I LOVED Dark Age! Albion Friar ftw lol.

Those servers still around by any chance!?

Yes I used to play a friar too as a main ! The official servers are still running but everyone or mostly now play on private servers , the most popular one is the eden shard ! Made by DAOC enthusiasts. https://eden-daoc.net/

I'm glad to see fans are reviving it, or have already.

The original post is 10 years old, is it still up and running?

This reminded me of Star Wars Galaxies being revived. It's a shame what happened to it, but at its peak it was incredible. That was my Everquest/WOW.

I had a rancor as a pet called Frank the Tank, the adventures we had!

I had been loosely following a fan restoration project for years and it looks like it's ready to go finally.

Started reading up on a new emulator server called EverQuest The Heroes Journey.

Essentially a rebalanced game were content is intended to be solo'd and players select 3 classes to merge. Lots of cool stuff like account progression, increased spawn times, tiered loot. One of the that sounded OP as fuck is pet spells effect all pets, so you could roll a Nec/Mag/Bst and have all 3 pets out with perma buffs and heals.

Haven't played in years, but my fondest gaming memories are from EQ. Thinking about jumping in After finishing up Clair Obscura.

Finished up Clair Obscur and fired up The Heros Journey on the EQemu server, getting hot with the nostalgia bat.

Haven't played in ages so it's like trying to learn a new game. Settled in for my combo class as a BRD/NEC/BST. The combo classes are definitely cool, and the pet sachels are a nice touch to load my necro sachels with gear that is bound to the sachels instead of the pet.

Can tell I'm in for a few hundred hours on this one.

You should check out The Hero's Journey. It's a progression server so you have to unlock the content. I there are a few starter zones open on Kunark/Luclin for the Iksar and Vah Shir, but just the starter zones. You have to progress through classic and kill Nag/Vox to open Kunark, then kill Trak and some other stuff to unlock Velious.

Having the 3 combo character has been a blast so far. Because you have 3 classes worth of spells, buffs never wear off and bard songs stay active as long as they are in the spell bar. So throw on the buffs, then swap out for your battle spell bar. Even short term buffs like Vampiric Embrace that lasts for 90 sex seems to be a set and forget. Actually having a bit of a hard time trying to manage that many spells. Only been playing this weekend so need to read up on some helpful macros for loading the spell bar to swap out pets/buffs/battle stuff.

Have kicked around starting p99 over the years, but my play is so sporadic that it's hard to find regular groups. Having all the content balanced for solo is a real treat to play at my own pace.

I have THJ installed, but I have not started it yet. Thinking of doing SHD/SHM/BER

Is it just the regular game with us being crazy strong, or did they add stuff as well?

I haven't played seriously in decades so it's hard to know what may have been added after I quit, which was around planes of power.

You can level up equipment by putting it in a power slot and upgrade it to a higher tier up to legendary. It eats up your exp gain and level the item. Not sure if that's new.

Reworked teleporting. There are small rune stones you can attune so that once you've been there, you can use the bazaar map to teleport back.

They added some neat stuff to dungeons. Most of the map is contested, but when you go into a dungeon it's shared, but there is an NPC at the entrance that you can go into a respawning or no respawn instance. So you can farm loot without people smashing the same area, or if you're working to a major boss or dragon the mobs won't respawn.

I'm sure there is other stuff, but it's been so long.

So I played EQ all the way through House of Thule expansion (number 17) before I finally moved on. I was 3 boxing at the time, and was just tired. So I did not expect to feel much coming to try THJ.

I was wrong. Addicted again immediately. Just finished Crushbone Keep, brought back a lot of memories. No idea if I will make it all the way to Planes of Power, but I can see way too much time spent here.

made this video using obs from other guilds.

guy trains our raid for most bone-headed reason; dragging his corpse through ToV on a stable vulak engage.

added some music and editing for spice. good for a chuckle.

Love me some Eq

3 combo class EQ sounds absolutely sick...

