News Bo Nickal calls Khamzat's wrestling 'trash': 'I wouldn't even say mid'

<6> he's a div1 3 time champion wrestler taking down guys who took a few striking classes and stepped up to make a few hundred bucks on a weekend LUL "having five training camps" like he was fighting jon Jones, he didn't need anything extra other than make weight until his UFC debut.

Training camps aren't required, Michael Bisping said he never did a training camp until he was on tuf just his regular training to stay ready and taking any fight he could

Bo isn't Michael Bispoing, he understands what is required and puts in the hours. Bisping was an idiot early in his career (I like him) and your comparison between the two is idiotic.

Khamzat didn't want to take Burns down because Burns is a BJJ champion. The thing about wrestling is it lets you dictate where the fight takes place.

Did u watch the fight?

He went for takedowns early and often round 1 then gassed.

Sure, cause he was so successful at tds vs a former 155lb fighter.
He literally went 2/3 on TDs against Burns.

Big amazing ZOMG WRESTLING ELITE Bo Dallas literally did worse against a burger flipper

This dude is comically overrated as of right now. His wrestling isn't as good as people are claiming it is.

Nickal talks a whole lot of shit.

We'll see how he does.

I think Khamzat is going to walk through Costa.

Costa struggled with Luke and wasnt able to finish him.

Pre burns fight id agree but post burns i have some hesitations. I mean burns was a fucking lightweight. Like im big fan of khamzat but hes got some work to do.

If dana opened the floodgates and went purely on mma skills ignoring the money to be made all divisions would be 80% from dagestan and other similar countries

not in your wildest dreams would that happen, dagestan is irrelevant outside of abdulmanap's gym

That LW whose had more WW fights in the ufc than LW fights is far better than anyone Bo has beat. Like very very significantly better.

Bo Dallas struggled to take down some nobody jabroni who barely has a winning record.

*inserts sherdogger comment about being too large to be triangled.

His analysis is correct., rude or not. In America most every kid played some measure of baseball, football, soccer, or basketball. Very very very few Americans, even within the MMA fan base, have ever wrestled, trained in BJJ, boxed, kickboxed, etc. If a person never wrestled its hard to grasp how another man, your own size or smaller, can hold you down and barely break a sweat. The MMA fan base at large is delusional. Bo lacks tact and I suppose he might be rude but he isn't wrong. I'll give you an example, my son is in college and he had wrestled from around the age of eight. His IG had some photos with his wrestling teammates at various tournaments from across the country. At the dorm one night he is with a group of guys watching a UFC event and my son's roommate says hey this kid (my son) wrestled in high school and was supposedly good. You can guess what happened next, my son said he had to wrestle a whole bunch of dudes who were convinced they could simply get up or that he couldn't take them down. None got up, all went down. MMA fans by and large are delusional.
I just hope he's realistic. I wouldn't put him against Khamzhat for a while.

Yes I watched the fight. I know he took down Burns in the first. However, I don't think takedowns against Burns were really the gameplan Khamzat's coaches had in mind.

To be fair, outside of turning his head into pillow fist Bisping's left hook, Rockhold has only been finished by absolute killers: Belfort, Romero, Blachowicz, and Perry.

"understands what is required and puts in the hours"
Bisping made his professional debut when Bo Nickal was 8 and only recently retired, with a storied career that included a championship win and more top ten opponents than Bo has had handjobs. Training camps, like hard sparring, are a theory that has been taken as fact in the sport due to confirmation bias. Ferguson was the consensus #2 LW on the planet for half a decade never having a camp. Hard sparring has, thankfully, fallen out of favour, with many fighters opting out of sparring entirely. I believe that hard training camps will also go the way of the wind, outside of the strategic/gameplanning aspects of them. The fact that the majority of fighter injuries are in training camps lends credence to this theory, overexerting your body to extremes has both positive and negative effects. I won't be surprised if larger fight teams start buying up "fighter houses" as the sport expands, to keep steady training/dietary schedules.

'The Dagestani Slayer', who is a 3x NCAA D1 champion, had this to say about Khamzat and his wrestling:

“It’s trash,” Nickal said in an interview with Clash of Combat. “I wouldn’t even say mid-(level).”

“At the end of the day, I feel like I can say whatever about his wrestling skills, his fighting skills, this and that, we’re going to fight at some point and people will realize there’s levels,” Nickal said. “It’s just so funny, you go into a world of MMA where there’s no other sport where people know less and think they know more.”

Nickal picks Chimaev to win, but wonders how he will deal with Costa’s size.

“I think it’s going to be a good fight,” Nickal said. “Probably – I think he probably will. It’s definitely a different ball game when you go from 170 to 185. We’re talking about a different size human being.”

“We’ll see how he does,” Nickal continued. “He’s obviously a big ’70, but it’s a different size human, and to me, anybody who can make 170, none of those dudes are going to be competitive with me. Costa is a different story, I’m going to watch the fight, so we’ll see how he does.”
