Maybe you should find more satisfaction in the micro results. Macro results generally take a lot longer, so in the meanwhile appreciate the little things, IMO. Also, you sometimes won't even know how large of an impact the small things will have on a person or a community.

But without going into the specifics, I think empathy is exactly the way to help you with your problem of these ignorant or hateful people. Mind you, empathy is not the same as compassion, although they often are tied. You need to understand where these sentiments come from and why they may increase, and I don't mean finding a simple scape goat (like Trump is for many people, or now Musk too). Just really learn to understand where they are coming from, it makes it easier to deal with it, in my experience.