Necro/Sham/Dru, Dot Kiting with buffed spectre/wolf/charmed animal + mega mana regen via Canni/Lich and life regen via Torpor/Quiesence, plus travel spells.

The hardest part is managing all of the spells from 3 characters in one spell bar. I think it's fully unlocked at 12 gems, not sure if it can be boosted last that.

For buffs it's easy, since buffs are permanent once applied. So just load a few spell sets for buffing and they last until you die/log. Beneficial bard songs stay active as long as they are in your spell bar, so no more twisting.

Played a bard/ranger back in the day and never got into the caster classes so not familiar with their line of spells. Playing a BRD/MAG/BST, and trying to decide which spells should be in my battle spell line up has been tough trying to narrow down to the most useful. As a single character it was easy to focus, trying to pick the 3~4 most useful from each class is a balancing act.

The Pet Satchels are fucking awesome for pet classes. You start with a 4 slot satchel that works like the pet inventory. Just throw some weapons and armor in there and they are always equipped on the pet and only have to worry about it if you swap out gear. I found a crazy Paladin only 2H pierce weapon that was dirt cheap, I'm guessing since there aren't a ton of paladins running around. Bought 1 for each of my two pets and for like 100pp total. Just hit 50 last night and the pets just run around crushing everything in their path. I'm at the level cap for classic, so need to grind out some AA's to take down Nag/Vox before I can move on to Kunark and open up the level cap. It's been a blast though.

I'm in the mid 30s now, and grinding some AA in SolB. Sympathetic strike is good stuff. Just took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure out you have to activate it

SHM/SK pets suck overall, but with bazaarweapons, they are still good. I like you can keep the pet bags in the bank and they still work.

The discoverable portal rings are great too, as I have a problem with over pulling.

Oh damn, didn't realize they worked in the bank, didn't even think about trying that. Just had them taking up inventory space.

As much fun as Im having with my current character, I'm itching to try a ton of different builds. Sounds kind of boring, but I'm itching to put the holy Trinity of WAR/CLR/ENC together.

Probably the last post I'll make in this thread unless anyone starts posting in here so I'm not the only one posting on a 25 year old MMO.

Took down Nagafen and Vox to complete the classic flags and unlock Kunark. Things I read were to attempt at roughly 150 AA. My pets felt pretty tanky and attempted it with 9 AA and maxed out Companion Duribility. Nagy killed me once and adjusted some of my bard songs and smoked him on the second try. Had to gate once on Vox when I pulled the entire room and pulled like 6 giants along with the dragon. Came back and hugged the entrance and was able to pull the giants without Vox. Burned them down and Vox went down with little issue.

Going to get to 51 and stay capped and grind AA for a bit now. Get my 51 mage earth pet and can keep trying Vox to get the dragon scales for my bard epic. Went into Old Sebilis to dipy toes into Kunark and handled them pretty easily. So will definitely bounce between there and Karnors Tower to find the best exp gain and vendor trash loot to build back up some next egg.

So exactly what I worried about happening happened. I got full on addicted. My guy is level 60 with around 2000 AAs. Just finished unlocking Planes of Power.

I don't know if you ever played Legacy of Ykesha, but those zones got added in with the Kunark unlock. 50/51 and Crypt of Nadox should be really good AAxp. Plus there is a zonewide Aug that drops that is pretty nice.

I would strongly suggest not levelling past 56. You can beat the Kunark dragons pretty easily there with like 300aas. Then you go to the Dragon Necropolis in Velious, and you can grind insane AAs. I was getting like 60-80 an hour, and people with kiting and ae abilities can double that easily. I went a bit overboard, but was able to kill Sleeper at 56.

Finished Luclin today, and so far the only boss I have trouble with was Emperor. I forgot you need a bane weapon to hurt him, so the fight took like 20 minutes of procs to kill him. Hadn't hit 60, so he resisted everything.

Really taking a lot of willpower to not play this, EQ is probably one of my favorite games of all time and I know the hooks will get set deep
