Traitor Son Cycle.

reminds me of Game Of Thrones solely in the sense of so many characters finally coming together in the same style theme. Can be a bit overwhelming at first but the author does a great job of introducing new character development.

same theme as GOT, but more so reliant on battle. Cheaper thrills, but after reading afew wheel of time novels I’m all for it. Don’t think I’ll ever finish “Wheel Of Time”. Book four took me over a month to read, I pounded out “The Stand” in a week and a half.

I'm finally getting around to reading "Journey to the West". I'm actually fairly surprised at how gruesome it is in places. At the same time it makes me chuckle that classic literature from a country accused of forced organ harvesting has descriptions of the protagonist summoning a bird that rips out someones organs.

issa mastuhpiece. one of the funniest novels ever written (but also very tragic) & way ahead of its time (still can’t believe it was published in the early 1600s). being probably the first “postmodern” novel ever written aside, the fact that Don Quixote predates Tristram Shandy by almost two centuries is crazy enough in its own right. i was thinking of rereading it again this winter when i have more free time on my hands, even though it’s a fairly quick read in spite of its page length.

any experience w/ the picaresque style? or even absurd lit? the amount of digressions & general lack of forward movement of the plot might stall out some new readers early on, but it appears as though you’re fairly well read, so i doubt that will be an issue. i’ll eat my phone if you don’t fall in love w/ it.
 
Currently I'm reading a Thomas Sowell book about basic economics. I enjoy the book, yet I'm familiar with most said so I'm reading it sparingly.

Soon though I'll be reading the newest Sowell book. It comes out in a week or so.

The black-white educational achievement gap -- so much discussed for so many years -- has already been closed by black students attending New York City's charter schools. This might be expected to be welcome news. But it has been very unwelcome news in traditional public schools whose students are transferring to charter schools. A backlash against charter schools has been led by teachers unions, politicians and others -- not only in New York but across the country. If those attacks succeed, the biggest losers will be minority youngsters for whom a quality education is their biggest chance for a better life.
 
Can anyone recommend some good mafia books- i’ve never read mario puzo of godfather fame- anyone read his books? Are they good! Or any mafia books fiction or non fiction.

Ive been ripping through the cosmere. My stormlight is up to date. Ive gone through era 1 of mistborn. Half way through elantris and any non spoiler in the arcanum. Quite fond of the cosmere, it gets more fun the more you read it. Probably start warbreaker next week.

Very excited for stormlight 4. Most excited ive been about a book release since book 8 of the dark tower.

I like absurd lit, a few of my favorite french existentialists wrote novels that genre. I like the book so far, watching the yale online course as I go.
Do you have any other book recommendations?

New Jim Butcher novel releases tomorrow. I’ve never quit on a book in my life regardless of how painful it’s been, but I may have to pause in my Miles Cameron novel (unlikely) or power read (likely) Traitor Son Cycle. I show up to work an hour early every day to read, but this book is too big, I may have to cut Starcraft out of my diet.

if you like Don Quixote & are looking for a challenge, you could give The Sot-Weed Factor by John Barth a shot. closer to Fielding or Sterne than Cervantes, but they are progenitors of Cervantes & idk if i could have read Sot-Weed w/o having already read Don Quixote. alternatively, you could read Tom Jones or Tristram Shandy, the latter being much more advanced imo.

what are some of your favorite novels? i could try to put some more recommendations on the table based off of that if i am familiar enough w/ the material
