Crazy that in just 3 years Marvel has completely destroyed their infinite cash cow. All the television series, movies introducing new characters then never mentioning them again, and turning two of the last few characters that people love (thor/hulk) into comedic cucks has made me lose most interest now. Ryan Reynolds will never let Disney ruin Deadpool thankfully so Ill look forward to that but otherwise....yawn.

Was hoping they'd nix Kang as teh big bad after falling so short on teh big bad front.

Kang is due out May 1, 2026, while Secret Wars has a release date of May 7, 2027.
Fooking wit "Star Warz Day" 2 yearz in a row? Teh fook?

Secret Wars Scribe and Loki Creator Michael Waldron to Write AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY

avengers-5_michael-waldron_multiverse_loki_doctor-strange-2_avengers-the-kang-dynasty_-1.jpg

Marvel Studios is moving fast to find a new variant on its script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Marvel mainstay Michael Waldron will tackle Kang Dynasty, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The hiring cements Waldron as a key architect of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, its sprawling story told across multiple realities in film and TV. Waldron entered the Marvel fold as the creator of Loki, and went on to write Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He is also the scribe behind Avengers: Secret Wars, which will follow Kang Dynasty. Kang is due out May 1, 2026, while Secret Wars has a release date of May 7, 2027.

The move follows the exit of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who remains in the Marvel fold on the TV show Wonder Man as well as with his upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel.

Jeff Loveness, who wrote the Kang-centric feature Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, penned the previous draft of Kang Dynasty. Jonathan Majors plays Kang, a time-traveling villain with many variants across the multiverse. A version of Kang first appeared in the season one finale of Loki, with another serving as the antagonist of Quantumania. The final moments of the film revealed an entire Council of Kangs, with dozens of Kangs played by Majors, who returned for Loki season two and whose future in the MCU has been the subject of speculation as the actor awaits trial in New York on misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault.

Neither Kang Dynasty nor Secret Wars have directors attached, though Waldron’s hiring suggests a unified vision for both films ala Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which were both penned by the writing duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

I wonder whether that might mean that Benson and Moorhead are in with a chance of actually making it? they seemed like a very good fit for Loki and there now relatively long term Marvel vets even if they havent done a film for them.

This. Deadpool 3 is the only Marvel film I'm excited for. I'll watch Echo as well, but I have a bad feeling they will nerf Kingpin just as the did in Hawkeye.

Hold on......I thought Loki sucked and so did most fans, as it did poorly in the ratings. I didn't hate DR Strange 2, but most people didn't like it, as it was admittedly a chaotic mess. So this is who you hire for the next phase? What am I missing here? And many of us admit one of the issues in these later Marvel movies is the lack of the right villain. The Marvels showed this. So they go with kang? This is not rocket science, and yet they seem to make mistakes EVERY step they take. Please someone correct me if i am wrong.....Is Kang putting asses in seats? And what stars are left? Brie proved she can't be a lead. They already downgraded many of the others by putting them in shit TV shows.

Failure is Stunning and Brave, bro. The writer for The Marvels has been signed for the Tomb Raider series. And she flat out says that she writes the stuff she wants to watch, not the fans.

If they stick with Jonathan Majors then it will definitely put my ass in a seat, he's the greatest actor to come along in decades!

Wait, I just read that the original Director exited the movie and that the actor portraying Kang faces possible jail time over a domestic assault case?

It's like the MCU became cursed when Cap and Iron Man exited.

I just don't understand this idea with Kang. Showing him get beaten in Ant man was just bad. Loki also beat a version of him. The only thing that makes sense is they introduce a Kang who comes in and kills all the Kangs without breaking a sweat and becomes a real threat. Otherwise I just don't see the point.

Who are the protagonists of this movie? Iron Man is dead, Cap is retired, Spiderman is erased from history, Guardians are broken up. Captain Marvel is a bland character that can't carry a movie. None of the new characters they've introduced have really stood out. This movie is gonna sink or swim based on team dynamic.

Will Captain Marvel get her powers taken by Rogue before or after the Kang stuff is over?

They should just scrap all the existing MCU characters and go straight to X-Men.

I thought they already pivoted to Doom and are dropping Kang as an Avengers big Bad as he hasn't exactly been well received.

Honestly Marvel needs a 3 year break to renew intrest as it's almost at zero.

I'd rather watch a Jar Jar Binks origin story than anything the MCU has to offer post 2019

I'v not really followed the response to it that closely but it mostly seems to be positive to me, a few cultural war crazies seemed to hate it but generally seemed pretty positive to me.

I don't agree Kang is the issue, I think thus far that plot aspect is one of the most interesting things in the post End Game MCU and Majors does play it well for me. I think the issue personally is that the MCU has been rather lacking in quality character drama, I'd argue thats really what it was always sold on most or at least what set it apart from various other big CGI blockbusters. They lost several of their best characters in Stark, Roger, Widow, Panther, etc and I think a few of the others like Thor and Hawk feel a bit played out dramatically whilst few of the new ones seem that interesting, I think those in Loki and Moon Knight are probably the best, maybe the new Widow as well although not really been given that much time yet.

A few recent MCU films to me feel like their reverting to more generic "big blockbuster" style writting with quite simple cliched drama and just throwing a load of CGI and set peices at the viewer, I don't think they've put out much which is "bad" but quite a few which are just "ok" and little besides maybe Guardians 3 to really build up interest.

The Russo Bros. in Talks to Return to Marvel Studios to Direct AVENGERS 5 and 6

Avengers-Secret-Wars-Russos.jpg

Joe and Anthony Russo are assembling a team — once again. The Russo Bros. are in early talks to return to Marvel Studios to direct not just one, but the next two Avengers movies, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The hiring ends a months-long, high stakes search by the studio for filmmakers to oversee the fifth and sixth Avengers movies. Multiple names were in contention, including Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, who was offered the gig. Sources say the talks are in the early stages.

The move also marks a homecoming for The Russos, who jumped from the world of TV comedy on shows like Arrested Development and Community to blockbuster movies a decade ago, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). In total, they directed four of Marvel’s biggest and best regarded movies, going on to helm Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Combined, their Marvel films grossed $6.681 billion, with Endgame standing as the No. 2 movie of all time globally with $2.79 billion.

In the years since, they have become mega-producers via their AGBO banner, producing best picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once and pricey titles such as Amazon’s Citadel and Netflix’s Extraction movies. As directors, after becoming box office kings at Marvel, they stuck to streaming titles that did not reach the critical and cultural heights of their Marvel work, directing the Tom Holland crime drama Cherry (2021) for Apple and the big budget action movie The Gray Man (2022) at Netflix. They also directed the upcoming sci-fi adventure The Electric State for Netflix.

The fifth Avengers movie was previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and was to star Jonathan Majors as time-traveling villain Kang. But Marvel cut ties with the actor after he was convicted of assault in harassment in December. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton was once attached to direct Kang Dynasty, but he departed a month before Majors’ conviction. The feature is expected to get a new name and a new focus.

The sixth Avengers film is Secret Wars, which is a storyline the Russos have long talked about wanting to adapt. A pair of 1980s comic book series focused on an all powerful antagonist known as the Beyonder, who in the first installment pitted Marvel’s heroes and villains against each other on a planet known as Battleworld. A 2015 revival served as the climax to writer Jonathan Hickman’s own multiverse saga, which has already had elements referenced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). In Hickman’s Secret Wars, all of Marvel’s multiverses are destroyed, with remnants surviving on a single planet ruled by the villain Doctor Doom.

Avengers 5 is set for May 1, 2026 and Secret Wars is set for May 7, 2027.
