Yeah, I'm aware of the nerfs, doesn't change the fact that you'd have been purchasing a project right away, which I've got nothing against either. My buying, then immediately modding and subsequently voiding a warranty days are behind me.Here is where just reading spec sheets will fuck with you.
Late 70’s everything was detuned way down because of emissions an fear of another gas crisis etc.
While the Pontiac 400, 6.6 T/A was only listed at like 220 or so horses, it was a torque monster and wasn’t all that slow.
And it took very very little tinkering to wake it right up.
The exhaust on them was very very restrictive.
Set of headers and a gear swap and it’s a different car.
Now throw a cam, Intake and Holley carb on it with a set of slicks and it’s pulling the tires at the drag strip.
"Thank you Ms. Vito, no more questions...you've been a lovely, lovely witness."“In 1963 only two cars came with independent rear suspension,
The Corvette, and the Pontiac tempest”

Your gonna buy a 70’s muscle car with a warranty??Yeah, I'm aware of the nerfs, doesn't change the fact that you'd have been purchasing a project right away, which I've got nothing against either. My buying, then immediately modding and subsequently voiding a warranty days are behind me.

Ford V8s, starting with 4.2 and 4.7 Mustang engines, in 1965, a 7-liter Ford engine was squeezed in.
Shelby wanted the AC Cobras to beat its rival Corvettesand at nearly 500 lb less than the Chevrolet Corvette, the lightweight roadster accomplished that goal at Riverside International Raceway on February 2, 1963. Driver Dave MacDonald piloted CSX2026, one which Shelby in 1964 fitted with a larger Ford FE engine of 390 cubic inches (6.4 L), blew past a field of Corvettes, Jaguars, Porsches, and Maseratis and recorded the Cobra's historic first-ever victory. cite

When the guy was talking about 396’s I mentioned a hemi dart.
It’s the only thing on the street that came around our 427 chevelle when I was a kid.
My grandfather started a car collection when he had some good years later in life. He was 16 in 1955 so all his dream cars were mid to late 50’s models. He had several 57 Bel Airs and 56 Fords but for me the crown jewel was a 55 that looked just like that but red. The others were decked out in chrome and tail fins but something about that simplistic body design and classic hot rod look just hooked me. It “only” had a 350 in it but the sound was amazing. What a beautiful car.
Show some numbers. No offense.. but a properly tuned Hemi Dart with someone that is savy should blow the doors off a 427 Chevelle unless some work was done to the Chevy.. this goes double for the track.
And I’m an old school GM guy for what it’s worth.. owned plenty of them and currently have a 70 SS Chevelle inm my stable. I’ve only seen Hemi Darts at the tracks and in car shows tho (and lord only knows what else has been done to some of those over the years by time I was laying eyes on them).
Same goes for the 64 ‘Bolts. Only really seen them at the strip and I’ve seen them get handled by Hemis and so on.. @jefferz
