Why for BMF title and not LHW title?

Because Jones probably can't make LHW anymore.

What's in it for Pereira?

A shot at beating the GOAT and streamlining himself into the discussion.

What's in it for Jones?

An epic GOAT-cementing victory while simultaneously avoiding Tom Aspinall.

Why now?

Pereira just got his title back in an underdog victory over Ankalaev.

He's old. Jones is old. They're both still on top. Jones isn't fighting Aspy unless you give him McGregor money and this is actually a McGregor money level fight because Pereira is a bigger star than Aspinall at this point.

Jones is huge. And he's a great wrestler. Making mincemeat of a UFC cash cow isn't what they would want. Not only can he absorb big hits the way smaller guys can't, but he canr just take Alex down and turn it to a ground game immediately.

Pereira might be a cash cow but he doesn't have a lot of prime years left. It's not like we're looking at a long-standing champion.

Why not just milk him for a huge superfight while he's on top for a short period. It'll give him the luxury retirement money he'll enjoy and Jones gets what he wants too.

True but Jones wouldn't capitalise on it. I'm thinking that they'd rather have someone else get the shine from beating Alex (Jones would just retire again).

But I can see your point as well. This probably sells more than anything else.

Jones is the opposite of a BMF.

A BMF will fight anyone, and is not afraid to stand and bang.

Jones wouldn't even fight a middleweight Chael because he didn't have enough time to prepare.

Jones delayed his move to HW for years so he wouldn't have to fight Francis.

And instead of unifying the title like he was supposed to, Jones called out a washed up old retired HW that lost his last fight, and tried to sell it as a legit title defense.

He's about as far away from a BMF as you can get.

I hope they go for Pereira vs Aspinall. Jones will fuck up again or refuse to fight. I have absolutely no desire to hear about him again.

Good case for JJ vs Alex at HW except two things

As someone else pointed out, JJ is clearly cherry picking fights & would be a heavy favorite so no BMF but it wouldn’t be needed to sell this “superfight”

And secondly, Jones wouldn’t fight Aspinal for all the money in the world

It's a good warm up fight for Poatan before Aspinall

Unless he completely shits the bed, this fight is a gimme for JJ.

No BMF belt. Something like this instead:

this.

if dana is smart, he'll know that jones vs pereira is the BIGGEST mma fight of all time.
it doesn't matter if it's for the hw belt or not, jones and pereira are fighting for GOAT status.

pereira chasing 3 division champ (beating jones is basically becoming the best hw), never been done before.
jones looking to humilate pereira in the octagon, the unstoppable brazilian knockout artist.

tom can have a title defense with another contender, almeida, at any other normal ufc event.

Okay, so this is what really makes your boy parts move. Noted.

GOAT-cementing victory while avoiding someone else? Absolutely zero GOATness there bro, biggest duck in UFC history. The UFC tried to give him more than he was worth and he STILL retired instead of fighting Tom Aspinall. He fucking vacated his title and retired rather than fight someone. Let that sink in.

Pereira is chasing the hard fights and glory. Tom will fight anyone. Jones will only fight people he knows he can beat when all the odds are stacked in his favour. And that excites you as a fight fan?

Calm your tits dude, Jon will be on the White House card. Dana's moved mountain for Jones before. If the UFC wants to stack a "Murica! first" card, there's only so many American stars right now so Jon will get a walk-on. Also, you don't to piss off the "Alex is ducking Khamzat Chimaev, it's not fair!!!" crowd and get them going.

If there needs to be a title on the line to make you happy for a fight, you're a casual, so go sit in the corner. Can't just appreciate a fight for what it is?

I expect to see at least Jones, Max, JG, and Lewis on the card. I think Harrison vs Nunes is a lock for that card.

Its a fight that should absolutely happen but there is no need to bring that goofy DEI consolation prize belt anywhere near it.

If its the main event of UFC White House card then I could see them making a special UFC White House Belt with all the presidents faces at the side of the belt, kinda like the diamonds on the WBC belts lol. They need an American to headline that event anyways, so I wouldn't be surprised if its Jones vs Alex

The guy afraid to defend his title is going to fight for the BMF title.

Did Vince write this?

After watching Jones vs. Stipe, I highly doubt that.

Miocic didn't connect many times, but when he did, it stung Jones and you could see in his body language. Look at all the resets Jones did, backing off. Alex would run him down and blast him if Jones turned his back to him like that. Stipe physically couldn't chase him down. Jones had Miocic on the ground for most of the first round and couldn't put him away. You're bent if you think HW Jones is better than the LHW version of him. I think Jon looked like shit against Miocic, but to each their own.

Pereira's first punch in the rematch, the one Ank blocked with his arms, hurt him. Alex came across the cage, and delivered a statement. I am 100% certain Alex has the power to sleep Jones, and Poatan's leg kicks would bust up Jones' skinny little getaway sticks like twigs. Even in the loss to Ankalaev, Alex showed pretty good TDD so I'm not convinced at this point Jon's wrestling would see him through. Alex is hungry and Jon's just clout-chasing and seeking attention at this point. Pereira is the easier fight for Jon (instead of Tom), but it's not going to be the cakewalk that Jon and his fans think it will be. Pereira might not be a HW, but it sure seems like he hits like one.
