BJJ and Strength training on the same day?

tried this for a little bit and it sucks, BJJ pm class and then lift after, hard to sleep after especially if u have to get up early, I dunno if it would be smart to go for PRs as u might be injured easily being in an already tired state

I just do a 2 day split which im able to hit most weeks, goin on a sunday and another day in the week where I cant make the evening class, that way I can roll 2-4 times a week and lift maybe 2 a week

comboing it sucks but if no other option train safe and lighter than u usually would if fully rested

What about the reverse option: lift first, then BJJ.

Obviously, I'd be lifting well within my limits. I wouldn't be trying to hit any PR's.

Anyone done this? Sometimes it's difficult due to work etc for me to find separate days for BJJ and weights. While it's far from ideal, I was thinking of doing a BJJ class, then lifting afterwards; the gym and the dojo are literally just across the road from each other.

I always liked the 6-hour rule, which I separate my lifting and conditioning by 6 hours because lifting activates mTOR and conditioning stimulates AMPK, which those two signalling mechanisms mix as well as oil and water. Matt Wenning has had a lot of success with the U.S. Rangers by having they lift then run 6 hours later. I think this is the video that has him discussing the 6-hour rule, but he is right by separating the two different modalities of exercise -->

Here is another good video. This PhD studied under the legend Dr. Stone -->

I lift m/w/f at 5:30am with tactical barbell program and do bjj and striking Monday-Saturday from 6-9. I took a break from mma from January to June and had the best strength gains of my life by far using starting strength then hlm, but once I started training again I just couldn’t recover and lost strength pretty drastically. It’s hard as fuck honestly but I see people do it.

On lifting days I always like to train technique. My good buddy Bobby Hughes who teaches for Robson Moura was really really really really big on performing a few techniques over and over and over and over. He was a beast!

Starting Strength is great, but it only lasts a short time! The UFC gym publication shows that they are really big on DUP periodization. However, I am a block periodization guy like this -->

Some prefer DUP and some prefer Block, whichever works best for you!

Yea starting strength only lasts a short time, the hlm is a common intermediate routine the starting strength guys recommend other than Texas method. It works really well actually, but is a real bitch when pairing with any other training. I’m new to periodization and still am not sure how much I’m liking the results honestly. Again I’m getting killed by not eating enough (new dietary issues causing this) and training bjj and striking so much.

The block periodization seems interesting and definitely more advanced than someone my strength level would need, but I could see more advanced lifters needing something if the sort

The most important thing is to have a certified strength & conditioning specialist CSCS working with you! I spent many many many many years training WRONG! My undergrad degree with not exercise physiology, but after a semester of my MSc in performance physiology, I said "OMG I trained like a moron for years!" Yeah, I listened to fighters who were on "stuff" for advice on how to strength train and my body didn't exactly respond.
