Baldur's Gate 3 is now the Best Game of ALL TIME on PC
It's so cool how well this is doing, despite having zero DRM. You can actually launch the game without Steam running. This really pushes back against all that crippling denuvo crap publishers stick in their games.
It's fitting that BG3 and Disco Elysium are 1 and 2. Disco was the best representation of a D&D campaign for me, prior to BG3.
I can't get over how stellar this game is. It's hands down the best true role playing game I've every played.
I'm about to enter phase 2 of Act II's main boss. What an epic battle leading to him, there must have been 50 characters in that frenzy. I was worried about this being a slog, the battles zip by!
In the last 20 years? Its quite frankly the best RPG ever made. BG3 has, much to the chagrin of other game studios, raised the bar for the entire industry. Most of the time you can find something to really nitpick, usually its something like, "Yea, its a great game....buuut.....the voice acting is shit." With Baldur's Gate 3 it seemingly has no weaknesses. It has the same sort of fresh champion scent as games like Witcher 3 or Elden Ring in the sense that people just were not ready for it, like a shock to the gaming senses.
The only thing I don't like like about it is the weak character customization, and not being able to make other party members from scratch. Hopefully they add the latter in future updates. I don't care for the first playthrough, as I absolutely love the party members, their backstories, and voice acting, but being able to create our buddies would make replayability that much more fun. I'm sure mods will fix that, if they already haven't.
For customization, they really should have used sliders and limited our face time in cutscenes. 90% of the time my guy either looks constipated, retarded or incredibly sarcastic. It was the same issue with Dragon Age Origins. I like the mute protag, but you can't give them so much screen time. Their muted responses with those bizarrely animated expressions really stand out against the amazing animations and voice work of all the characters throughout the game.
They really should have let us look up when zoomed fully in too. The environments and structures are so beautiful, it's a shame we rarely get to see them fully.
