Replace oliveira's name with Makhachev, leave the submission streak intact, and many on this forum will go and say Islam doesn't deserve a title shot beating tony coming off a loss and that his record is padded.

I think he's good but he's has yet to really prove he can hang on an elite level. His manager has done a great job of finding him favourable fights. Ali couldn't get tony for Islam but Charles manager could.

Danawhite and the ufc didn't want to make the lee-islam fight because they wanted to sell it and build it up. Charles manager got him that fight

Now, he has no favourable matchups. All the elite are killers. Including Conor relatively compared to oliveira's level.

He's not overrated when it comes to his ranking but he's overrated when it comes to his reputation among light weights. Does he deserve a title shot? Yes, maybe. But that's by default and process of elimination. Almost everyone else is coming off a loss. He beat the number five guy.

But I wouldn't be mad if he had to fight one more and actually beat an elite guy to actually be considered for the title shot.

Keep in mind he’s finishing those guys too. A few of them in the first round even. So Charles is 10000% a top 10 fighter in the division and that Tony win said a lot, because he beat Tony’s ass and damn near broke his arm in that first round.

Lee is probably the most underrated LW of all time at this point. Both his fights against RDA and Olivera were incredibly close and he’s 2 years younger than Oli.

and people act like the dude is some bum even when he’s competing against the best guys while being one of the younger fighters hovering around the top 10.

And Oli is very legit. Both his striking and jiu jitsu have come a long way.

BS. Tony started very strong against Justin, and after the second round Gaethje controlled the pace. Oliveira beated Tony from the first second on the mat AND in the standup. Complete dominance.
I don´t know if DoBronx will be champ, but please don´t change what happened just for it to fit your narrative.

Facts are Oliveira record is reasonably close to Gaethje.

Ok, remove Cowboy from Gaethje’s record. I agree Cowboy was washed by that point. But please, don’t tell me that the Tony that fought Gaethje was the same guy that fought Olives. Fights like that, and the damage Tony took, permanently changes fighters and the change is dramatic and sudden. Ton does get hit a lot, yes, but so do dustin, max and joanna. all 4 have great defense, its just that their pace means that they get hit quite a bit
