Best Rocky "Villain"

Which character made the best antagonist in the Rocky films?

What the hell is going on in here?!? There was no such thing as Rocky 5, and by extension no Tommy Gunn. I thought all Rocky fans agreed on this.

The best villain is obviously father time. That cancer giving pick. I don't know if there were any villains in the series. Drago was doing a job without animosity. Clubber just wanted to get his rightful shot at the belt. Apollo, Mason and Ricky were either trying to make a buck or wanting to prove a point.

My favorite opponent was Apollo. He made Rocky. He was a charismatic elite athlete, who also happened to be a brilliant business man. To me he was as much a part of the franchise as Balboa. Pretty sure that's why I enjoyed Creed so much.

Get real. There are people who don't like any of the Rocky films past the original, and they can say those movies didn't exist if they like, but we all know they did. That said, I think Rocky V gets overly criticized. It's certainly an imperfect film, but it had its moments.

I agree with you about Apollo though. I am really surprised he only got 7 votes up until this point. He was a great antagonist. As much as I like Drago and Clubber, Apollo's character had something those two didn't.
 
Apollo wasn't really a villain, he was just the heavyweight champ of the world, and living it up. Clubber, Drago and Gunn were real villains, imo.

Drago is probably the most iconic. If he dies, he dies.

Lol. Obviously I was joking. Somewhat. It's the one movie in the franchise that just doesn't 'fit'. The continuity seems off, and I just don't like the movie. I take cheap shots at it at every opportunity. Of course it had redeeming qualities, just not enough for me to enjoy it.

Hey, at least we agree there was something special about Apollo.

"Villain" is a subjective term. You can argue that Apollo was the "villain" in the first two films. Regardless of whether or not you see him as a "villain" though, he was definitely the main antagonist in those first two films.

ivan drago was the strongest but he didn't get inside the head of rocky like clubber lang. clubber talked shit to rocky and beat him for his strap....and inadvertently killed mick.
 
What about George Washington Duke? He turned Tommy Gunn against Rocky. Also he gave us Union Cane the worst champion in the Rocky universe. Rocky 4 Apollo Creed would have destroyed Union Cane in 5.
 
I went with Clubber by the way. He got a W against Rocky, and talked crazy shit while doing it. Also I guess sort of killed Mickey too.

Anyway, my apparently unpopular choice is Apollo Creed. After Apollo the characters become increasingly Kitschy. Ivan Drago (everyone’s favorite) is just a walking bag of clumsy stereotypes manifested into a movie character. Fun, sure. But only Rocky one was an actual good movie with great characters.
 
Tommy Gunn is the correct answer.

Apollo was just cocky. Clubber was a loudmouth asshole. Drago was robotic and stoic. But Tommy was a friend...that turned his back on Rocko for a cushier life. They all may have punched a hole through Rocky’s head, but Tommy’s the only one to punch a hole through Rocky’s heart.

I guess you could argue the same with Drago since he killed Apollo, but that was Apollo’s choice to get into the ring.

In the spirit of this thread I'm going to put all the Rocky movies on in sequence. Even Balboa and Creed. Yup, all of em, except for that turd Rocky 5.:D
