BJJ Guys, What's Your Lineage?

I suppose in Judo I should mention:

Jigoro Kano -> Mifune -> Takahiko Ishikawa -> John Hampton -> me

interesting to see the different ppl that have Carlos, others Helio and others Maeda as the root of their lineage. Do you go by what your instructor believes?? your association? or do you go with who you think??

Maeda > Carlos Gracie Sr. > Carlson Gracie > Marcus Soares > Conan & Marcelo Silveira > Rodrigo 'Baga' Ramos > Me

Mitsuyo Maeda > Carlos Gracie > Carlson Gracie > Murilo Bustamante > Marcelo Perdomo: Blue Belt

... Carlos Gracie Jr. > Ricardo Testai: Purple Belt

Mitsuyo Maeda → Carlos Gracie, Sr. → Helio Gracie → Rolls Gracie → Romero Cavalcanti → Rodrigo Medeiros → Jeff Messina → Jonny Blaylock (me - white belt)

For me, Maeda taught the Gracie brothers Judo which they modified and made their own, so BJJ, to me, starts with the Gracie brothers and therefore I put Helio as the root of my lineage.

Carlos Gracie > Carlson Gracie > Ricardo Liborio > Din Thomas > Myself

Its been done to death and most people put in their signatures (I think bc they think people will respect their opinions more....I dunno)

Orrrr maybe because they proudly claim their team, coach, and training!?

This was a good question to be honest. I "think" my instructor starts his with Carlos. I start with Carlos because I believe this is where BJJ started, just my personal opinion.

I was actually Marcelo's second blue belt and first blue belt when he started teaching on his own.

Dang! You go WAY back my friend. Did you train at the spot on Anaheim (fitness impact gym) or were you with him when he was teaching under Francisco Bueno?

If Rorion is to be believed, then Helio is the one that transformed Judo into BJJ.

Obviously I first taught Medea, he then gave a tidbit of knowledge to Helio, then a few generations later we get all you guys.... Or, just check my sig...lol
