Movies AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR v.8

I wish DC would step their game up to make it competitive with the MCU.

As far as their heroes being more compelling? Sure, from a power stand point. But it's not even close between heroes personalities. The varying C level powered characters are able to give you movies like Winter Soldier, Ant Man, Homecoming, etc.

As much as i love flashy battles and fight scenes and god like beings duking it out. I love seeing agile, well choreographed, street level combat as well. I can only take Superman flying into someone and smashing him into buildings so many times

The potential is all there. wonder woman, flash, aquman, cyborg can all pull their weight and have lots of room to explore/show their powers more (GL and MM also included but not in the first movie)
The avengers have c level characters like black widow fighting thanos henchmen and keeping them honest.
And others like Wanda with random red magic magic powers.

Im not knocking the film i think its great but marvel in general has to much disney gloss on it.
DC heroes are generic and boring..... Marvels are far more developed and interesting. Scarlet Witch is an omega level mutant capable of bending reality to her will..... along with telekinesis etc. shes a far more interesting character than any of the JL

The DC shit that's on TV can't even hold a candle to what Marvel has done:

Compare the combat you see in Punisher to the shit you see in like Arrow and it's not even close.

Of the DC "TV" shit Gotham is probably the one I like the most and I think that's cause it's a bit of a CSI/Law and Order type crime show that just happens to be set in the DC Universe.

EDIT:
The one caveat to what I said is the fucking Iron Fist and Daredevil shows... they go a little overboard with the 1980s wire martial arts shit in those IMO.

It isn't that they're generic and boring... it's that the flaws they have you can't see readily:

- Punisher... really REALLY toes that "good/evil" line and strays across quite frequently. He is a man that wants to die in combat to see his family again and no one can give him his relief

- Iron Man... dude is a hard core alcoholic

- The Hulk... if he truly loses it the man is a fucking nuclear level event walking around

There's plenty of others out there too...

DC though?

- Batman/Green Arrow... really other than one being a broody "but my parents!" and the other one being an overly sarcastic motherfucker with arrows what exactly is the difference between the two?

- SuperMan... he's vulnerable to a green rock... and... um....

- Wonder Woman... basically a goddamn God

The goddamn DC villains are more compelling and interesting than the "heroes" IMO.

EDIT:

I know until more modern times Deadpool was more of a cult favorite among X-Men fans so it might not be the greatest example but does DC have a character like him where he's a sarcastic motherfucker that is also self-aware of how ridiculous everything he takes part in is?

Yes. I'm trolling slightly when I say the Russos are slipping. Winter Soldier is my favorite MCU movie, Infinity War is probably my second favorite. Civil War I'm unsure of it's placement, but at least top 5. Overall the Russos have made the best MCU movies imo, although James Gunn could give them a run for their money with a strong showing in Guardians vol 3.

edit: I was also intentionally ignoring that Civil War and especially Infinity War were much bigger and more challenging projects.

Pretty similar to my preferences, I actually think the MCU has been at its best from 2014 onwards with the three Russo films, the original Guardians and Ragnarok(which I think beats the Guardians sequal at its own game) as the best films its come up with yet.

Truuuue. Wait until Marvel gets a hold of the cosmic characters and i think that's when power levels will go ape shit lol

So Gotham's worth a watch eh? I watched a bit of the first season, but since moving i never got caught up again.

Of the DC shows it's definitely the best IMO. It got better the older the Bruce Wayne character has gotten too.

First two seasons you'll end up hoping that every time Bruce is in danger it's an alternate universe where he gets killed cause of how the kid tends to over-act.

what I find most hilarious about DC is that their most compelling character is a clown lol

yeah Ive got a theory they asked Chris Pratt to put on a bit of weight so he didnt look as impressive as Hemsworth(or close to it) cos he got in mega shape for GotG 1 and 2
giphy.gif

I think Pratt is the kinda guy that is really enjoying life and the goods that comes with it, such as food. IMO, I think he just put on weight, and wouldn't be surprised that the ribbing he took about his weight in I.W. was some light hearted jab at his expense. To his credit, the dude can shred in no time.

I felt the opening of MOS was pretty decent as was the exile story as a whole but the Daily Planet story felt like it was being pushed in too early making everything a lot more cluttered than it needed to be.

Going back to the originals it seemed like trying to do Superman 1 & 2 at the same time not leaving enough space to do either as well.

Yea you could tell they wanted to avoid doing the whole "origin" story. Which IMO was a good idea, we've seen it a million times with Superman don't need to see it again. Didn't come out quite right and it had it's flaws but overall I enjoyed the movie. Wish they could have kept it going at that level at least and I would still be going to the movies to watch DC. Unfortunately after all the hate they received because of MOS they decided to do things even worse and well we all see where DC is at now.

DC their most compelling characters are a insane clown and a dude with weird regen Deadpool/Wolverine type powers that wears an orange mask like he's a hunter during deer season.

This is probably more of a production company thing but DC since the Bale trilogy ended seems to have struggled a ton to get even their Batman and Superman lines rolling and those are their marque guys.

Go back to 2005 and you tell me Ant-Man would be something that people would be looking forward to watching or that Guardians of the Galaxy would help break box office records MOST of us would have openly laughed in Kevin Feige's face.

Like, in WHAT WORLD does a very secondary to the ordinary public's perception of superheores will Ant-Man 2 most likely out do JL and shit at the box office?

Yeah I'd agree with that and I think its actually why DC is shooting itself in the foot rather by copying Marvels "team" style. Rushing things is obviously part of the problem but I think Marvel is just naturally more suited to team films as they tend to focus on the heroes playing off each either not on the villians(well pre Thanos anyway).

You look at the best DC films down the years and they have always tended to feature the villians pretty strongly, Luthor and Zod in the original Superman films, The Joker in the original Batman and TDK, etc.

Yeah I'd agree its still the best of the DC EU films for me and they seemed to take exactly the wrong lesson from it, doubling down on making things overly cluttered.

Yea some of the characters Marvel has made popular I would have never though would work.

I'm so glad there was hardly any cap America or most of the Avengers for that matter. It's like oh cool you have robot bird wings, oh you are a spy girl. Lame AF

Some fucking teenaged boy broke my daughter's heart today...

He spoiled Infinity Wars for her, she was waiting for me to come home from underway to see it (she even told her boyfriend MCU movies we're our thing)

Going to need to dig a hole for that fucker
