Any old school EverQuest players here?

So exactly what I worried about happening happened. I got full on addicted. My guy is level 60 with around 2000 AAs. Just finished unlocking Planes of Power.

I don't know if you ever played Legacy of Ykesha, but those zones got added in with the Kunark unlock. 50/51 and Crypt of Nadox should be really good AAxp. Plus there is a zonewide Aug that drops that is pretty nice.

I would strongly suggest not levelling past 56. You can beat the Kunark dragons pretty easily there with like 300aas. Then you go to the Dragon Necropolis in Velious, and you can grind insane AAs. I was getting like 60-80 an hour, and people with kiting and ae abilities can double that easily. I went a bit overboard, but was able to kill Sleeper at 56.

Finished Luclin today, and so far the only boss I have trouble with was Emperor. I forgot you need a bane weapon to hurt him, so the fight took like 20 minutes of procs to kill him. Hadn't hit 60, so he resisted everything.

Same, I'm totally hooked. I pulled off at 56 to focus on AA's. Cleared the Velious content and grinding away some AA's to work on a Bard swarm build. Seen videos of people swarming the entire Umbral Planes zone and nuking them down with Dirge and racking 10k plat and dozens of AA in s single pull.

Only have about 200 AA right now, but spent a ton of time farming for the Mage and Bard epics. The Mage epic is insane with the Symbol of Ancient Summoning, boosting it to a level 65 pet at level 56. Absolutely crushes everything in DN.

Took a bunch of spare gear and started a WAR/MNK/SHM. Not playing him seriously, but nice to have a place to dump nice gear I can't use. Will probably play more now that I'm more invested in grinding AA and need a break.

Really taking a lot of willpower to not play this, EQ is probably one of my favorite games of all time and I know the hooks will get set deep

Normally I would say jump in, but DBG filed a lawsuit against them. They tried to issue a temporary restraining order until the suit date, but they came to an agreement that they could stay running until the trial date, but can't release any new content.

I've dumped a ton of hours in a short amount of time and will play until the wheels fall off the bus. If they get shut down I'll be sad, but got a lot of quality time in there. With no trial date set, it could be weeks, or it could be months away.

Nevermind you should totally play. I was 35 after the first weekend, and after my second long weekend when the wife and kids were out of town I ground out 2 epics.

So I knew that I shouldn't have started this, lol.

Started late last night.
Level 45 now. Just killed Nag and Vox and unlocked Kunark... this is awesome

Yyyyeeeaaaahhhh!!

What class makeup did you go with?

Originally went BRD/NEC/BST, but swapped NEC for MAG in before I hit Kunark. Glad I did, the MAG epic with Symbol of Ancient Summoning is beastly.

Nec/Dru/Shm

Pets, dots, buffs, debuffs, heals, massive mana regen, good DD spells, DS. It's been pretty fun. Not as tanky as I would like but once I get some defensive AA's and torpor/quiesence it will be better.

Before bed I got to 51 in Chardok and switched to AA's briefly to get no spell fizzle level 2 (no fizzle on spells up to 56) and 2 points into the cast through stuns. Pretty hilarious how plane of time weapons are so cheap, both my pets have Vanazir's until I save and get them the cleric dd/heal 1hdrs (hammer of holy vengeance)

Yeah, some of the stuff I see for sale is laughably cheap. Saw a guy selling the SHM epic for 8k plat. I know it's one of the easier epics, but 8k seems rock bottom. I thought for sure it would get scooped up quickly, but the guy was trying to sell for days. My next alt was planning on doing a WAR/MNK/CLR, but ended up having the plat from farming and scooped it up and swapped the CLR for SHM. It's clicky is level 1 so been tearing through the levels.

Saw the guy immediately go back to selling again for 8k. He either very efficiently farms them, or has some sort of exploit.

Regularly see BER and MNK go on sale for 50k and MAG for 110k. With how long it took me to farm some of the mage drops, I probably would have been better off farming plat and just outright buying it. Been farming in Umbral Planes for plat using Bard swarming and mobs are blue to yellow, so would have been racking up AA at the same time. If seen videos of people swarming the whole zone, but I like to do it in 1/4 zone chunks. Usually get about 5~7k for the whole zone for about 10min work, with the repop by the time I'm done. If I really ground it out I could save up enough to flat in a few hours.

Hit 65 today. Working on the Planes of Power flags currently. The tier 1 and 2 planes that I have done so far have been pretty easy. Though Plane of Innovation was just so annoying and long.

I did all of my epics at 51. Shaman epic literally takes less than an hour depending on how quick you can get through City of mist. Sk and Berserker epics were simple too, but worthless.

Doing a daily farm of the overworld Kunark dragons for lucky bag drops, and Sleeper for augs. Need more Shielding. So much shielding.

Also have a lvl 30 Pal/Mnk/Enc I have been enjoying. About 200 AAs, and most frogs in guk die as I target them, or even before.

Did anyone else just play EQ and chill in it a lot without always accomplishing things? I got to max level on two characters but I never did a ton of raids. I honestly got more satisfaction out of helping other players more. I remember going to starting areas with my 65 druid and just buffing lower level characters and it brought a smile on my face to see them get happy about leveling up so much faster without having to spend time resting.

