You think a director can have a personal touch on a late phase MCU film...

There is a reason they pick guys / girls who did not direct large scale stuff.
Raimi I think a bit of his style came though although by this stage he obviously more "work to order".

Stuff like Shang Chi and the Eternals I ddint see much of the directors hand but perhaps the people who actually helped create the MCU style might be more sucessful? seems like people with semi comedy backgrounds and a larger than life style are much better suited to it as well than people making low key arthouse dramas.

I don’t like RDJ as Doom at all, but it’s definitely unexpected.

Would be interesting if it’s terrible and finally kills the MCU. RDJ brings it to life as Iron Man and ends it as Doom
I hate the idea of RDJ as Doom.

The main rationale seems to be, this is not Tony Stark or any variant of Stark as Doom and is just a variant of Doom, in infinite timelines who has RDJ face. A spin on the infinite monkeys typing...

So what they would be saying with the above is 'we already had Josh Brolin play both Thanos and Cable and no one took issue with it... so why not?'

The 'why not' is because Thanos was a CGI character, so many fans, especially casuals were not sitting around waiting for Cable to realize he was Thanos, prior and i have no doubt that if many, especially casual movie goers, see RDJ as Doom, they will expect the Avengers and others to try and appeal to the Tony inside, in the same way Captain America, appealed to the Bucky, inside the Winter Soldier, to snap him in to different reality, he also once lived.

IMO there are so many great actors who could do a great Doom without the distraction of 'isn't that Tony Stark... a good guy', and waiting for the opposite of a heel turn.

^ But if me must then lets bring back them all. Chris Evans should not play Johnny Storm again, lets make him the new cyclops. And so on and so on.

Just make Evans play Captain Hydra from Secret Empire. AKA, "Stevil". 👿

I agree with a lot of what you're saying about RDJ playing Doom. But given they only have two years before the next Avengers movie, they won't have time for an Origin Story. So RDJ will wear the mask from day one. Add in a voice-changer and there won't be any visual or audible clues that link Doom to Tony Stark.

I’m not going to get bent out of shape about RDJ. It’s a fun casting and I’m sure he’ll do great with the role.

Like i said then, lets bring back the entire cast from the Avengers movie as they were a fun cast with great chemistry. With the new Xmen needing casting they offer the perfect vehicle.

RDJ as Doom. Evans at Cyclops. Scarlett as Rogue. and so on and so on.

I am only half joking. If the thought is 'we liked them so lets recycle them,' ...then why not?

Charles Dance is also my top choice as Doom back in 2012. It was either him or Macfadyen for Doom. Eventually I settled with Dance as Galactus since I needed my Doom to sorta match Reed's age since they were college roommates.

Mads would be good as Doom... if they dubbed all his lines. <lol>
Can Dance do a Eastern European accent?

Nah, don’t be a baby about it. RDJ was the most important part of these movies. Letting him come full circle to play a villain is fun.

I’m sure we’re not going to see his face at all, so doing the performance capture/voice will be the extent. Looking forward to it.

I'm not being a baby about it. I don't think sites like this are reserved for cheerleading only and both applause and critique can be fair game.

My view, is him being the biggest part of the prior series is exactly why he should not roll into a new top character in the immediately following series of connected movies. If he was a lesser character (Michelle Yeoh with a minor role in GoTG and a major one in Shang-Chi) then, no problem.

let me ask you this. Would you be ok with Chris Evans just playing the Human Torch again with this nex F4? What if he never played him in the Fox-verse... ok then? Or an F4 other baddie? What about Patrick Stewart as Magneto in the new Xmen movies?

Jonathan Majors is getting roasted on social media right now, the announcement of RDJ probably allows them to pivot quietly from Kang but do they kill him off? Ignore him? Recast eventually? He died on his way back to his home planet?

Good point, and something I've been thinking about as well. Thanos was introduced as a cameo in Avengers(2012). That gave them six years, until Infinity War in 2018, to build up Thanos into the uber-Big Bad we all know and love.

While Doom has far more name recognition than Thanos, even among casuals, they have less than two years to build him into the ulitmate Big Bad of the MCU. Even hitting the ground running with all the fan-love RDJ brings to the role, that's not much time.
Really though whilst we got the first little reveal of Thanos in 2012 its not like he actually featured that much before Infinity War, a supporting role in the first Guardians film was the main thing.

What was built up more of course were the Infinity Stones and I kind of suspect these films may exploit some of the hype for the multiverse war rather than just binning that story(havent seen Deadpool 3 yet so no idea what effect that may have had). I think the actual multiverse itself and the threat of conflict has been built up pretty well personally, Kang himself maybe not the most threatening villian but I could see some kind of plot were by Doom somehow replaces him.

The main issue I think they'll be dealing with is do they have the characters to work with? Infity War/End Game they had a great cast of characters which they themselves had helped to do a lot of the build-up for.

Have Doom kill off the Council of Kangs, just to show how much of a different level he's on.

Yeah I hope there's some sort of resolution with Kang, Marvel already showed a ton of them seemingly ready to do something.

Easy sidestep would of been having the High Evolutionary revealed to be a Kang variant and maybe using HE's actor, Chukwudi Iwuji, in the role of Kang here on out.

I liked what they were doing with Kang in the Loki series, but Feige/Marvel totally shit the bed having a Kang killed in his introduction movie. Kang should have maybe killed Pym and Van Dyne while Ant-Man, Wasp, and Stinger escaped. But no, Marvel decided to make a terrible movie instead. Marvel got "lucky" with Majors' personal life so that they can try to recover a fumble.

well, if they do recast Doom post-Secret Wars/Doomsday, Gorgeous George MacKay & Charles Melton will be almost 40, & i think either of them would be great, so maybe one of them could take over as the not-lazy-bullshit Doom at that point

Cillian Murphy would be my number one choice to play MCU Doom. There would also be a nice synchronicity to the casting, given he and RDJ starred in Openheimer.

Basically no one cares about any MCU shows.
The last one people cared about was Book Of Bobba Fett, and that mostly killed the appeal... and Mandolorian Season 3.

Kathleen Kennedy apparently is incapable of being fired, no matter how much she destroys Star Wars or Indiana Jones.

I'm convinced that bitch has the CCTV tapes from Epstien's Island. There's no other pluasable explanation as to why she still has a job.

Saying “well why don’t they just bring back everyone then?!” Is pretty babyish.

No one said you had to like it, you quoted me saying I was wrong for thinking RDJ will be fun as a villain lol.

lmao they will do that “iron man” thing where even though he’s wearing a mask everyone can see his face.

If they show his face, it’s a terrible decision
If they don’t show his face, then why even cast him, still a terrible decision.

It’s pure soy-baiting.

“OMG WOWWWIIE, RDJ IS RETURNING TO THE MCU AS A VILLAIN!!!”
(says the 40 year old man child)

If they show his face, it will be interesting to see what level of scarring they go with. Doom suffering life-changing facial injuries is a central part of his character., but how ugly he looks varies from artist to artist.
