Israel does have very close connections in U.S MIC, especially R&D and U.S does needs them...badly...
Israel does support U.S MIC corporations more than U.S is supporting Israel, however average rural rednecks doesn't knows that Israel is purchasing stuff from U.S oligarchates for more $ than U.S is supporting their own MIC oligarchates via " support " for Israel.

Average redneck needs some few minutes long short brainwashing lessons on daily basis and will be tired to listen or read something longer than 5 minutes...

I think that AIPAC is just the most acceptable face of the influence.

And I don't think Netanyahu is at the top, I agree he'd be dispensed with if necessary. I think at the top are a bunch of wealthy families that have used Israel since it's inception. There's no public facing idiot that isn't a puppet.

Its what is driving global wealth disparity. It will only change with a great deal of blood, potentially the end of the world as we know it, at this point.
 
All this support is actually support for U.S jobs and companies, taxman etc. Not only in military stuff sales for nice profits , also other industries.
