BMF should not passed nor defended

That's exactly how I've always thought of it. A legacy championship between two UFC veterans still in the top 10, but not necessarily title contenders.

Not a belt that is defended or "held", but just an acknowledgement of the significance of the legacy fight.

Jiri vs DDP
Jones vs Pereira
Holloway vs Oliveira

These are all fights that could headline a card and lots of people would watch. I talked shit about Holloway vs Poirier before it happened, but it ended up outselling Topuria vs Oliveira, which I did not see coming. So the BMF title fights are definitely drawing in the casuals.

just having the first BMF fight end to a diaz having a face cut made it a joke.
topuria unofficially unified/took it when he beat max. bmf is dead.
power slap belts have more legitimacy.

I used to hate the BMF belt but I’ve actually grown to like it. But I do agree we need some clarity on how it should be managed.

If I could make the rules behind it I would say nobody can ever fight for it twice. If u lose it thats it there should never be a two time BMF champion, so the defining accomplishment would be how many defences a fighter can make while running out of contenders in and around their weight class.

When I say in and AROUND their weight class I specifically think that anyone who qualifies for being a BMF should be able to jump weight and fight a BMF contender at the next weight class above. Or have a contender from the weight class below jump up to challenge. Thats what a real BMF should already be able to do. This way the belt would be able to change weight classes instead of being stuck at 155 and have more opportunities for it to be challenged.

It would make more sense if it were like a lineal title in boxing aka "the man who beat the man".

In that case JDM would be the current BMF title holder.
