Aspinall doesn't seem sure about how good he really is

I know a lot of smart people who think they aren't. Good leaders who would rather not be, but then they have ice in their veins when shit hits the fan. Nothing wrong with being humble and realistic in understanding how things can change. Some ppl need to create an aura of invincibility in their mind to mask their insecurity while others can be open about it and still succeed.

I mean there are still unknowns. He's never been in a war. But I'm confident that he's just too fast for this version of Jones.

That's great he doesn't have the same mentality like the average sherdogger who thinks Aspinall has no flaws in his game. .
He has not shown any flaw in his UFC fights, it's not wrong to point that out.
Obviously he knows more about himself than us sherdoggers.

Edit: I'm wrong he did show he was hitable and tends to leave his chin exposed. But Jones has very little KO threat, so not too relevant for their fight.

I don't think this is lack of confidence, this is an intelligent person who's aware (more so than lots of other fighters) that their ceiling might not be as high as they would hope

The fact that he's lining up other possibilities outside of MMA competition I think shows someone who has a much higher awareness of how fickle professional competition can be, and how quickly it can get yanked from beneath you. Lots of people put all of their eggs in the MMA basket, and come out mentally ruined, CTEd and broke

"Jon we talked about that in the locker room.

If you do that again ... I'm gonna give you a warning! "
I reckon extended fingers should be permissible for biting, as the only exception. Can't bite them if they're not extended!

I have to give him credit for being open about the fact that the roller coaster ride might tend and that Jones exposes him.

But its also alarming. There is something about his game he feels isn't a 100% backed up.

Aspinall was on Logans podcast a few hours ago and talks about alternative life paths in the short term if it all collapses in the UFC.

THe fact the he even thinks about that openly suggests to me that he isnt overly confident. He probably thinks hes got 30-40% chance against Jon.
What are you on about?
We’ve had champs with full time normal jobs in ufc before… especially in the HW division.

In modern era Stipe has been a fireman before, during, and after his whole UFC career.

In old school era Shane Carwin has been an electric engineer before, during, and after his UFC career as well.

On a side semi-related note, any athlete not investing in something outside their sport for the future is a dumbass (history proved that many times).

Oh and Tom is sometimes annoyingly too nice and humble (bless his heart). Don’t read too much into it.

Jones always could just eyepoke you and the fight is over for you.
It's heavyweights, a lot can happen there
havent seen jon eyepoke someone then finish them
pretty sure youd get a free time to recover after getting poked
or am i wrong

Watch the interview. Hes fully prepared to crash and burn and look for something else to do.

Not sure why he feels the Jones fight will make or break him..

Tom has said many times that he believes he is the best heavyweight and just wants to prove it against Jon. So no, he doesn't think he's only 30-40% to beat Jon.
He has to say that.

Jones is better than me, give me the fight Dana.. wont cut it.

He's never been taken down in the UFC

And not sure what that has to do with speed.

It has nothing to do with Speed.. that's My point. Jones is not going to spar him.. hes going to take him down and not let a single glove touch his face. Exactly like he did gane

That had nothing to do with his confidence when fighting, it just proves that Tom isn't a dummy.

Tom said he finished 5 top 10 guys in the first round. That should tell you his confidence.

That's a good sign. Overconfidence can lead to disasters in MMA (among other activities). He seems confident enough.

Just like he took down Santos and Reyes whenever he wanted right?

Aspinall is a much better grappler and way bigger stronger faster than them too.

Jon used to go partying a week before a fight so he could have a built in excuse if he lost. Not being overly confident isn't a bad thing.
