Apologies if this post has been done before, but I'm always fascinated to learn about the lineages of BJJ players.

Darren "Rasher" O'Sullivan>>>>>>Me

He's the head coach of my local MMA club,no formal BJJ training he's watched every MMA event since TUF6, and went to a 3 day Royce Gracie seminar

I've trained under various people for various amounts of times, some awarding me belts/stripes, some not. Hard to say.

I've trained a few places, but my main lineage wherein I've learned the bulk of my BJJ is:

Helio Gracie-> Francisco Mansur -> Marcelo Ferreira (7th degree out of Kioto Academy in Rio) ->
Dax Razzano (1st degree BB in Bloomington, IN) -> me.

Bruce Shepherd, a 4th degree BB out of Evansville IN could be in there as well as Dax, my direct instructor, spent a lot of time training with him, though Marcelo awarded all the belts.

Its been done to death and most people put in their signatures (I think bc they think people will respect their opinions more....I dunno) but heres mine from the beginning

Mitsuyo Maeda > Carlos Gracie Sr. > Carlos Gracie Junior > Renzo Gracie/Rodrigo Gracie > Matt Serra > Joe Scarola

Augusto Ferrari --> Me (brown belt).

Though I only train with him a few months a year, because he travels the world teaching.

he fought at ADCC this year. He was the only guy who didn't get tapped by Lister and he has a win over Andre Galvao in gi competition.

I cant tell i have trained under different guys who have trained under different guys, establishing a lineage would be a disservice to any of them.

If we go strictly, all the things i "learned" in my first year and a half of BJJ were things i already knew from judo, the BJJ specifics i picked up were from guys that went to seminars and had trained in other places.

Currently i am in a competitive school so i am learning a good bunch of new stuff, BJJ specific, so i could say that its "my BJJ lineage" but i am also learning a lot from a teammate who went to Brazil and got graded there and wears their patches, i learned a lot from him as he gave me some "privates".

Top put it simply

Australopithecus afarensis > Homo habilis > Homo erectus > Homo antecessor > Thog the caveman > crapload of guys > me.

Carlson Sr. --> Liborio --> Eduardo 'Teta' Rios --> Yours Truly (blue).

Chuck Norris > The Greeks > Jesus > King Arthur > The last Samurai > Jigoro Kano > Maeda > Carlos Gracie > Helio > etc > etc > etc > Me

Helio Gracie>Rickson Gracie>Fabio Santos>Alex Brandao>Me

I train under Alex and Fabio, but I've gotten all my belts from Alex.

Carlos Gracie Sr. >> Carlos Gracie Jr. >> Alexandre Soca (4th deg. BB)>> me (purple).

My coach is only purple belt but my lineage looks like this:

Helio Gracie -> Rolls Gracie -> Romero Cavalcanti -> Fabio Gurgel -> Demian Maia -> Rafael Domingos (brown belt) -> my coach (purple belt) -> me (white belt)

Our club is pretty small and new so we get our promotions from visiting higher level guys such as Rafael Domingos who comes a couple of times a year to hold seminars.

My lineage is in my sig so f12ers will respect TEH grapplez I speak of. This is also why I squeeze ma abz during TEH grapplez, for respect!

Doesnt really matter where you come from, it's how you roll!

matt barvo -> sivlerd -> me (15 degree black belt)
