How many decades until every vehicle goes electric in your opinion?
I don't know honestly.
2 things must be achieved before that happens - greater (by orders of magnitude) stable power output, new batteries that hold more power and charge faster.
They scammed us with "new batteries will take over in 5 years" for 20 years now so I don't know. Experimental graphene cells seem to be nice but I haven't seen them in a commercial product yet, and eco-activist idiots pretty much fucked up nuclear power, which is by far superior to every other means we can get energy from.

Nicely said, thanks.

Performance like barely anything else on the road, as well as never having to set foot inside a service station ever again makes it a no brainer for me.
Electric vehicles break down a lot, though. Look up the statistics. They still have suspension and a lot of electronics that are prone to failure.

I drove through some flooded streets in SF last month, and my buddy took his Model Y through some pretty high waters. Can't really do that very well with an internal combustion car.

ur saying the tesla runs better through water?

Cobalt is an issue though to allay my concerns they could just include a photo of the child slave they crushed into my battery since nobody is going to do anything to fix the problem
They dont have to mine it. Or they could use machinery?

To clarify my post, me saying "service station" refers to what we call gas stations in my country. I would be using at home solar for charging.

Does that change your post?

I know EVs still require maintenance.

If you mean to talk about general reliability, my timeline for EV take up is still likely 5-7 odd years away, give or take, so don't feel any apprehension early model problems as I would expect such issues to be resolved by this point.

All cars have suspension and electronics, that's not an EV specific issue.

I am not for or against electric vehicles. For some jobs EVs seem like no brainers.

Great jobs for EVs are:
Postal trucks
Delivery vans
city commuter vehicles where range is not needed.

I think PIH currently makes the most sense with how limited the charging network is.

I bought a new truck last year, and would have got a PIH if it was available. Instead only a regular hybrid was offered. I went with the ICE option.

I see, thanks for elaborating. Much appreciated.

Just as an FYI, the people who say electric vehicle production isn't environmentally friendly don't know what they're talking about.

There isn't a single industrial process on earth that's fully environmentally friendly. That's not the relevant question - the question is, what's the damage being done, is it manageable, what's it's scope of damage etc in reference to the problem we're trying to solve.

With electric vehicles, think of it this way. Ever increasing carbon emissions are cancer. Electric vehicle production is chemotherapy. Yes, chemotherapy damages your body and makes you sick. But the damage of chemotherapy is completely trivial and irrelevant when you're trying to stop cancer.

Well said man, thanks.

Relative to normal cars pro. But I'm generally against cars and highways in general. They are a big part of why our world sucks so much. We need to make everything walkable right now everythings an island.

Lets see if that 15 minute cities project will take off.

That does change my post, yes. Good that you can charge your car at home, it sure makes it easier for everyday commute. If you only drive in the city and close suburbs EVs are good.
For me though they are unacceptable yet, because I like to travel by car, in the range of 500-1000 kilometers per day, in winter as well as in summer. Modern EVs can't do that, I'd spend half of the day charging.

Don't worry Greta, Electric cars will make the world a better place...

Very pro.
I'm very surprised the libertarian types are so fervently against them. All you need is a solar panel or a wind turbine etc. You can be completely independent.

Shit hits the fan you're going to go through a lot more trouble making your own gas or even bio diesel.

We need to make sure companies treat the people who mine the colbalt properly.

Most folks would be completely fine with the range they offer. I always come back to the fact that everyone drives way shorter distances than they think.

We need better mass transit that runs on electricity.

More walkable or even E-bike rideable cities.

ICE cars are silly out dated poor efficiency tech.
Yeah until the battery craps out. As if it’s that easy.
