Clubber knocked Rocky out in 2 rounds. No one else finished him.

Clubber killed Mickey through sheer terror.

Rocky had to become an entirely different person to beat him. No other opponent changed him in any way.

A Rocky who was unmotivated, under trained, wasn't taking the fight seriously, was mentally fucked and panicking over Mickey, AND was deathly intimidated by Clubber. For the rematch, Apollo taught him some new skills, but Rocky was fully and properly trained, fully motivated with laser focus, and was no longer terrified of Clubber. Big difference. Under those circumstances he beat Clubber in like 3 rounds.

I wish there was a tournament between all these guys. Still think Apollo in his prime comes out on top. Clubber vs Drago would be awesome, hell Clubber vs Tommy would be great too.

A lot of great fight combos but no question Drago comes out on top and clears. Not only did the film imply it, but even Stallone stated that the character was meant to be his ultimate, most foremidable opponent.

It's not like Rocky was going on cocaine benders: his only problem was that he got used to silk pajamas. He literally had to become an entirely different boxer to beat Clubber. Saying Creed taught him "a few skills" really sells short how much Creed had to transform him.

Since Rocky was inspired by Muhamad Ali vs Chuck Wepner, it's easy to look at it through Ali's career. Drago is like Foreman and Clubber is like Frazier: Drago was the most feared and may have even beat Clubber, but Clubber is the most dangerous one to Rocky. It's like Ali always said: Frazier is the fighter that almost killed him in the ring. Not Foreman or Norton or anyone else who hurt him. Frazier was the one opponent that was one round away from Ali dying in the ring.

That intimidation factor is part of what makes a good antagonist though. Weathers was too likable, Lang didn't really scare me. Drago was legit terrifying. Those montage scenes of him training, the savage murder of Creed etc. Lang can't really compete with that imo.

Brb torrenting the entire rocky series to watch today.

May motivate me to hit the heavy bag and skip rope a bit later on between movies.

Drago. He had a mean evil streak. He killed Apollo, and didn't give a shit. He was superhuman, with that 1800+ psi punch and steroid body. His bitch wife even smiled when Apollo was hit with that coupe de grace.

Every Rocky movie mostly mirrors things we have seen in real life.

Rocky - A boxer's first opportunity at the title (e.g., Ken Norton vs. Muhammad Ali I)
Rocky II - A boxer's rematch for a title (e.g., Ken Norton vs. Muhammad Ali II)
Rocky III - A champion who has become complacent (e.g., Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali I)
Rocky IV - A champion's ultimate test (e.g., George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali)
Rocky V - A champion who retires and attempts to pass on his skills (e.g., Lennox Lewis boxing academy)
Rocky Balboa - A champion's late life comeback (e.g., George Foreman vs. Steve Zouski)

Ivan Drago, because he was the strongest Rocky opponent. Mason Dixon and Tommy Gunn (although the worst person and the only bad person in Rocky saga... Clubber and Ivan weren't bad, they were just what they were, Mason Dixon just wasn't mature... while Tommy was just pathetic) are not worth mentioning.

Was Drago disgraced or was he still a national hero because of his pedigree and the fact that he had a throw down war with Rocky?

If you read Rocky The Ultimate Guide, it said that Drago fought for HW title (and won it) after 1991 and that Drago retired Tommy Gunn. Drago retired with only one loss... at the hands of Rocky.

Never knew that. That one loss must haunt him. Who did he beat for the HW title?

Saw a profile of his wife, I don't think I ever knew her name was Ludmilla. Prime Brigitte was fine. I do remember her being a double gold medalist in swimming though.

Gender Female
Born: October 3, 1960 in Moscow, Russia

Height 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m)
Weight 135 pounds (61 kg)
Job/Career former Soviet Olympic swimmer, trainer
Related to Wife of Ivan Drago
Portrayed by: Brigitte Nielsen

She was the double-gold medalist in swimming. Six months before Ivan Drago actually fought Rocky Balboa, Ludmilla and Ivan were very poor. Tall, blonde and statuesque in stature, Ludmilla shaved her head to make profit, and so did Ivan in return. It is shown in the beginning that she is extremely arrogantly self-confident and has somewhat of a sadistic, cruel streak about her. Two examples being that she was shown smiling while Drago beats Apollo Creed to death and when Rocky challenges Drago; she insisted that it would be held in Moscow whilst criticizing America

And she has an action figure

Yes, but when he became that new fighter he beat Clubber in 3 rounds, and actually did it relatively easily. Clubber got in some good shots and there were a few spots where Rocky was in a lot of danger, but for the most part, it was Rocky from beginning to end.

He had to change to beat Clubber, but that's only half the picture. The other half was that he was mentally checked out for the fight, didn't take it seriously from day 1, didn't really want it, Mickey begged him not to do it, etc. It wasn't like a fully motivated and fully trained Rocky, who had the full support of his trainer and put everything he had into, went in and got killed. It was a shell of a man who didn't want to be there, was stressed to the max, panicking over Mickey, etc that Clubber killed. Of course Apollo's training is what helped him win the rematch, but it was ALSO the fact that he overcame his demons, fully trained and prepared, was fully motivated and gave it his all. He was at peace.

For IV, it was that same Rocky, only better. It was the absolute best version of Rocky there's ever been, who had accumulated all those new skills from Apollo, plus all his old skills from Mickey; who knew literally everything there was to know about boxing, was in the best shape of his life, trained the hardest he's ever trained in his life, was the most mature he's ever been, was maxed out in every single category, primed, hyper-motivated, laser focused, went in to fight Drago and STILL got his ass absolutely massacred for 90% of the fight.... that tells me Drago was his best/greatest/toughest opponent ever.

Yeah, that was awesome. His only loss ever was to Rocky, and every single one of his wins was via KO.

As soon as Rocky got back from Russia a doctor checked him out and told him that he was suffering from brain damage and should never fight again because he might die. that Rocky was not prime Rocky

That's pretty awesome.

That was directly caused from his fight with Drago.

That makes me wish they made a Rocky spin off movie just about a fight between Tommy Gunn and Ivan Drago.
