please defend the $5k ballers seminar. is that just "everyone's got a right to make a buck?"

Not speaking about Lloyd but there are plenty of seminar types who make their living doing this. There are big boy clubs, big baller clubs, like for like. It comes down to the theory that like mimics like for ideas. Like minded Jiu-Jitsu champions train with those who want to be champions. People who are rich people who are not want to see what they do to follow the leader to mimic that success. Plenty of this out there some of it is legit some of it is bogus, Master Lloyd is legit.

I got respect for the guy for coming out in the open about this, but I can't help feel he's a little naive and kin of caused his own misfortune. If Lloyd asked me to pay him 35k a year for 'consultation' I would've laughed in his goddamn face.

that's the dividing line here and that's why some won't "let it go."

some of us think it's not ok to prey on people's hopes in this way, whether they were naive or not. personally I think anyone involved in any of these schemes is pathetically naive. nobody should ever fall for these lies, but that doesn't remove the blame from the liar.

I guess it comes down to where you fall on the psychopathy scale. how much human predation is acceptable?

A while back the beta academy and Nakapan Phungephorn left our association.
The reasons he gave to me in writing at that time I felt were less than "genuine, based on information that I knew" ...
But I was willing to keep it classy...
Until his defamatory, misleading and self serving
statements told to the martial arts community yesterday...

It's become clear that nakapan and 2-3 other marginally visibile members of the martial arts community and 1 no body have chosen to take the horrific events of new years eve and capitalize on them for their own personal gain.
The shame isn't on me...
the shame is on you.

Hidden in their "we are the good guys charade"
is the truly disgusting and I feel bad for the people

Here is what Nakapan sent me the day he left my association...

So this GROWN man who now calls me a "bully" and his co-horts (you know who you are)

IN his WITHDRAWAL letter the grown man who I've "allegedly bullied"

wants to know "next steps" regarding our doing business...

and when I wouldn't play ball with him he decided to go try
compete against me with his own coaching consulting companies did his two new buddies...

They throw around big words like "honor" "respect" "doing the right thing"

Fowler left Lloyd on good terms and I haven't heard him ever say anything bad about Lloyd. The original reason given was that financially flying from Hawaii to Maryland was alot more time consuming and costly than to Atos in San Diego, especially with the baby on the way.

I listened to your Open Mat Mix Tape interview with Fowler and Fowler did not address his departure from Lloyd and the interviewer did not bring up Lloyd's name which was a little disappointing. That is unless I missed something in the interview which is slightly possible since I had to listen to it in two sittings.

I think Mike is much happier with the Mendes Brothers and Andre now. Their values line up really well. Mike will be back on for another episode which will be released in a few weeks. That mixtape will be about the role of jiu jitsu in the community.

The reason I didn't bring up lloyd by name is for a few reasons. First I didn't want to make a series about tearing lloyd down, that isn't our job or intent. We try to operate on a "promote what you love rather instead of bashing what you hate" point of view. I wouldn't want the positive messages our guests made to be swallowed up by people accusing us or our guests as attacking lloyd. I also don't want to use OpenMatRadio as a platform for promoting lloyd OR restricting these issues to just lloyd. This is similar to how Ryan approached his letter to the community. The issues brought up by these various scandals go beyond lloyd irvin himself. There are a lot of people who have had experiences with coaches that have not acted professionally, morally or ethically and have nothing to do with lloyd or TLI. To turn it into a lloyd irvin attack show does nobody any good. We're trying to get to bigger issues across disciplines, teams, sports etc. Our intent is not to attack any person but rather provide alternative/positive ideas, messages and role models to our community. lloyd does an amazing job of getting his messages and values out to the public. We are just doing our part to show that there are alternative ways of thinking. It's up to each individual listener to decide what they believe is right.

We try our best to be impartial on the show and not interject our personal feelings into the discussion. Sometimes we're good about that and other times we could be better. We need to get some lessons from Tim and the InsideBJJ crew!

i'm actually one of the few that gave LI the benefit of the doubt and didn't see the need to crucify him over the actions of 2 grown men just b/c they trained at his gym/with his team. Then his past started resurfacing and i still was like, well the courts didn't find him guilty, it sounded like a shady situation anyway and if nothing has happened since then, I'll cut the guy a break and say he got caught in a terrible situation, but has made the changes to right his path.

However I think he's handled things atrociously and it's pretty obvious the flood gates have been opened and there's probably gonna be a letter like Nakapans every few weeks.

Well said. At this point it's open season. Anybody with a reason to distance themselves and/or air dirty laundry is going to do so. And I don't really think there's anything wrong with that, as long as we're sticking to the facts and not falling into conjecture.

This stuff with Nak & Ryan isn't 20 years ago, it's recent. And it's not about what he did at a drunken party in college, it's about how he conducts his business today. To me, that's a lot more relevant than the 1989 stuff ever was.

Just how close are you to him?

I've always said my association is none of your business. I then came out and said I support TLI and Master Lloyd which is still true, I am not paid or endorsed by them in any way and English is not my language and I don't speak German which I have also said before, again none of your business.
