If you have seen BLADE RUNNER 2049, how would you rate it?

Hmm I thought it had a Berkley one, it popped up first time I searched. Oh well maybe next year they'll have one
 
I'd like to amend my score from a 6 to a 7, the more I think about it the more I like it.

Couple of things that bugged me though. Robin Wright was poorly cast imo, she seemed out of place.

The bad bitch replicant chick played by sylvia hoeks was drowned, like wtf why do replicants even need to breath? seems like a serious design flaw.
 
Really enjoyed this film. The visuals, sound design and music was on point.

I enjoyed the plot and the twist took me by surprise.

The new replicants are programmed to obey their superiors. So how come K was able to lie and disobey orders.
I'll have to rewatch the film but I think that's the whole point. The nexus 9s arent as obedient as Wallace believes. You even see Luv tearing up when Wallace murders one of the replicants by cutting open her abdomen. They haven't explicitly mentioned this in th film but I believe Anna has been implanting real memories into Wallace's replicants, embedding the seeds of rebellion in them. Considering the number of replicants we saw in the rebellion movement with Freya, I think all of them at one point subconsciously believed they were the one, because all of them have fragments of the ones memories.

Why give replicants emotions in the first place if they're just meant to be slaves for all intents and purposes. This would be akin to giving intelligence and the ability of speech to farm animals and pets - nothing good will come out of it.
I believe this is so they can function. I don't remember where I read this, but for the proper development of the replicants and for them to perform optimally, they need memories.


Wallace confessed wanting to create more replicants to be added to the work force across the many off worlds. So why would he want to know how to reproduce replicants the natural way when it takes years for one to reach adulthood. I assume he can just create hundreds of replicants in an assembly line in a single day.
For some reason, naturally breeding them is more efficient in the long term. Besides if replicants could breed, they wouldn't need to be shipped off-world, they could just reproduce while already there. This negates the cost of production and logistics. Thats a double win for Wallace. As for aging and maturing, I'm sure they could speed that up somehow. Even if they cant, it still advantageous if your product could self produce.

It would have been more believable motive if Wallace wanted the replicant child to quash any potential replicant uprising in the future.
Or to instigate war and profit from it.

I like Joshi, she seems like a sharp, tough cop but was disappointed with her last scene. She already suspects that the mortician/lab guy was killed by Wallace Corp to cover up the existence of the replicant child. So when Luv entered her room, Joshi already suspects that Luv wants to know K’s location. And since Joshi was not going to give up K, she should have known that she would also be killed. Joshi should have drawn her gun from a drawer or something the moment Luv showed up.
Agreed. The scene could have played out the same, but with Joshi putting up more of a fight.

Luv killing Joshi in the middle of a police station and nothing happens to her seemed ridiculous. I’d buy it if they explained Wallace Corp’s influence is great and the cops are corrupt.
I'm surprised there wasnt any CCTV footage of Luv killing Coco. How was Luv allowed to get anywhere near Joshi? Unless ofcourse Luv took care of all of that behind the scenes (by deleting the footage or doctoring it). A small mention of that was all that was required in the movie. Perhaps they did film it but left it on the cutting room floor to reduce runtime? Who knows.

I'm normally a romantic but for some reason Joi's death didn't hit me emotionally.
It was well setup, but the final execution of it could have been better. The scenes of Joi with K in the beginning of the movie were some of my favorites. Joi went from being an AR sex toy, to being a autonomous AI that actually had feelings for K. This subtly nudged the subject of humanity even further - Do you even need a body to be human?

Luv not taking K into custody or killing him when she abducted Deckard was just stupid.
Yup, this was stupid. Considering replicants are considered dangerous and that there is a whole profession dedicated to 'retiring' them. Add to this the fact that K knew too much, leaving him alive was a baffling decision. I guess you could pass it off as carelessness, but I still cant suspend my disbelief enough to buy that explanation.

Despite what Ridley Scott said, it is still unknown if Deckard is a replicant or not.
I for one, am fine with the ambiguity. Either explanation has implications about how human replicants really are, and to that end, it doesn't matter which one you consider as canon.

yeah the twist got me as well, so was ryan goslings memory of getting beat up as kid actually her memory implanted into him? If so I'm not sure why. Rachel having real memories implanted by Tyrell makes sense, but presumably the Wallace Corp made Gosling so where did they get the memory from and why implant it?

I don't think they mention Rachel having real memories. But its Dr Ana Steller (Deckards daughter) whose implanted her real memories into replicants. Shes one of the main contractors for Wallace for replicant memories. Shes supposed to construct perfect memories for replicants, but apparently has given (atleast in the case of K) fragments of her real memories. Her exact motivations for doing this remains unclear. Whether its a purposeful act to stir up an uprising or a form of catharsis for her to cope with her own existence cordoned off from other ppl, is something they'll probably explore in the sequel, I hope.

Paragraph 1 - I love your explanation on why some of the newer models are not 100% obedient. It really fits.

2 - Eh, still doesn't feel right.

3 - @Anung Un Rama already mentioned this and I agree that it makes sense.

4 - Not convinced yet.

5 - Really glad somebody else felt that way. :)

6 - Perhaps they left it in the cutting room floor but again glad somebody else thought something didn't feel right with that situation.

7 - I liked all the scenes with Joi but that last scene, for some reason, didn't click with me.

Some quick toughts.

The visuals in GITS live action movie were hurt by the use of annoying holograms instead of billboards (maybe to not look like BR), and in BR 2049 we see holograms appear on the cIty, not as annoying as in GITS but I prefer billboards.

All the women on the film looked beutiful (ok not all, there was the one eyed one, but the rest mmm).

Gosling dating a IA was cute/sad, while its just sad for a human to fall in love with a IA (HER) , it probably makes perfect sense for a robot.

I do feel it was to long, my back started to hurt the last 40 minutes.

In regards the Joi, (the AI)
I like to think she did genuinely love Agent K. Early on in the film, I thought the plot was going to lead Agent K into a confrontation with Wallace and somehow getting a replicant body for Joi in the process.

Would have been nice to see, but it would have consumed to much story, and besides, the arch they gave her was great and true to what I think Blade Runner should be.

Joi was definitely one of my favorite characters due to the moral questions her role evoked.... Plus, the actress is a fucking 10/10. ;)

You're right there.

She was born mad as thunder. Isolating her gave her more reason for dissent.

She's also the one who reminds us how memories play a role in obedience.

She has a crush on him, too. Luv has to deal with a lot of emotions she is unfit to process. She's basically a lethal child. Which is part of her affinity towards K, who is the same way, and let's face it so is Ryan Gosling in every movie he's ever been in.

They're easier to control when they have memories because they're more emotionally stable.

Freysa put her there under the pretense of an immune deficiency that prevented her from following her parents off-world.

I laughed really hard what she did to poor Joshi, and Robin Wright selling her head getting knocked on the desk was better than anything she did in WONDER WOMAN. That's a fifty year old woman.
 
cool I'll watch it tommorrow if I can get tickets sounds like it might sell out at my theater if I don't order online today.
 
I loved this movie. Need to see it again to really catch everything. Really nice color, city-scapes (although like DL5x mentioned seemed lifeless for the most part). The sparse dialog really allows your mind to run wild.

About whether Deckard is a replicant or not:
I don't think he is. I think Wallace tried to fake him out to get him to talk, and it failed.

It's a shame the box office numbers aren't doing well, but I imagine they expected that. this isn't a block buster type movie nor was it trying to be.
