Apple Products are Overpriced & Overrated.

I run several old PC on Linux.
They will run for years to come.

Will never touch Apple again.
LOL at thinking Apples hardware will run longer..
I have run Linux on 20 year old PC no problem.
I am running Linux on a +10 year old PC no problem and have never had to change any hardware.

I never had an interest in their computers because I've always liked building, using, and gaming on PC.

I had an iPod Touch and an iPod Shuffle and they were both great. I have an iPad that I got for free from my bank and I like that, but don't have a ton of use for it.

And then there's the iPhone. I had used Android for 15 years but decided to get an iPhone 14 Plus to see if I preferred it. Hardware and build quality is fantastic. I don't really have any complaints there. There are things that piss me off with the software, though. The keyboard is atrocious. The autocorrect is atrocious. The predictive text is atrocious. The voice-to-text is atrocious. It's worse than any Android phone I can ever remember using. But there are alternatives to that at least to help alleviate it.

I also don't like how the BT likes to kinda-sorta automatically connect to my truck, but not really. Like, it will automatically take calls in my truck, even if I'm not in my truck, which is extremely frustrating (especially when you're trying to call emergency services!). And yet if I want to just listen to some fucking music in my truck via BT I have to do that manually? It doesn't make any sense.

I did just get an Apple Watch earlier this year, though, and I love that thing. Very well built, and very useful. I had a Fitbit and a friend had a Garmin and they both suck compared to the Apple Watch. Honestly it's probably what will keep me from going back to Android.

A cat running Linux, what a time to be alive.

Apple products are a status symbol with a cult-like following. When Buffett bought them he didn't even consider them a tech company; instead, he thought of them as a consumer goods company.

I like their products. I've had plenty of iPads and even still have my old ipod somewhere. Never owned an iphone though. Good stuff but the brand loyalty isn't just about technological innovation.

I take it back actually, bought the first MBP in 2004 which albeit slow still boots up, had various Dell, Tosh, Lenovo as interims, bought a refurb 2009 MBP in 2017ish which still works. It just got a little too slow for my programming needs. So this is my 3rd MBP since 2004. Pretty decent for the scratch.

I bought a MacBook Pro for my wife like 15 years ago. It still works fine.

Show me one Windows OS and computer that could go that long without the OS shitting itself, or the hardware failing.

I have several Lenovo T and W-series laptops which are 10-15 years old, they're all still running fine on the original Windows install. Heck, I'm typing this post with one of those laptops right now. I have a much newer computer which is way faster for video editing, but for everything else I do there's almost no difference between my old computers and the new one.

Husband's worked for them twice, and currently employed by them but we didn't know that when I bought my first MBP in 2004.

Why would you have several computers?

I’ve been using iPhones since they came out and the only problem I’ve ever had was a bad battery on the iPhone 6 which they replaced for free. I can’t imagine I’d ever switch off iPhone.

The brand loyalty for me is that they work. Since T Mobile bought Sprint I don't get the free iphone when a new model is released like I did before so I think mine's 5 years old now. Still works perfectly, no need to consider upgrading for years unless they change proprietary wise like chargers not being available etc.

Exactly. If you're a PC gamer and/or want to tinker with shit it's not for you. If you just want it to work and not have to be a hobbyist it hits the spot.

Seriously. I've owned a ton of Windows machines HP, Tosh, Lenovo and Dell. They're pretty much expendable rather than the investment of a MBP. This is my 4th Macbook Pro since 2004 and two of them still boot up.

They're well worth the money. "Buy cheap, buy twice" is a good strategy considering they last forever. I think the only MBP I've had to retire was because my cat knocked a glass of wine over it.
Were those windows machine as expensive as your mbp? Windows laptops have everything from consumer grade, to gaming(this has its own tier as well) and mobile workstations. You might be comparing an entry level kia with a Lexus.

I might have been in the industry for 16 years and know what's expendable and worth it ROI wise.

My Asus 17in laptop is April 2014 vintage.
So it's over 11yrs old, still works fine, running on windows 7 ultimate .
I have upgraded to twin SSD internal drives but that was just to get the read/write speed advantage.

Apple might actually be the definition of EVIL.

Watch in full.

Hard to trust anything you see from Jon Stewart once you realize the interviews are like 45 mins long and edited down to like 10 minutes.

Good stuff but the brand loyalty isn't just about technological innovation.

Apple is like Makita. Yes, they make some really good stuff but the guys who make a whole lifestyle out of it are tiresome.

Especially when they're just hobbyists who buy contractor level hardware they use 4 times a month but talk about all day every day.
