Any old school EverQuest players here?

Has anyone tried either Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen or Monsters & Memories? Both are EQ inspired MMO games. People seem to like Monsters and Memories much more. Can't really find many comparison videos but there's one here.


Pantheon is dead in the water. They have spent 12 years on the game, released a very limited early access that runs like shit, and still don't even have all of their classes or races. The game is pretty much already dead, which isn't surprising as someone who has watched it since it was anoucned forever ago. It wasn't looking great before Brad McQuaid passed, but it really went to shit without him.

Monsters and Memories is a bit of an unkown for me. It looks decent, but then the more I read the more a lot of it seems like making things "difficult" for the sake of making the game more old school. Thins like forced grouping for advancement, and having to actually talk to npcs to figure things out are great. Things like a lack of an in game map and being forced to use light sources in the dark don't add fun for me. It is the kind of thing I did not find fun in 1999 as a teenager, and I definitely will not find it fun now. I am going to give it a try next week in their next open phase, but it feels like they are going for the pure experience, instead of working with the things people loved and remembered and tweaking it a bit.
 
Making my way through PoP flagging. Not entirely sure what exactly is needed to progress. Bringing up the story window is nice on what you need to advance plane in the tiers, but I unlocked tier 2 before I unlocked all of tier 1, but then got held up in tier 3 with some stuff with tier 1. Taking some time now to just clear it all since it at least it powers up the charm.

Took out Rallos Zek this morning in the plane of tactics and what a cluster of adds that fight was. Also took out The Sleeper and trying to figure out where my next grind spot is going to be. Plane of tactics seems to be pretty good filled with red cons at 61, but read plane of fire is a good spot to grind for exp and loot. Pretty close to that, so think I will camp there for a bit. Not quite flagged for progress but pretty close. Think I just need Solesk Ro.

Bummed i'll be on travel for 2 weeks over the next month leading up to the trial verdict. Keeping fingers crossed it can make it through. Project Quarem just came to a mutual agreement to keep running, so keeping positive thoughts.

In classic during PoP, Plane of Fire was the absolute best AA XP spot in the game, hands down. Groups would go to "Tables" camp near the entrance of the castle, and soloers (Mage, Necro, Sham, BL) would go to the walls near the entrance. Kiters could pull practically the entire field on the entrance side and AoE it all down. Decently geared/AA'ed Warriors (VT+) could pull the entire front yard and AoE it down with the riposte disc and an earthshaker (the price of them skyrocketed). After SoD, SK's with the 1.5/2.0 epic could pull both yards, activate their leechcurse disc and the epic and aoe everything down... It was fun times.

May as well just hit 65 first. Plane of Fire, and upstairs Tactics will still be red, and you will get all your spells that way.

Tactics also as AC augs that drop decently. Only need enchanted version of them as well, legendary adds little.

Shouldn't have any issues difficulty wise until the flagging for time, the 4 elemental planes.

Quarm is allowed to exist, but they neutered it. Player cap and no original content. But the person in charge of Quarm basically just threw themselves at the mercy of Daybreak. THJ is retaining legal counsel is willing to fight for themselves. I still doubt it sees a courtroom.

Had a few hours to kill before work so went and tried vex thal to get some clickies. Back in 02-03, I remember doing a full clear with a raid in the best guild on the server... and it took 11 hours.

I have cleared everything but AHR and one other boss I have to backtrack to kill and it only took 3 hours, lol. Loot is ok and AA xp has been surprisingly good. (Still 56, just shy of 1500 AA)

I think they nerfed the HP somewhat. But yeah, that place sucked. No real difficulty beyond massive HP pools. Pretty sure VT bosses had more hp than Quarm originally.

Ya the slimes especially, we'd call them "smoke breaks". Most of the melee would use the autorun glitch and go afk with auto attack on aimed at the corner the slime got pulled to because they would take like 20 minutes to kill...

The cheeky tanks started to turn the slimes at 11% when the slimes enraged to see who was afk. It was hilarious watching the afk dual wielders just gib themselves on enrage ripostes because they didnt come back in time to readjust or stop attacking, one rogue died almost every time and it became a bit of a ritual for him to gib himself on everything for the lols.

In other news: AHR down, no Gloves of the Crimson Sigil, and that bitch dropped the great shadow platemail I was next in line for that never dropped once for us back in the day :(

Pretty much what I'm doing now. Hitting The Sleeper when available for augs, then working on the level cap after working on a few AAs. Just about 64 now, so shouldn't be but one more morning session. The vendor trash has been great at PoF for stocking up on plat. Working on getting some better gear for pets before I start focusing on on augments. Wasn't planning on focusing on almy alt, but may swap over just to have another character who can fire up expeditions.

I did have about 30 min this morning waiting for the sleeper timer, and decided to take out a few dragons to upgrade some bags. Got 1 legendary, 2 enchanted, and 1 standard Karvuul Mystic Pouch. Was hoping for 2 total, and put a few in the bank for alt. Was able to rush them pretty quick so will probably add that to the daily cycle until I can ditch all the other bags. Was super nice when I finally got the Shadowsong Cloak from the Akhevia Ruins and could stop running that.

Yeah, I do the three overworld Kunark dragons and Sleepers when I do my rounds. Wish Sleepers tomb drops were worth more, but they give decent Tribue, so not all bad. Except for Faerune scales.

If you are around 1600 AA it is probably just better to hit 65. The improvements from higher spell levels, and ability to use 65 clickies will boost you a bit. So long as a mob is red it doesn't matter how red for AA. 4 levels higher or 10. And after the DN grind, PoFire is easily the best.

I am about at the point with my Sk that I am just buying stuff to spend AAs. Should probably grab a fure more Mystical Attuning at that 100aa price tag

I just hit 60 with 1548 aa's, have the key to fight Agnarr in BoT and from what ive read he's kind of the first "roadblock" boss in PoP, we'll see. Around 1500 you do hit a bit of a wall where a lot of the AA's are just filler or stuff like MA 14+ where its expensive as hell
 
Been messing around on a couple alts, and Holy hell do AA come even faster. I read it is something like 300% bonus until near your main, but still cool to see

Ya its a sirens song for starting a new char for sure. I think Ive decided on Monk/Pally/Bard. (SK is probably better in some ways than Pal but I played an SK main originally, and slay undead sounds super fun.)

One of my alts is a Pal/MNK/Enc and it is a blast on undead. Getting a flying kick slay for like 60000 at level thiry in lguk is hilarious. I am 55 in crypt of decay, and I cannot even target some mobs before they die on a riposte.

Pal/mnk/brd are a great combo. DPS won't be great, but not bad either, but your sustainability should be beyond high. One of the highest in game I believe.

I found the formula floating around out there for alt AA exp. It counts up all of the AA across the account and applies an exp bonus. The larger the count, the larger the bonus, up to the highest AA count on a single character. So the more characters and AA built up, the faster you can build AA in an alt.
 
Mith Marr, TZ, and VZ dead, only have RZ and Sol Ro's tower left for Elemental Planes access. Still lvl 60 and have yet to fight an encounter that isn't completely trivial with this setup. Between torpor, taps, and zevfeer's (+ all the heal AA synergy) its very hard to die unless I pull a train of red melee mobs, but sometimes even that isn't enough, lol

Yeah, by most accounts no one is very difficult until the Elemental Planes, and even then, not a ton of challenge. Some say RZ is the first test because of the adds, but I had virtually no AA, and brought them him down like nothing.
