All these gimmicky leagues but the one I really have been wanting to see for years is a striking league that is pretty much just MMA without the grappling. It would allow 8 point striking with bare feet and MMA gloves.

The dream would be that it would draw talent from kickboxing, MMA, boxing and be a meeting ground between them all, and take striking as overall art to the next level as the boxers learn to deal with leg strikes and small gloves, the kickboxers bring up their hands and deal with small gloves, and the MMA fighters bring up their overall skill, which is something that isn't happening right now. I think prime Conor would've done very well in a league like this.

The small gloves are just there to protect the hands and allow the fighters to punch harder, but to be less of an artificial impediment than big gloves to developing "real" unarmed/raw striking skill.

The problem with a league like this though is that it would require a lot more money and talent than Ice or Slap Fights.

Sound like Karate Combat might be a decent org for you to follow, ever gave it a shot?
There's very minmal grappling, just enough so that the ref isn't constantly separating the 2 dudes at every little clinch like in boxing/kickboxing.
You can only spend 5 seconds on the ground, after that you have to get up.
(From what I've seen it's mainly used when you knock someone down, you can punch him on the ground a few times before having to stop)

The roster is getting better & better, we got Bas Rutten, GSP, Stephen Thompson (and even Lyoto Machida a couple times) in the commentary booth, the production value is pretty good for a small org (don't know if they still do it, but they used to put Bas' talents as an entertainer to good use in youtube skits that were half comedy/half karate stuff), the pits/arena is well thought-out...

I treat it like BKFC, as in I don't watch every card (far from it), but when there are some promising match-ups then it's always a fun time in the Sherdog PBP thread.

Just imagining a dude doing a wheel kick and decapitating his opponent
Yeah, "Ichi the Killer" was also the first thing that came to mind <6>

Dude I totally get you. I’ve never enjoyed skates of any kind. Not that I’m uncoordinated, just that’s a totally different coordination.. one I never saw the benefit of due to very limited access
I was not good at any sport I tried except hockey for some reason. No idea how or why because I sucked at basketball, soccer and baseball but almost from the first time I was on the ice, I seemed to figure it out fast. Maybe human cockfighting a fat father of 3 on ice is for you!
Obviously no need to tell you... but scrapping on skates is way, way tougher than it looks.

My buddy's nephew played on the Mooseheads at the same time as Marchand. I hope you smacked Brad around a bit, dude's an asshole. I know Ryan was drafted by the Rangers, but never cracked the roster. Ended up trading his hockey skills for a free SMU education though.

This ought to be entertaining while it lasts.
Sounds like a fair trade to me. Canadian university hockey is massively underrated too. I took my education straight to the oil patch after my hockey “career” ended. I’m jealous of anyone who got to play in Montreal or Halifax. I dreamed of playing for the mooseheads since I was a child.

But yeah, I played against Marchand but I honestly don’t remember him much. It’s funny he’s actually a much better pro than he was in junior. He was a good player but wasn’t a star and didn’t stand out then. There’s tons of guys who were better in junior who are on some construction site somewhere. Surprised to see him have the career he had, especially being a small guy. Its so hard to tell who’s going to be a superstar. If anything, that made me respect him more because he worked his bag off and proved a lot of people wrong.

"This groundbreaking partnership brings together two fiercely competitive disciplines—combat sports and ice hockey—to form BKFC Ice Wars, a thrilling new league that combines the best of both worlds. As demand for high-adrenaline, innovative fighting formats continues to grow worldwide, BKFC Ice Wars will deliver a unique and electrifying spectacle that pushes the boundaries of traditional competition.”

BKFC helped make bare-knuckle fighting a mainstream sport and now the promotion aims to take hockey fights to the next level with the launch of BKFC Ice Wars.

Each bout shall be at least three (3) rounds with a maximum of five (5) rounds. Each round shall be no more than ninety (90) seconds in length, with one (1) minute rest periods between rounds.

BKFC Ice Wars set for launch in June featuring ‘legal, sanctioned and regulated hockey fights.

- Do not think I will watch it as have watched before, without pro fighters just pro ice hockey players. Is BKFC getting desperate ?

Good Lord. They should just bring in a 1500 Ibs Polar Bear and fight one on one against it on the ice, that would be more fun to watch. whoever lasts longer than 40 seconds gets a free BKFC t-shirt of Ben Rothwell
