You can't ever tell for sure with trailers of course as those making them do have a tednancy to try and sell everything the same way but to be it does look somewhat disappointingly conventional. Doesnt look bad at all just much more of a standard thriller/action film than the original was.

New BLADE RUNNER 2049 Short Film Reveals What Happened in 2036

Collider is happy to exclusively premiere a Blade Runner 2049 prequel short film “in-world” piece that explains what happened in the world of Blade Runner between the first movie, set in 2019, and this sequel, set in 2049. The short film "Nexus: 2036" takes place in the year 2036 and revolves around Jared Leto’s character, Niander Wallace. In this short, directed by Luke Scott (Morgan), Wallace introduces a new line of “perfected” replicants called the Nexus 9, seeking to get the prohibition on replicants repealed. This no doubt has serious ramifications that will be crucial to the plot of Blade Runner 2049.

This “in-world” piece is one of three short films that will debut ahead of Blade Runner 2049, which will further flesh out the Blade Runner universe with even more information. In 2023, government authorities legislated an indefinite “prohibition” on replicant production, as a year prior a massive EMP detonated on the West Coast and is pinned on Replicants. So in this Wallace piece, we’ll see the beginnings of the new Replicants that are created after the prohibition is lifted.

Flesh out the blade runner universe eh

Well Blade Runner is set in the Alien Universe so how exactly is that going to work

That was a cool scene. Can't wait for this!

this movie is gonna be fuckin amazing I CAN JUST FEEL IT RIGHT DOWN TO MY CORE <20>

seriously everything so far captures the feel of the original brilliantly

Pretty cool short. I like the idea of filling in the gaps between the two films.

They did something similar for Independence Day: Resurgence, but in the form of a book. I read it and thought it was cool. Too bad ID:R ended up sucking a huge horse cock.

Ridley Scott's involved in this though. Let's hope this short isn't all of the character development that should have been in the actual movie.

I believe you get a tax break if you cast Benedict Wong in a sci fi film. ;)

Does tend to go along with my expectations of the film itself as likely being more of a thriller than the atmospheric character piece of the original.

First Clip from BLADE RUNNER 2049 Released

Denis Villeneuve was on Russian TV and said while original Blade Runner were inspired by Chinese and Japanese culture Blade Runner 2049 is inspired by Eastern Europe and Russia. He said that there will be references (to Russia, if I understand it right) in fashion, some words and names of corporations.
Sorry if he already mentioned it in other interviews.
