i just gave the opinion on the fact that you called rory unsuccesful.
on sherdog only being the goat can be considered succesful when most mma guys dont even make it in the ufc lol
you are arguing multiple different things that you can't keep straight. In the other thread your argument was that khabib is specifically a freestyle wrestler. He's not, he's a grappler who primarily trained in sambo and has no actual freestyle/international competition records. So yes people are using him as having a wrestling/grappling background, but he is not a freestyle wrestler.
Cejudo spent the nearly all of his life wrestling folkstyle, he didn't transition to freestyle until after highschool, he trained freestyle full time for only 2 years from 2006-2008, he won golds in '08 then retired from wrestling. If you actually ever watch his freestyle matches, he wrestlers in a nearly pure folkstyle manner with collar ties and basic single shots, he never goes upper body or looks for throws.
Stipe, Jones, Usman, and Henry are all elite folkstyle wrestlers.
Nah, dude. Karelin, one of the most beastly wrestlers of all time, would definitely lose to a guy in Walmart basketball shorts who gasses in seconds from throwing sloppy haymakers.
Looks like Mescaline Dreams' delusions of ko'ing Leben isn't the worst thing a Sherdog poster has claimed.
LMAO please tell me that a sherdogger didnt claim they could KO Leben who had one of the best chins going? Hahaha. this fucking forum is hilarious. In one week I've read someone say they hit 2-3 times harder than Costa and they are only 10 pounds heavier and that they could beat him in 1 minute, this OP claims he could beat Karelin, and another guy claims he could KO Leben? ROFL Sherdog gunna' Sherdog
the sport is evolving, but that doesn't mean a wrestling base as the optimal starting point for a mma fighter is over and done with forever. The sport is evolving
UFC and other American mma promotions are doing everything in their power to advantage the American wrestler because they want "all american champs" so they can sell swag to the fake wrestling NASCAR fanboys [smart business]
Wrestlers have lots of terrible habits that leave them vulnerable to good knee artists and the best submission guys
the most accomplished wrestlers are NEVER gonna be that good in mma and just get "fluffed" up for the slack jawed fanboys
These athletes have spent so many years learning to perfect their "sport grappling" they are ultra specialists
[just like SPORT BJJ guys]
profit minded gym owners push the fallacy that training in 5 different martial arts / sports = the ultimate mix for MMA
The fact IS specialists are getting pushed out of MMA
Wrestlers days are numbered
Just like the BJJ days of yore...lol
wonder when we will actually have MMA training in the USA
NOT
Muay thai + BJJ + wrestling = MMA
there are a lot of wrestlers who are simply holding on the the underbelly of MMA as their sport is slowly absorbed
desperately clinging on to MMA for relavance
the bad news is....
the ride is gonna get tougher!!!
heres a look at our club 10+ years after founding in our last days at the community center
I am working with my old friend Andrew [one of our members from the ol' kickboxing days]
the sport is evolving, but that doesn't mean a wrestling base as the optimal starting point for a mma fighter is over and done with forever.
i think it will come and go in waves/cycles.
it's no secret that a lot of the champs in MMA had wrestling as a base to build on. DC, Khabib, Usman, Cejudo, etc.
but, we've also seen champions with a striking base, like Anderson Silva, Joanna, Conor McGregor, Adesanya.
wrestling days aren't numbered any more than strikers days are numbered.
it will probably continue to shift back and forth
This is the same derp that you derpers have been derping since the derping of derp.
First off--The most fundamental changes to the sport of MMA have all disadvantaged wrestlers more than other disciplines. Imagine an MMA fight with
1) No Gloves
2) No time limits
3) No rounds
Without those changes, 80% of MMA fights would be 29 minute grapple fucks where the wrestler humped whomever into oblivion. The 12 fights on the card would take a weekend to finish instead of 4-5 hours and they would probably get watched by about 9 people.
Even with those changes, wrestlers still disproportionately hold the titles and elite spots. There will always be champions and top fighters from other disciplines of course. But wrestling will continue to produce more of the top fighters and champs for the foreseeable future. The 'new breed' experiment has been over for a while now.
meanwhile you [with zero verifiable background] tells us we are all wrong
anybody could beat Karelin in MMA
he is terrible at mma BECAUSE HES THE BEST wrestler in the world!!!
all the BEST WRESTLERS would lose in MMA because they are JUST WRESTLERS....THEY NEVER CROSS TRAINED ENOUGH BECAUSE they focused on wrestling
THATS WHY THEY ARE THE BEST WRESTLERS IN THE WORLD....
No knees on the ground either buddy, imagine wrestlers like Khabib pinning people down and Kneeing them in the face.. im sure you said this earlier in the thread but just repeating as its something that saves alot of fighters alot of pain when they are not getting Knee'd and headbutted when pinned down
if you're talking about specialists as in guys like Royce Gracie who knew BJJ and absolutely nothing else, then i agree. You have an excellent point however the days of ANY SPECIALISTS will disappear and we will have only MMA from the ground up
Look at any "new" sport
its participants will always be from other sports that were previously established
as rugby takes off in the states people will one day say football is the best base for rugby because most of the best rugby players will be from football backgrounds
Say that to an Australian and they will call you and Idiot because RUGBY IS THE BEST BASE FOR RUGBY, Everybody knows that!
We just dont have many pure rugby athletes in the states so they will be mostly football players until the sport matures
"Anybody could beat Karelin in MMA"
But not you, you delusional bum, he would seriously rip your head off, hes got freak of nature like strength.
I myself would bounce your head clean off the canvas, never mind a real legit pro fighter or a monster like Karelin
LMAO please tell me that a sherdogger didnt claim they could KO Leben who had one of the best chins going? Hahaha. this fucking forum is hilarious. This OP claims he could beat Karelin, and another guy claims he could KO Leben? ROFL Sherdog gunna' Sherdog
if you're talking about specialists as in guys like Royce Gracie who knew BJJ and absolutely nothing else, then i agree.
these days you have to know at least something about everything.
still, a lot of fighters these days have expertise in one area while having a basic set of skills in the other areas.
because there's wrestling programs in high school and wrestling scholarships in college? How come there isn't a wrestling gym in every town in America like BJJ?
