Are fighters like McGregor a dying breed?

if they give him Manny Gamburian then you know it's all BS

Genuine question.

After RDA pulled out, McGregor is still penned in to fight. McGregor can be over-the-top and come across as rather narcissistic but I feel from this current situation, you can't help but respect his true fighting spirit. He has nothing to gain by fighting on 196 and has everything to lose yet, unlike 99% of the roster, he will always show up and fight regardless. MMA has gone away from warriors that will fight to more and more strategic pull-outs and boring point-fighting.
How does he have everything to lose? He will still be a champ and be paid handsomely... he is already prepared for a fight. most fighters would do the same thing. he could lose but that is every fight, no fighter is afraid to lose.

The logic of Conor fans... Let him back up his word and fight. He never deserved the title shot in the first place, let him fight a top 5 opponent to prove he even deserves it.

Prove it? He Ko'd aldo in 13 seconds, Ko'd mendes too.

Who cares anyway? posters like you will just move the goal posts, he'll wreck a top five guy it wont matter because of short notice.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying he has nothing to gain. He has millions to gain. He's been very clear about this. He throws legacy to the wind as long he's getting paid. He's signs to fight the best but will fight anyone as long as that check clears.

He loses everything because it will hurt his popularity greatly. He will have got paid, but alot of people pay to see if he'll finally lose and losing here will lead to him losing alot of his appeal.

And the issue is most fighters nowadays wouldn't. Jones said no. Aldo refused to fight and Werdum switched once the opponent changed. Fighters are afraid of losing that's why they pull out so often; they don't want to take any risks. McGregor, on the other hand, is all about taking risks and showing up and that's why he's part of a dying breed.

He isn't a dying breed, because there was never anyone like him in the first place.

If I'm a talented fighter (which I'm not) and I find myself in his situation. It's simple, I'm not interested in Cowboy, Showtime, Ferguson, Khabib and probably not Nate either so fair play to Conor. He'd literally fight in any condition at any time or any place.

He gains money but adds little compared to what he could lose. It's essentially a throwaway fight with no gain for McGregor if he wins. If he loses, on the other hand, it hurts his image and appeal.

This is what I'm trying to show but people will just hate regardless. He's a true fighter.

He has nothing to gain? You mean besides a few million dollars against an easier opponent taking the fight on less than 2 weeks notice?

I think I may have heard he likes money a lil bit...

THEY ARE DEFENDING CHAMPS. Connor is simply taking an exhibition fight with no stakes. Losing And having his popularity etc effected is not a factor here because that's the risk with every fight.

Conor himself puts it best in his recent interview with Irish hack media site severely fanboy MMA:

That's what martial arts is all about. Somewhere along the line it became something else. How many times have you seen a champion instantly go up? How many years have you heard about super fights this dat and noting? How many times have you heard about little sore toe and opponents bounce? Tere're pussies everywhere in dis sport.

Conor bless

Dying breed? Cant be serious…

There are plenty of fighters always willing to show up no matter what no matter who. Two of them fought eachother sunday. Just because some fighters are now interested more in having a pretty record doesn't mean all are. Conor is good but why the fuck do some fans keep try to give him more credit than any other fighter for something allot of fighters do.

I know they are defending champions. Fighting a title fight, defending a title and fighting toward a title fight have something to gain. This fight has nothing to gain for McGregor. It's merely a throw away fight which, if he loses, he loses alot and if he wins, he gains nothing. I don't think you understand the point about losing. Yes, losing is part of the sport but the risk of losing has to be compared to the gain of winning. McGregor gains nothing if he wins and loses everything if he loses including a possible title shot. On the other hand, other fighters take these fights because they have something to gain by winning. It's not that difficult.

He gets a loss, which is the risk with every fight. he gains a lot too, that same kind of rep Silva and others have gotten for taking on fights in different weight classes. that is a HUGE gain

Everyone would show up, besides Jones. Conor fans hate Cerrone but Cerrone does this shit all the time.

Also, why did Conor turn out Khabib? dying breed indeed

Werdum. You are correct that Cerrone would be there. But like Conor he seems to be the exception. Fans like fighters who fight.

As an aside, James Krause fought for the seventh time in his UFC career this weekend and I vaguely remembered him as the guy who choked Cruickshank. Yet I've likely seen every one of his fights. Seven fights in three years just isn't often enough to make the impression needed. Nothing against the guy, he fought well against Campbell, but when and if they can, fighters ought to take every opportunity to fight and to put themselves in front of the fans.

Firstly, the stakes for Conor's fights are much greater than the majority of the roster. Secondly, I pointed out that it was a 'dying breed' not a dead one. There are still fighters that show up and perform no matter what, Saying that, how many top fighters would take a fight with everything to lose and nothing to gain. Very few.
