Since I don’t have a One at the moment I haven’t seen any of your forza cars in a while.

Here is where just reading spec sheets will fuck with you.

Late 70’s everything was detuned way down because of emissions an fear of another gas crisis etc.

While the Pontiac 400, 6.6 T/A was only listed at like 220 or so horses, it was a torque monster and wasn’t all that slow.

And it took very very little tinkering to wake it right up.

The exhaust on them was very very restrictive.

Set of headers and a gear swap and it’s a different car.

Now throw a cam, Intake and Holley carb on it with a set of slicks and it’s pulling the tires at the drag strip.
Yeah, I'm aware of the nerfs, doesn't change the fact that you'd have been purchasing a project right away, which I've got nothing against either. My buying, then immediately modding and subsequently voiding a warranty days are behind me.

A lot of my favorites have already been posted. I also love the 70-72 monte Carlo.

Your gonna buy a 70’s muscle car with a warranty??

<45>

Also back then a lot of dealers sold them with “track packs” and shit and the headers , I take and carbs would be in the trunk.

People gave three fucks or less about warranty on cars back then

Ford Thunderbolt shits all over anything in this thread.
427ci 425hp 480ft lb torque conservatively rated.
Fiberglass doors, hood, front fenders and even the front bumper on the earliest cars along with Plexiglas side and rear windows aided in weight reduction. Other weight-saving measures include the elimination of such street items as the sunvisors, radio, heater, wheel covers, passenger-side windshield wiper, arm rests, rear window cranks, mirrors, sound deadening material, carpeting, trunk mat, lug wrench, jack and spare tire. The front seats are either lightweight units from Ford's police package vehicles or rudimentary bucket seats from the Econoline van; the carpeting was replaced with a black rubber mat. The rear seat is a standard Fairlane unit. The high-beam headlights were eliminated as well and in their place are mesh-covered air intakes which run directly to a special air cleaner atop the 427. Like the street version, the Thunderbolt's outer high-low 5.75 in (146 mm) headlights of the type normally used with a four-lamp system are selectable with a standard foot-operated switch.
At the 1967 NHRA Winternationals, a factory Thunderbolt ran a 1⁄4 mile (402 m) of 10.365 seconds at 132.65 mph (213 km/h). That time still puts it at tied at number 10 for fastest production cars ever. That's faster than a Tesla Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode, Ferrari 812 Superfast, and the McLaren 675LT. Throw modern tires on them and they'll run 9's, video proof below.

1966 427 AC Shelby Cobra
1966_Shelby_Cobra.jpg

Ford V8s, starting with 4.2 and 4.7 Mustang engines, in 1965, a 7-liter Ford engine was squeezed in.

Shelby wanted the AC Cobras to beat its rival Corvettesand at nearly 500 lb less than the Chevrolet Corvette, the lightweight roadster accomplished that goal at Riverside International Raceway on February 2, 1963. Driver Dave MacDonald piloted CSX2026, one which Shelby in 1964 fitted with a larger Ford FE engine of 390 cubic inches (6.4 L), blew past a field of Corvettes, Jaguars, Porsches, and Maseratis and recorded the Cobra's historic first-ever victory. cite

  1. 1966 AC Cobra 427 Specs
    Production 316

Body Style Light alloy, two-door, two-seater, open sports.

    Engine V8, 6989cc.

Power Output 425 bhp at 6000 rpm.

    Transmission Four-speed all-synchromesh

    Maximum Speed 165 mph

    0-60 mph 4.2 sec

    0-100 mph 10.3 sec

That's a British car with an American motor shoved in it.

The 427 was not as popular due to special order item in most cases and people not wanting to wait on it and wanting to leave the showroom that day with thier chevelle.

We had a 68 with a 427 and m22 my dad had ordered

Loved that car.

My second favorite transmission on the planet, I’ve had a bunch wish i still had them all.

M21’s are good too, but they are no rock crusher.

My favorite transmission ever, was my last t-5 I built.

I got the liberty “pro-shifted” internals with straight cut gears like the rock crusher.

That my friend was a thing of beauty to shift.

When the guy was talking about 396’s I mentioned a hemi dart.

It’s the only thing on the street that came around our 427 chevelle when I was a kid.

Aren’t those cars all from the 80’s? They don’t still, exist, right?

No offense.. but a properly tuned Hemi Dart with someone that is savy should blow the doors off a 427 Chevelle unless some work was done to the Chevy.. this goes double for the track.

And I’m an old school GM guy for what it’s worth.. owned plenty of them and currently have a 70 SS Chevelle in my stable. I’ve only seen Hemi Darts at the tracks and in car shows tho (and lord only knows what else has been done to some of those over the years by time I was laying eyes on them).

Same goes for the 64 ‘Bolts. Only really seen them at the strip and I’ve seen them get handled by Hemis and so on.. @jefferz

My grandfather started a car collection when he had some good years later in life. He was 16 in 1955 so all his dream cars were mid to late 50’s models. He had several 57 Bel Airs and 56 Fords but for me the crown jewel was a 55 that looked just like that but red. The others were decked out in chrome and tail fins but something about that simplistic body design and classic hot rod look just hooked me. It “only” had a 350 in it but the sound was amazing. What a beautiful car.

<{monica}>

Tho I prefer the ‘Two Lane Blacktop’ and ‘American Graffiti’ versions (same car btw, they painted one of the Two Lane cars for the American Graffiti film, and changed a few other things too)

My uncle left a Boss 302 to his grandson in his will... He was a younger cat and didn't take care of the car. Now it's sitting on blocks in front of his house and he doesn't have the means to get it up and running again. I've offered to buy it, to restore it (in due time) to keep it in the family and to keep Uncle's car running.

He's refused....

Bummer...
