Anyone know about this Coach and gym?

My bet is that he got Leo to sign for his IBJJF card application but I doubt he has the IBJJF certificate with two degrees on it.

I completely agree with this sentiment, and the rest of your post. "BJJ Black Belt" isn't a generic grappling skill level; it's the culmination of years spent training in a specific grappling style.

This matters because a person from a different grappling style may well have the ability to defeat a BJJ Black Belt under the ruleset that BJJ uses, but that wouldn't mean that he had a well-rounded understanding of the various techniques that comprise BJJ as an art. E.g., A sambo guy who can submit BJJ black belts by going for leg locks from inside the guard may not know very much about passing the guard, which is a critical aspect of BJJ.

(oh, BTW, I tried t-shirt choking with the grip you mentioned. You were right, it works well.)

Nihilism FTW!

More like delusion.

Just a quick reminder to the fellow Sherdog posters: your join date does NOT, I repeat, does NOT qualify you to even think you have authority to call out somebody. It's just a number.

So we can't discuss on how Leo promotes people to BJJ bb?

Why not?

No need for lol.

This thread is all about Leo Dalla and his standard to promote to bb.

So now you also have authority on the forum to stop me from laughing? You make me laugh homeboy.

Posters with big balls ITT.

Do you find it funny?

That another Leo Dalla black belt/student (or maybe 2) is getting scrutinised on F12.

I think it is not funny at all.

Maybe you have a strange sense of humour!

Seems like dude took the easier/quicker way to a BJJ black belt. That speaks to overall character and might not be someone the OP want to train under.

There probably aren't that many other options in Frederick, MD. There's Jeff Gordon's in Gaithersburg or Yamasaki in Rockville, but both of those are over a half hour away.

Lol. I was training in MoCo but the over your drive is killing me. 30 min isn't right. It's more of an hour. For me at least. In my sit I need close

But he could kick your ass on the mats though, correct?

Of course we could roll and see the result.

That's one reason I don't see the need to make up a different lineage. It just seems wrong. If you are good on the mat, you are good on the mat. It doesn't have to be BJJ for that skill to be respected.

Yeah being good and getting a semi fake lineage makes any success seem tainted

So basically, all this fuzz and commotion you cause is just to express your emotions about him, knowing you are very insignificant to the BJJ community in regards of power?

Is this your case too ElKarlo? As far as I know, neither of you are BB or have power in BJJ, so why call out people like this? What exactly are you trying to do?

Sure it is to express my view on the matter. That's what a thread like this is for.

If you don't like my view, that's okay. Ignore it. I know you already do anyway as a default so continue on with that.

I'm glad the grip worked out for you. Now you can join T-Shirt Top Team.

You mean... you just come on this discussion board to discuss topics? You log on to this message board to post messages that contain your thoughts!!??

Don't you see how pointless it is?! Don't you?!

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES OF TUBES???!

Yeah I mean I think this is actually a pretty good topic to chew on. It's a tough one. It's easy to be disgusted with a clear scumbag like Lloyd, but this guy seems to have a pretty interesting situation.

I watched that guy's video version of his story, and he seems pretty sincere. He comes off as pretty likeable to me. I also like a lot of what he said about the martial arts in general and finding your own path.

Really the part that I don't like is the sudden switch to BJJ. In the video, he says that the main reason he sought out a BJJ black belt was due to peer pressure from people talking about him. That's just not a positive motivation.

I think all in all I would probably still check the guy out. The funny belt promotion is a strong negative for me, but I could probably get over it if everything else was in line.

It is a pretty interesting topic to discuss though I think. Usually guys with sketchy promotions are true frauds like Ari. This guy seems to be much different. It really makes you question what is the right thing to do.

WOW! First let me say that I appreciate all the hype! lol

Guys, it's simple. I have been "Practicing BJJ" for over 20 years. I have been in the scene for a long time and have many connections and friends in the BJJ community who can easily confirm my ranking in BJJ.

While I never had a BJJ instructor, I have both trained with and competed in BJJ with some of the best in the world. Although I practiced BJJ all the time, I never claimed to teach BJJ in the past since I did not have an Instructor and I knew that would be fraudulent.

I met Leo Dalla about 8 years ago at this point and have trained with him and his team from time to time. Because of threads like these, I approached Leo Dalla 2 years ago about earning an official rank in BJJ. I didn't pay Dalla a dime for his help. He told me that he believed I was worthy of a 2nd Degree Black Belt and that he would help me get certified through the IBJJF. So with his help, thats what I did.

NOW I claim to teach BJJ because I AM a Certified 2nd Degree BJJ Black Belt under the only REAL BJJ federation there is. I use the word "Certified" on my website because of threads like these. I don't hide anything from anyone. I put my WHOLE story on my website so people will know right away what the deal is.

I am NOT a black Belt in something I never trained in. I have put countless hours of sweat and blood in training BJJ for over 20 years. Just because I didn't have a BJJ instructor doesn't mean I have never trained BJJ.

I know it is a waste of time to try to convince anyone of my experience and ability to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I openly invite anyone to come try my Academy out for free. If you have anything bad or negative to say after doing so I will openly take your criticism. On the flip side, I would appreciate your testimony if you come to train and then realize how foolish this all is. I have no hard feelings toward any of you guys. If you want to come check us out I kindly welcome you. We have a great team and training environment for ANYONE to come train with. I can GUARANTEE that you will have a great experience and different opinion after training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with our team at the Clinch Academy in Frederick Maryland.

Thanks for the response. That's a very fair invitation.

I think you understand where the questions are coming from. It also sounds like you had a pretty unique situation so it's fair to ask us to try to be understanding of that as well.

Do you have a training schedule on your site? If I can find a good time, I'd like to take up your invitation to stop by if that is okay.

Also, it seems like the top video on clinchacademy.com is marked private so it won't play for most users. I just wanted to bring that to your attention in case you meant for it to be public and it got marked differently by accident.

Can you please clarify one thing?

Do you have a IBJJF membership card that states that your are 2 degrees BB (which Leo signed for your application)?

And/or

Do you have an IBJJF certiticate of BB 2 degrees?

Because I thought IBJJF would give you their certificate for 2 degrees as long as you keep paying your membership fee.

Then you got your IBJJF certificate for your BB at least 6 years, then every 3 years you send them 150 $ and ask for your new certificate.
