Tom is self-aware unlike Sherdoggers. He knows:
- He's been submitted before by a can and isn't some unstoppable defensive master grappler
- His TKO loss to Blaydes wasn't a fluke injury but the result of him getting countered and dropped which injured the leg from him going down
- That leg injury may or may not still affect him, he's only fought for 3 min since his return so only he knows
- He's made reckless mistakes that have DQ'd him previously
- He's never fought past the 7 minute mark and has no idea how his cardio or will to win will react if it gets tested
- He's fighting a guy who's never been KO'd, submitted, or decisioned, who's biggest apparent weakness for Tom to exploit seems to be that he's finally getting older after being champ since Tom was still in high school
Is it still the fight between #1 and #2 to make? Sure. But Tom isn't the unstoppable invulnerable guy Sherddogers pretend he is. That's what actually makes the fight interesting: Jon's slowed down but Tom still has weaknesses so it's anybody's fight. Sherdoggers only seem interested in the fight by contrast because they think Tom's invincible so they're hoping see Jones finally loses after all this time.

Tom was on a 1 fight win streak over Tybura. Of course he took a free title shot on short notice lol. He had absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.
