Big Dead Bodybuilders

What's funny is nowadays if someone has a physique anywhere close to Reeves everyone on Sherdog swears they are roided to the gills.

Well the ease of access to steroids has made it hard to tell. While "genetics" is the lazy way for users to exonerate themselves, there are genetically gifted people that can achieve great physiques naturally. The problem is that they should be very rare but the physiques are becoming more and more frequent.

So when you see a kid like Jeff Seid, who at 18 years old was basically the equivalent comparable to Frank Zane you have to ask: Is he really a pure genetic freak benefiting from decades of improved training principles, facilities, food...or is he a guy with better than average genetics that starting using early to make a career.

Odds are in the latter but the former is not impossible.

holy shit I didn't realize Nasser died last year. feels......

There was a pic I saw of Jay Cutler. He's shrunk a lot since retiring and actually looks more aesthetically pleasing to me. I always thought he was waaay too bloated.

Was it this one?

Lol, yeah for me too. I used to take ephedrine in the pill brand "up your gas", was very strong. I also would drink the ripped fuel drinks and at one time they even came out with an extra strong version.

Like many, I suffered a scary episode while on ephedrine - in one second half my body went numb and I lost my balance, thought I had a stroke but thankfully didn't and I recovered. Never took it again. Another friend of mine passed out while on it and fell, smashing his head into the bathtub.

I wish that stuff had been safer because I really liked it.

So did I. My favorite brand was Ripped Fuel. I had an episode while swimming some laps after lifting during which I thought my heart was going to explode.

Here's what really sucks. A friend of mine who's a physician recently told me how they're starting to link ephedrine use back in the 90's with heart failure today. They're even finding a lot of examples of people who were young and only used it for a short time. Scary.

My favorite BB back in the day was Greg Kovacs 6'5 400lbs of non fat muscle lol .don't know if he's still around but the man was a monsta.

Back around '98 or '99, I was working out a small, local gym. It was a place that catered to bodybuilders and power lifters and I was just a scrawny high school kid trying to bulk up. I didn't realize the significance of the gym I had chosen. One day I'm there lifting, and none other than Greg Kovacs walks in. I swear, I've never seen anything like him and I'll never see anything like him gain. 400 lbs of muscle on a 6'5 frame, 25" arms—it was astonishing. The whole place stopped moving when he walked in.

He was there with a woman (probably his girlfriend) who couldn't have been more than 110 lbs. She had to help him take off his sweat shirt and she spotted him. I can't remember all the lifts he did, but I remember this. He worked his way up to four plates on each side of the incline bench press. He proceeded to do 3-4 sets of 12-15 very slow, very controlled reps of incline, all the with this tiny woman spotting him. It was the greatest display of human power I've ever seen.

i like working out, but imo there are much more fun ways to destroy your body then massive steroid use.

Man this thread is both nostalgic and depressing. use to read FLEX, and Muscle and fitness all the time back in the day with those guys

Same here, I have a stack old magazines from the late 90's somewhere around my house.

I was going off the article. I wonder how many inaccuracies are in it..im sure a ton.

I have pics with shawn ray, coleman, priest and a couple other guys from around 1994 or so. dudes are so short but as wide as a fridge. man all my flex magazines probably equal a ton. I should probably recycle them.

did horny goat weed ever work for any of you guys ITT? I tried it a couple times didn't really feel a difference.

Aesthetically, I've always considered early Flex Wheeler (1989-1993) to be the GOAT.

I'll also give a shout out to another late-80s/early-90s guy who, as opposed to Flex, seems to have been forgotten: Gary Strydom.

Both Flex and Strydom are like the end of the line for that old school size/shredded combo. Once Lee Haney and Dorian Yates showed up, size became king and now everybody is insanely massive. And that's not to say that I don't love the later BB greats like Ronnie and Jay, but I do think that there's something to be said for that feeling, drugs or no drugs, of looking at someone (like Flex) and thinking it's the pinnacle of human musculature and then looking at someone else (like Ronnie) and wondering if he's even human

I never really noticed a difference with any of those so called "natural" test boosters. With that being said, stinging nettle has been observed in a controlled studies to increase endogenous testosterone by up to 50%. It is also dirt cheap and can be purchased in bulk at most health food stores (in loose leaf form - you can cap it or brew it into a tea).

Even if that 50% increase is true though, the materiality of going from 50mg of test a week to 75mg of test a week is negligible.

I barely notice test unless I am running 250mg, and even then, it is more of a libido boost than real mass gains.

If I could look like any bodybuilder, it would be either Levrone (for the aesthetic + freak factor) or Bob Paris (if he wasn't gay, I'm reasonably sure he could have gotten any woman he wanted)

That link made me feel good about my very modest, all-natural gains.

Anyway, Lazar Angelov has the ideal physique, imo.