Since games have gotten easier I feel like the communities are worse as a result. No longer do players need to team up. Most players today log in and do dailies then log out. EQ was the only online game I've played where I didn't encounter a ton of trolls. Well there's trolls.... but you know what i mean lol

Hit 56, got my Sleepers key, and started grinding some aa's (DN is laughable) and have 3/4 of the velious dragons killed to unlock Luclin ( only Dozekar left but too tired to finish, lol.)

Went to clear the Luclin raid mobs and finally sh up the flags. Noticble jump in health and damage out put from the Velious Dragons. Was making my way through the mobs and save the Temple of Ssraeshza for last since there were two raid mobs in the same zone. Zone is a huge in nightmare to navigate, but made my way to Xerkizh the Creator and he was a huge damage sponge.

Fought down and finally made it to Emperor Ssraeshza, to find I need a special key. Look it up and see I had almost all of the items to combine, with the last one for cheap on the bazaar. Port over and make the ring, take on the boss and go in for the fight and I can't hit him. Pets are doing damage but it's slow going and wasn't at full mana at the start of the fight and wasn't going to make it with how much I had to heal the pets. Read up and see I need bane weapons, and see they're super expensive on the market. Decide to better plan buffs with the pets and focus on a long battle. Take him down after like 15 minutes, get the flag and head back. Realized I forgot to hail the memory after the creator guy. Zoned back into my expedition and even though the enemies were still gone, the memory was gone. Thankfully he was the easier of the two and will have to take him out again.

Went and fought Doze and died at 1%, just ran out of gas since he resists almost everything at 56.
I went crazy in DN and did like 2k AA, but I did Doze at like 1200 at 56. But since my main damage is white, it was pretty simple. I actually didn't pay attention to the flag requirements and went and did the north temple first and killed Vulak, who was quite a bit tougher, so Doze was pretty easy. I was able to do sleeper at 56 as well, but even at 65 now thaat dude resists everything. Something that helps is there is a Shm AA that gives your dots a chance to apply a slow, that is irresistable, even to mobs immune to it.

I had the same problem with Emp. All my damage was procs, like one spell I could get to stick at 59 (60 apparently made it easier). Was just really boring, and took forever. Luclin was infamous so mobs hp skyrocketing. I did Vex Thal later, and holy hell I forgot how much they sponge.

So far the first 2 teirs of PoP are not more difficult than Luclin flags, some of the requirements for the fights are a pita though.

I went and did him again and slaughtered him easily, unlocked Luclin but DN is too lucrative for AA farming to not abuse it for as long as you can stomach. I'm closing in on 400, but if the goos respawned faster I'd probably have 1000 already, lol

Have you tried the rat tunnels farther in? I don't have ae damage, so the goo's worked great for me, but most seem to use the rats for swarm or ae murdering since there are a lot more.

Definitely get all your major aa done there, there isn't another soot that good in the game, and not even really good at all until the elemental planes.

I clear through the goos then run through the rat tunnels pulling a massive train then succor and repeat. The traps are really annoying cause they make the pets bug out, my necropotence train of pets always end up running back to a trap to attack it after killing anything.

Finished up the PoP flags, but staying at 56 to grind away at AA. Moved away from DN because the loot is garbage and use Umbral Planes as my primary. Moved up from 1/4 zone to 1/2 zone pulls and still making good AA exp and buying upgrades in the bazaar with plat from yard trash loot. Probably spend as much time looting corpses as I do burning down the mobs. I think when I hit 1000 AA will turn exp back on and start moving through the planes tiers.

Im closing in on 600 AA's, finished up all the pet, defensive, and must have's, now just topping off a few more in DN then I'll go shred the SoL bosses. I went to UP for a bit before I had the defensive AA's and while I could survive easily going steady and it was far more lucrative, the xp was crap compared to DN and the mobs have way more life for being (mostly) white-yellow.

With all the upgrades I can probably be a lot more aggressive now though, so should be fun

Yeah, I can see UP being slower than DN for different make ups. BRD rune songs and BST Bloodlust is key for my AoE smashing. Cluster half the zone and rune songs can mitigate the mob damage, then pop Bloodlust with Fayeguard Bladecatchers AoE proc melts down the group. Whatever is left standing I'll hit with a couple of cats of Desperate Dirge to finish up the swarm.

Same technique works in DN and the mobs definitely go down faster for higher level cons, but it's hard to pass up the selling the vendor loot while I'm still gearing up. Especially since I don't have a bazaar toon to sell decent loot. I'm just about done upgrading the last of my gear slots, minus augs, so may move back to DN for the faster exp gain soon.

My gear is pretty solid, full legendary PoT gear and my pets are using legendary PoT weapons as well. Last things I really need are to work on my augs and the really expensive aoe gear (like coral hilted tulwars).

I've streamlined my train pulls in DN with a timer and after getting a lot more aggressive due to maxed defensive AA's, PP 15 and better gear I am getting (roughly) 2 AA's a minute and its pretty much repeatable indefinitely. Necropotence and PB AoE are absolutely busted. I stopped looting because it takes way too long and you fill up quickly with 3-5 plat nonsense (and the goos drop a unstackable regen consumable that is worthless and extremely common)

Tomorrow I'll probably try pulling most of UP to rake in some money, I made more there in my brief visit of like an hour than I make farming DN for several hours.
