Tesla and US Gov Agree to Open Tesla Charger Network to All EVs

Tesla, for the first time, will open a portion of its U.S. Supercharger and Destination Charger network to non-Tesla EVs, making at least 7,500 chargers available for all EVs by the end of 2024. The open chargers will be distributed across the United States. They will include at least 3,500 new and existing 250 kW Superchargers along highway corridors to expand freedom of travel for all EVs, and Level 2 Destination Charging at locations like hotels and restaurants in urban and rural locations. All EV drivers will be able to access these stations using the Tesla app or website. Additionally, Tesla will more than double its full nationwide network of Superchargers, manufactured in Buffalo, New York.
Tesla to double Supercharger network in the US as it opens it to non-Tesla EVs, White House says | Electrek

that large bill grant or low interest govt loan for sure

Not for or against. But absolutely against the complete SCAM that is the politics surrounding EVs. If you think that'll clean up the environment, you are sorely mistaken.

Better cycle/transit oriented city infrastructure would be better.

Walkable, ridable communities FTW

I invested my points the last time one of these threads were done. Seemed a lot of people had no clue as to how much money one can save driving electric as opposed to other similarly priced vehicles.

I had solar installed. I paid nothing and now have a loan at 1%

My monthly payments are the same as my electric bill was. Getting a Chevy Bolt new for 23k. Good by gas bill.

Can they though. There is no similarly priced ev to a corolla.

And even near price parity id take a lexus for a few k less and pay for gas and have a proper interior over the dog shit tesla like interiors most evs copied.

Personly id like a MachE, with a proper interior.

You buy a car for two reasons:

1) Daily driver efficiency, safety, and comfort.

2) Zombie apocalypse reliability.

Good luck charging your EV during the world's end.
solar panels and battery at home???

Hybrid, never full electric. That's stupid.

My step bother's got a Honda on order that self charges though which sounds like a no brainer. @Tone C any light to shed on this? From what I can gather it's like a dynamo.

Charging stations aren't prevalent enough for me to make the change yet.
They're plentiful here. Till PG&E's power goes down due to our floods and storms or wildfires. Then you're fucked unless you made the smart purchase and bought a hybrid where you can fill up with gas as well.

Nope. You're talking to someone who owns a 2002 Nissan gas guzzler.....

I am however in favour of electric chairs for :eek::eek::eek::eek:philes and rapists .

I have a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to electric. The two most popular reasons I've heard for getting one boils down to them being "good for the environment" or just EVs being the shiny new toy on the block. The whole "good for the environment" thing is silly to me as a Californian not living in the Bay Area, since many of the Tesla owners around me end up commuting 100+ miles per day round trip.

Like dude, take the train that's a 10min walk away from your house. Or, you know, live like it's not 2005 and just work from home.

Personally I'll be driving my Honda until it breaks down, then I shall fix it and drive it some more. One day I'll fix it for the last time, then hand it down to one of my children, and them to their child. When I one day feel like "saving the environment" or whatever related narrative California tries to push on me, well maybe I'll just drive less, work from home more, and ride my bike to the store when I need groceries like I already do.

And when I want something shiny and new, I'll be a fucking man and get something loud enough to set off my neighbor's car alarms.

Poll is a weird question to be honest.
Are you for or against LCD vs Plasma tvs?
For or against land lines vs cell phones?
For or against e-readers vs paperback?

They have no soul. Nothing like a fire breathing V8 that you can here roaring off in the distance as it pounces on its prey.

@TeTe @Cherdawg
Very true and the funny thing is, people love to use the advancing vs old technology argument but EVs have been around for over 100 years. There's nothing new about the tech. Yet it never took off.

I assume it has to do with battery tech reaching a tipping point, but I'd be interested into knowing for sure.

Kinda like how all of a sudden there were those little electric RC helicopter toys in all the stores. I assume it was batteries got light enough to make it viable.

To say there's nothing new about battery technology doesn't sit right.
You could also say that the wheel hasn't fundamentally changed from what was used on a buggy 150 years ago to those now found on a Corvette. True and not true at the same time.

Everything you say here is correct, with the real answer being alternative transport solutions. Cars in general are terribly inefficient as a mode of transport (and I don't mean about emissions or whatever), but society has groupthinked their way into believing they need the latest and greatest 3 ton behemoth for the school run and grocery trips.

I like EVs as cars, but the real payoff is even further beyond that. The sooner we reach the next horse and cart to motorcar revolution, the better.

I admit generally I'm not an "early adopter" with new tech of any kind simply because I think your often paying a premium for something which is still evolving rapidly but I'm guessing I maybe in the market for a new car in 3-4 years and may consider it then.

Because of the tax incentives, they are cheaper though than fossil fuel cars. Range was my biggest con a few years back, but with increased range its a no brainer.
