well, if they do recast Doom post-Secret Wars/Doomsday, Gorgeous George MacKay & Charles Melton will be almost 40, & i think either of them would be great, so maybe one of them could take over as the not-lazy-bullshit Doom at that point

Was hoping Henry Cavill would be Doom

They don't need anyone that physically imposing. After the obligatory origin scene he'll be in a mask the whole time. What they need is an imposing voice. To be honest the could have done worse than Ralph Ineson, the man they got to be Galactus, but obviously he's out.

Beyond both Victor and Tony being uber-geniuses who invented and wear incredibly powerful armour, there's not much direct connection. In fact, Doom invented his mask and suit while studying in a hidden monastry with Tibetan Monks. And since Dr Doom debuted a few months before Iron Man, it means he was actually the first to build Powered Armour,

"In a cave! From a box of scraps!" ;)

Victor did try to redeem himself by taking Tony Stark's place and becoming the Infamous Iron Man at one point.

Amusingly, Doom is possibly the only Marvel character even more arrogant than Tony Stark, although given his incredible skills, powers and victories, his massive ego is somewhat justified. Tony can at least match Doom in Robotics and associated fields, but he has next to no knowledge of Magic, while Doom is second only to Dr Strange in that field.

And while Tony is a decent fighter at best without his Suit, Doom is a Master of the Martial Arts. At one point a ridiculously powerful enemy strips Doom naked and transports him millions of years into the past. Doom is attacked by a Prehistoric, "Lion". Victor kills it with a single punch from his bare hand. Then eats it, and uses the hide, bones etc to make a primitive version of his mask and armour.

Doom is what you get when you take Batman With Prep Time as your baseline for a character. And then Turn the Knobs up to 11.

Eh, he also regularly loses to a Stretch Armstrong and a dude made of rocks. 😉

I don’t like RDJ as Doom at all, but it’s definitely unexpected.

Would be interesting if it’s terrible and finally kills the MCU. RDJ brings it to life as Iron Man and ends it as Doom

That's precisely why I fancast Matthew Macfadyen as Doctor Doom back in 2012 because of his intimidating voice (not to mention he's a terrific actor). Unfortunately that option is now out since he's playing a different character in Deadpool & Wolverine.

If they intend to recast Doom after these movies it really makes the RDJ casting look more like a gimmick.

No build up either.. “Well.. here’s Dr. Doom!”

I would cast JJ Feild if they're looking for a late 40s or early 50s Doom.

Michael McElhatton if they're looking for Doom in their 60s.

Good point, and something I've been thinking about as well. Thanos was introduced as a cameo in Avengers(2012). That gave them six years, until Infinity War in 2018, to build up Thanos into the uber-Big Bad we all know and love.

While Doom has far more name recognition than Thanos, even among casuals, they have less than two years to build him into the ulitmate Big Bad of the MCU. Even hitting the ground running with all the fan-love RDJ brings to the role, that's not much time.

On the flip side, Hans Gruber, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, T-800, T-1000, Anton Chigurh, Hans Landa and many more villains did not need multiple movies to set them up.

would it be the worst thing in the world if they just did an hour and a half fun popcorn munching avengers movie introducing the new team against a silly but powerful and fun villain or bunch of villains instead of it having to be a continuity laced 6 films already planned strategy? Give me one of these and a lot of punch em up and one liner set pieces and then we can start to worry about "Phase 10 or 15" planning?

Give me a relaxing fun matchup versus any of these "minor" villains and I'm in...View attachment 1055045View attachment 1055043View attachment 1055044
That Avengers comic is one of the reasons I'm a big fan of the Absorbing Man. I also had that Alpha Flight comic.

I agree with you about wanting some fun villains and especially getting some villain teams going. It doesn't always have to be a bout the "BIG BAD". Give me the Masters of Evil, Wrecking Crew, Sinister Six, Serpent Society, etc.

Feild looks so familiar, yet the only thing i’ve seen him in is the first Captain America movie, which i’ve only seen once. since watching Femme, George McKay has solidified his spot as my #1 fancasting choice for a Doom if they want to try to pull it off w/ a late 30s/early 40s actor once we get there. only issue might be how youthful he looks, & will probably still look in 5ish+ years, but that’s nothing a Doom mask can’t fix lol

i’d def be down for Roose as Doom if they want to go older though.

I became a fan of JJ Feild after watching his terrific performance in Turn: Washington's Spies (underrated show which everyone should check out). He also could replace Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

My ideal person was Mads Mikkelsen, but same problem after he was wasted in Dr Strange.

I wish Charles Dance was 20 years younger. Talk about ideal casting.

Charles Dance is also my top choice as Doom back in 2012. It was either him or Macfadyen for Doom. Eventually I settled with Dance as Galactus since I needed my Doom to sorta match Reed's age since they were college roommates.

Mads would be good as Doom... if they dubbed all his lines. <lol>
