I'm not criticizing free trial classes. I'm not saying free rape prevention seminars are bad. Those are great things and good for business. Everyone does that, no big deal.

However, he used the website to promote a seminar to cover up and manipulate search results to cover his ass and protect his business. Lloyd used the tragedy of his students and others for his gain. He even admits to this in his response that this was in bad taste so back off the crusade there buddy.

Here is another way to look at it because you can't seem get past the word "free". 100 women show up to this free seminar and maybe 10 women enjoyed it so much they decide to join Lloyd's gym. They sign a 6 month contract because they want to learn self defense. Average maybe $125 a month. Lloyd just made $7,500 because of this free seminar.

Normally there is nothing wrong with it and it isn't a scummy business practice. But if you don't see that with the situation surrounding this free seminar made it not appropriate then I don't really have anything else to say to you further.

Just because the seminar says free doesn't mean Lloyd isn't profiting from it. While not illegal, it is classless, insensitive and morally corrupt. You're entitled to disagree about whether it is moral or not, that is really up to you. However, don't act like Lloyd wasn't opportunistic, using this situation for his benefit, both from a public relations and financial perspective.

Unless he's going for the "closest thing to reality" approach, it's in poor taste.
