and some are polite and vigilant. Some are strong silent, and some are talkers who are full of shit and muscle boys. Its not all the same thing, but they are all playing in the same field, so theres generalities that apply.

In the uk they opperate within a very small legal window, so all of their front is bullshit. This doesnt mean they are, some of them absolutely will make the wrong decision and pay for it. Some of them are absolute nutters and some are full of shit or just blind, deluded and full of themselves. Some of the coolest people ive known are doormen too. Its a real mix. But they aint 100ft tall and they dont always have the law on their side. There is two things that scare the shit out of doormen. 1 is that guy who calls the police on them. 2 is someone walking up out of the dark, taking a picture of them and walking off...

Once me and a buddy ran into some girls we knew outside of a club. We talked to them while they were either on the line or in the smoking area (can't remember).

What I do remember is the bouncer telling me and my buddy that we needed to get off the sidewalk if we weren't going into the club. We just ignored him until the third time I got in his face and told him that the club began once people walked through the door and that they didn't own the sidewalk. I wasn't blocking anyone or anything so I told him to fuck off.

There is a very good chance that the club did, in fact, own the sidewalk.

Some Bouncers are douchebag bullies on a power trip. Others are professionals who treat people with respect and only use force when they have to.

In other words, they're exactly like Cops.

in a place I used to go the used to do ****y stuff, like letting in a group of people except the last one, or decide that the next guy wearing a white shirt won't enter, just for fun. I was lucky one of them used to train with me so I didn't have to go through that shit

Bouncers and recovery agents usually have an attitude until you see them in emergency room crying like a little bitch with a skinned knee because someone beat their ass for that machismo crap they fling at everyone they come across.

bouncers should look and act intimidating, even if they aren't "good" at fighting. i think most people will behave in bars and clubs if they think the bouncer can beat their ass.

really? what part dont you believe? would be kind of pathetic to make up either story on a anoymous forum, particularly when the first story involves me getting destroyed and the second one involves me being shitfaced. Let me know and I will clarify any doubts you may have. Im guessing its the second one, does sound too good to be true but it is, in fact I can even give you the date dispite the fact that it was years ago as it was a particularly eventfull day. I have a lot more bouncer storys where they came from, most of them not so nice though
I don't believe that you were "calmly" talking to the bouncer.

Yep.

yeah i think its needed to the job, if you deal with retarded drunk pricks every single night you just have to adapt to all the shit you get from people

plus you have to be a fucking coward so you can team up with a bunch of other ********* ass bouncers to beat on one person

Bouncers have to dress silly no wonder they're always so butthurt.

No, their job is keeping drunk idiots, who aren't keeping the atmosphere light and peaceful, in their place. And if the aforementioned drunk idiots refuse to listen to warnings, then they're escorted out the door. You don't want to get bounced? Don't act like a fucking fool. It's as simple as that.

Yes of course it is. It's just that theres an alarmingly high number (that i've seen) that are just itching to start something. I've seen a pair of bouncers follow some guy down the street and they were just kicking lumps out of him, despite the fact that the man wasn't doing anything back or even being remotely hostile.

Most are good guys sure, but like with any job there are going to be idiots who abuse their position.

Some of them are pretty decent guys but come on...

What do you expect from uneducated people who take "tough guy" jobs for 10 dollars an hour?

Some jobs just naturally attract assholes like bouncers, cops, hoa, etc. You know, jobs that require low qualifications but comes with some level of authority.

Most are full-time cops and do it for a side job.

Some are wannabe cops.

Not a surprise that they are dickheads.

Actually..... most are not. Full time cops can pull security at a bank for $40 bucks an hour in their off time. The wannabe cops are usually in the military, corrections, or actual professional careers. The guys guarding the doors at shitty bars are usually the same type of people as the ones in the establishment, losers. Not a surprise the patrons don't sympathize with them, hard to look in the mirror.
