Toney steps out of his sport to fight Couture -
it's only fair for Couture to do the same.

Only problem with this is that MMA is not Couture's sport - wrestling is.

If Toney was putting on a singlet and facing Couture, I

If it was easy, don't you think someone would have done it by now?
Or may be there was no money in doing it, ever thought of that?

At his peak Tyson's net worth was something like 300 million $ and that was decades ago. No K1 fighter is close to making even 1/10th of that today AFAIK.

And before K1 was established the situation was even worse for Kickboxers.

There have been a number of Muay Thai fighters who went to Boxing because of the money and some of them did quiet well with Khaosai Galaxy becoming a legit ATG of Boxing. You didn't see it the other way around because there was no money not because Boxers can't, hell freaking Bob Sapp beat Hoost twice and sherdoggers act like Mike Tyson would have had no chance against an elite Kickboxer.

If you put the same money on the table you will see a few elite Boxers who will test themselves in both sports. In ancient Greece where the prestige for a Boxer and Pankrationist was relatively the same, plenty of fighters competed in both events including Theagenes of Thasos.

Hopkins knows the score, no doubt about that.

David Haye too.

I imagine a lot of pro boxers actually know this, especially those who have taken the plunge and done a couple of MMA workouts to see what it's like, but are reluctant to admit it because after all, boxing is their way to make a living and there's no sense in shooting down your own sport.

The score, by the way, in actual Boxer vs. MMA fights, outside of fantasy land, is this:

1. James Warring (BOXING) SUB 1 Jerome Turcan
2. James Warring (BOXING) KO 1 Erik Paulson
3. Renzo Gracie (MMA) SUB 1 James Warring (BOXING)
4. Jeremy Williams (BOXING) KO 1 Josh Tamsen (MMA)
5. Jeremy Williams (BOXING) KO 2 Ron Fields (MMA)
6. Jeremy Williams (BOXING) SUB 1 Derek Thornton (MMA)
7. Jeremy Williams (BOXING) KO 3 Charles Jones (MMA)
8. Jeremy Williams (BOXING) KO 1 Auggie Padeken (MMA)
9. Ray Mercer (BOXING) KO 1 Tim Sylvia (MMA)
10. James Toney (BOXING) KO 1 Randy Couture (MMA)

Boxing: 9
MMA: 1

24-2, WBO champ Nishijma doesn't count as a legit boxer?

Your trolling is getting so thick that you're starting to disrespect acomplished boxers. Come on, you used to do better.

Look at the records of the ppl he fought.
He's right,24-2 doesnt mean much if you fight a lot guys with sub par records.
Yosuke Nishijima - Boxer

Warring also has quite some cans in his record (4-17, 15-39, a couple of 0-0 first timers, tends to lose when he fight someone good...). Warring is cool enough to be on that list but Nishi ain't? Calling Nishijima "great" or "really good" would be stupid, but labelling him as a jobber is just wrong.

By the time he made his MMA debut Yosuke Nishijima was a jobber, being a decade removed from his prime and two years removed from being handily defeated by a no-name journeyman.

Edit: This is not to say that he wasn't a good fighter in his heyday.

Hmm. 5-time champion and competitor of the sport for over 13 years vs out of shape boxer who has never been in a cage. Not very neutral.
My thoughts exactly.
Randy's sport was Greco-Roman wrestling but now it's most definitely
MMA.

If Toney wins Dana should commit seppuku lol.

Just cause he runs fast doesn't mean he can fight, $#!tbrains...

Being a fighter starts in the psyche.

Being a world-class athlete means jack$#!t unless he's already a fighter in his Heart and mind.

.

Cmon man , he made some valid points and you made some valid rebuttals but why the name calling ?

btw that true. Just cuz a person is a great athlete doesnt mean he'll make a great fighter. The first requirement is mental : Do u like to hit and be hit ?

if kickboxing offered anything close to what a prime boxer would make don't you think someone would have done it by now?

We saw what happened when the undisputed heavyweight world champion fought a professional wrestler in a fight where kicks were allowed in 1976. What happened to the champion's leg in that fight? What if a legitimate kickboxer did the kicking?

Jesus christ. Do you seriously believe boxers with no experience with leg strikes and strikes below the belt can easily destroy people with that experience? It's like saying an army without tanks can easily destroy an army with tanks, simply because you believe the former army is somehow mystically "tougher". People who have all the tools you have, and more, HAVE AN ADVANTAGE. Give me a break. Just because you enjoy boxing doesn't mean you should treat boxers like gods who are the epitome of mortal combat.

Well, to be fair you've included as MMA fighters guys who are the MMA equivalent of Butterbean and Jimmerson ... in fact arguably only Mercer vs Sylvia is a meeting of guys who were near the top of their respective sport (Toney and Couture will be too of course, but that still has to happen). So even by your example, excluding jobbers and losing club fighters, the score is 1-0 for boxing.

dont forget Erik Paulson was much bigger for MMA than James Warring was to boxing

If we want to keep being silly with this "Boxing vs. MMA" thing, it can be said that the debate was settled when one of the Boxing Top3 GOATs got leg-kick raped in a match with tailor-made rules, by a Pro-wrestler who couldn't grab any holds on him - similar to a boxer not being able to punch, although I can see John Ruiz winning with those rules -. :p
