You expect Hulk to show back up..he never does, expectations subverted. Thought that woulda been right up your alley.

Did they remove this shot from the home release? I remember joking about the 300-style teeth but I don't recall it from the actual film.

In the comics Hulk had various colors\personalities so only makes since that the MCU takes advantage of this and implements it into the story somehow. The change could also coincide with changing the character enough to release a better solo movie for him after A4.

The way to beat Hulk is not a long drawn out fight. Unless you are really holding back and have a power level well beyond what you are fighting Hulk at the start of the fight with, he will only get stronger and beyond your ability to beat him. The Hulk Buster armor only won because he had the ability too drop an entire building on him and then coldcock him while dazed. Otherwise Hulk was beyond that armors power.

Thanos without the Power Stone would have to be super tactical and go for the kill shots early or Hulk would out power him.

But Thanos is well above Hulk in power, at least in the comics.
 
Always thought the HulkBuster shouldn’t have beaten the Hulk.

I refuse to believe he lost.

You know about how Marvel almost went bankrupt in the 90's and sold the films rights to most of their popular characters right? Spider-man to Sony, X-Men and Fantastic Four to Fox etc. Hulk went to Universal, and they made the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk movie. (Don't make me Ang Lee, you wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee)

Some time after that the film rights to Hulk were going to expire, and around this same time Marvel Studios was working on launching it's own movies, so Marvel (not yet owned by Disney) made a deal with Universal where Marvel gets the film production rights back and could do their own Hulk movie which would build into the Avengers, with Universal retaining the distribution rights. Before Marvel was purchased by Disney they were a relatively small, independent studio that couldn't afford to both produce and distribute their own movies. For this reason they entered into a deal with Paramount studios to distribute four films, which ended up being Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor and Captain America. This is why the Paramount logo comes up when you watch the first Iron Man on blu-ray. The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton was distributed by Universal due to the previous deal. This worked out well enough for Marvel at the time because they needed a distribution partner anyway, but in 2009 Disney bought Marvel outright as well as retroactively buying the distribution rights to the first few films from Paramount. Universal didn't want to give up their Hulk distribution rights.

Marvel is free to use Hulk in any movie they want because they own the character out right, Universal only owns the rights to distribute any solo Hulk movie. Theoretically another solo Hulk movie could have already been made. Feige and Ruffalo in interviews have basically placed all of the blame for another one not being made on Universal. It's possible that's true and Universal has refused to agree to distribute a Hulk movie, since The Incredible Hulk was the lowest grossing of all MCU films to date. Personally, I kind of think they are blowing smoke and that the primary reason is that Disney doesn't want to produce a film that another studio will end up distributing, at least not when they can just use Hulk in other movies. They were willing to do it with Spider-man because they were desperate to get Spider-man in the MCU.

No one is well above Hulk if they let the fight drag out too long. His power up (as dumb as it is) is infinite.

But yes at the start and maybe for a good stretch Thanos, like Odin, Zeus and a few others can take their power level up enough to finish him.
 
I thought it was pretty good. My biggest gripe is that a Silver Surfer movie didnt lead into this one.

The thing I think I can respect on that part is they seemed to convey that Banner was starting to take back over (that is, Wanda's mind control may have been starting to wear off) as you can see Hulk start to look really empathetic and concerned as he sees the people staring at him in fear and cowering and fleeing. Then just before he starts to rage again, Stark levels him. The shots you don't see coming are the worst (Anderson vs. Weidman- is normal).

That said, having re-watched Age of Ultron fairly recently, I was struck by how the fight was pretty lopsided in Stark/Hulkbuster's favor. Hulk gets the moment where he is ground and pounding the shit out of HUlkbuster and does some damage, but Stark quickly reverses it with a big punch that sends Hulk flying. Additionally, a lot of Hulk's attacks are reversed- he gets his momentum used against him, he gets tossed, launched, etc. That was a clearcut 10-9 of a round before the KO.

I felt the same way at the time, but in hindsight I don't mind it. This was Tony's last big solo win against major opposition. He lost to Cap and Winter Soldier in Civil War and got curb-stomped by Thanos.
