Bigger PPV? Jones-Cormier or Jones-Gustafson?

Silva-Sonnen II and Silva-Weidman II showed how well rematches do when guys are competitive (and can beat) the division's greatest champion of all time.

Difference being, people actually watched the first Silva-Sonnen and Silva-Weidman fights.

Both Silva fights did 500k+ views

Jones-Gus barely broke 300k.

Both are big fights, and we think it's Cormier now because that's the fight and UFC's done everything to hype this one—and they've done well in all capacities.

No one cares about Gus in North America except hardcore fans who stream PPVs, so Cormier.

People are warming up to Gus lately.

The fight vs Cormier is already epic to me because of an Olympic wrestler vs junior college champ.

Could there be a bigger distance in wrestling skill? Among champion wrestlers that is.

Idk, name-brand-wise, DC wins only because of the damned Incredulous thread. Gus is on par if we're talking fight cred...

We're all excited for both fights, but all the attention really came because of the shit talking and the press conference fight.

Had Gustafsson and Jones got in a dust up on stage, the reaction and hype would be all the same

I would have said the rematch before the brawl.

I'm pretty sure that tons of people have watched Jones vs. Gustafsson by now though. It's not like Gustafsson made the new EA game cover (and beat out GSP), their fight won Fight of the Year, or their fight was voted the 'Greatest Fight Of All Time' by fans or anything.

Fans Vote Gustafsson Versus Jones

Jones-Cormier. Legit bad blood.

the video of the stare down fight and ensuing beef makes this answer pretty obvious

Cormier is an american olympic wrestler. The fight is getting a decent amount of coverage in North America. They have legit bad blood and a "brawl" to hype the fight up...both fighters are also undefeated.

Gus is some guy from Sweden who already lost to Jones in a fight that is only controversial among hardcore fans.

Its not even close, the amount of delusion from some posters ITT is kinda funny.

The green belt above me made me laugh. All of the polls say that he's wrong and many of those people aren't even hardcore fans.

That 'beef' between Jones and DC has all been forgotten about. In fact, people were laughing at how desperate the UFC was to air it on their last PPV, it was seriously cringeworthy. The Jones-Gustafsson fight speaks for itself, Gustafsson didn't need to shove him and get into a brawl in front of the media with Jones to create some buzz, he/they did it with their actual fighting in the cage. That "brawl" was very pointless and nothing actually came of it, just Jones swinging like a girl and dudes swarming DC and getting him down to the ground.

Lame. The Jones-Gustafsson rematch will easily outsell Jones-Cormier in PPV buys. I'll even bet on it. It's common fuckin sense really.

I think after the buildup to Jones-Cormier it will be one of the biggest PPVs yet....these guys really don't like each other....

Jones vs Cormier for sure. That scuffle was huge for marketing the fight. And to all of us MMA fans we all know that neither Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier have ever lost an MMA fight. These are two of the best in the sport, neither has lost ever and they are about to collide. One man loses his 0 and the other man becomes the Champion. If Jon Jones wins he becomes the GOAT. If Cormier wins he will destroy the myth of Jon Jones and instantly become talked about as the next GOAT. If Cormier wins he gets into the Fedor, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo conversation. If Cormier wins he and his buddy Cain Velasquez are the scariest two motherfuckers on the planet and they train together.

DC is the permanent co-host for UFC Tonight on Fox Sports. Hes much more visible and a known commodity than Gus is. It also helps that hes an undefeated HW. And the bad blood between him and Jones seems to be legit and not just hyping up a fight. I think the DC PPV will easily surpass Jones/Gus 2.

You people are putting way too much stock into a scuffle that happened months ago, of which nothing of substance came from. DC is more well known than Gustafsson is? No. When he lands the cover of EA Sports' UFC 2015, let me know. Gustafsson has already done this. Their fight won Fight of the Year and was voted by fans as literally the GREATEST fight of all time. Then, there's the lack of racial diversity in a Jones-DC match-up too. A concept known as 'racial identification' is present in an African vs. Caucasian fight (or any other different race), and since DC and Jones are both black, they'll only be identified mostly with blacks. That's a scientific fact, actually. More Caucasian/white people watch MMA and the UFC than any other race, and last I checked, Gustafsson is white. This is a cold, hard fact.

Just because Cormier is a former Olympian (and captain of his team at that) doesn't mean that people will know who he is, or even care much about his background. Did you know of DC when he was an Olympic freestyle wrestler? Most people didn't know who he was at the time, and many people simply didn't care (and still don't). There are literally tons of olympians from all kinds of sports and nobody can possibly remember every single one, not to mention that DC also never medaled in wrestling at the Olympic games.

Also, being "undefeated" doesn't mean as much as you think, not to mention that technically Jones is not undefeated anyway. DC also moved down from a very shallow division in talent depth and is pretty unproven at LHW apart from beating Hendo (who is way past his prime by now) so there's that too. And even the hardcore fans will know that Henderson was off his TRT when DC beat him.

I was rooting for Jones to beat DC but now I'm going for DC.

Jones and Gus can have their rematch after they both lose.
